i have a det tigers, la dodgers, an OLD yankees that's into replacement stages of distress, a BK dodgers, a Reading Phillies which I rarely wear bcuz it's not fitted and... that's it> was thinking of getting a brewers hat with the old mitt logo...

Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 03:20 (sixteen years ago) link

i did not wear a hat to the yankees/red sox game tonight.

i can't find my black mets hat, still. i wonder wtf happened to it? in the meantime, i have a grey pinstripey one. it's okay, but not great.

i am now wearing the goodyear hat from upthread.

http://www.capitate.co.uk/MLB%20Caps/baseball_caps_reds.jpg

is what i wear.

Also, holy shit: Negro League Caps. These team names, jesus! I had no idea. Black Crackers? Clowns?

If I could only find pics of some of my old hats... I admit, for a while I had a Yanks fullback, but it's long-dead on the floor of my parent's basement, I think. I also had this amazing Charlotte Hornets tricolor "graffiti' type hat that looked NOTHING like graffiti so much as just poor writing. I had an early-90s Jays cap for a while, too. Nothing else springs to mind.

Will M., Tuesday, 22 May 2007 13:49 (sixteen years ago) link

yeah, i'm still all about the cotton "franchise caps." primaries are 60s and 70s o's "fun bird" caps, but i also really like the clemente era pirates cap and the early 70s bravos cap.

I used to always wear a black Jays new era w/ gold old-school logo, but it was stolen. so this is my default along with the black mets hat first posted

francisF, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 15:32 (sixteen years ago) link

I have one official Tigers road hat, which I stole from my friend Tim.
One each of the Tigers and Red Sox franchise caps (I don't like these anymore)
One Chicago Cubs hat that I wore as a kid, which is twill with an adjustable strap (these are my favorite hats and noone makes them anymore, right?)

mizzell, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 18:31 (sixteen years ago) link

Are the A's wearing this hat this year? I haven't seen them play. It's pretty badass

Henry Aaron played for the Indianapolis Clowns. Back in the '40s, they would do Globetrotters-type shtick as well as play competitive games.

I wonder if that store on Haight has some new vintage caps / tees in? I thought twice about buying their stuff w/ this logo:

Belisarius, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 23:43 (sixteen years ago) link

I kinda collect MLB caps. Which I suppose is slightly odd since I'm from Scotland...

I have these fitted caps:
Pirates (Black)
Pirates (Gold 70's style)
A's (Green)
Orioles (Black with orange O logo)
Mets (Black)
Nationals (Blue)

and these adjustable ones:
Cardinals (Red)
Red Sox (Blue)
Reds (Red)
Reds (White with red pinstripe)
Pirates (Black)
Mets (Black)

You can see a few of them in this pic here

treefell, Thursday, 24 May 2007 13:38 (sixteen years ago) link

I should say that the fitted ones are left on display and the adjustable ones only get worn when I'm working in the garden.
I'm old enough to feel weird wearing a baseball cap when I'm walking around town.

treefell, Thursday, 24 May 2007 13:40 (sixteen years ago) link

perhaps I will buy Homestead Grays cap on Haight next week.

Dr Morbius, Thursday, 24 May 2007 14:27 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm wearing this one today

zaxxon25, Friday, 25 May 2007 11:42 (sixteen years ago) link

Zaxxon, that is a nice cap.

treefell, I'm in my early 20s and I feel weird wearing a baseball cap. It always seems way too "dude" for me. I do it anyway, though, because I leave home AND leave work at just about the right times every day to get an eye-load of sun, and I have very thick glasses so sunglasses are out of the question. And it'd be even weirder to zinc up under my eyes.

When I was buying my Reds cap, the woman at the cash went to move the sticker and said "oh, wait, do you plan to wear the sticker?" (I don't know why she asked or felt moved to move it). I replied, "No." and she said something to the effect of "good, because that's lame." My response: "It's like, it's new, we get it." Then she laughed way too hard and I felt like a comic king for about an hour. That's customer service.

Will M., Tuesday, 29 May 2007 14:13 (sixteen years ago) link

I like your story, Will.

I have:

* a Knoxville Smokies cap
* a classic Boston cap
* a red Nationals cap with the interlocking "DC" (NOT the "W" cap - urgh!!) - this is really a beautiful cap. there are gold highlights on the letters.

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 16:05 (sixteen years ago) link

LA Dodgers (but don't wear, not that there's anything wrong w/ that)
CNN
NASA
Cowgirl Creamery

where is a serious hatter that aims low profile style for small heads? i've tried at least one of the MLB Franchise lines (adjustable kind) and hat comes down to ears and/or eyes.

gabbneb, Thursday, 31 May 2007 22:44 (sixteen years ago) link

lol @ small head

hstencil, Friday, 1 June 2007 08:05 (sixteen years ago) link

Today I'm wearing this though it has a white back instead of a navy one ... guess they don't manufacture the style anymore.

http://www.twinsenterprise.com/New/TwinsEnterprise10/images/Images/RedSox06/B-FRM02GWFNY.jpg

The stores outside of Fenway have an immense selection of Sox caps.

zaxxon25, Friday, 1 June 2007 15:30 (sixteen years ago) link

i have the same mfr but it's not a fitted hat, and the back is a little too big/angle between bill and head part insufficiently acute

gabbneb, Friday, 1 June 2007 16:30 (sixteen years ago) link

i haz portland beavers cap
http://mlb.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pMLB2-2000673reg.jpg
and this weird clown-striped brewers cap that has 1989 stitched on it but there's no way anyone ever wore that, I can't even find a picture online.

also, I have a beisbol cap for the mexican futbol team 'toluca' that steals the duke logo (they are the 'diablos rojos') and has flames on the bill, and a few kickin' blazers' caps. mostly though, I wear the brewers and the bevos caps

Dimension 5ive, Friday, 1 June 2007 17:21 (sixteen years ago) link

Tracer, I'm glad you liked my story, I thought it would be boring as hell and not make sense. Is this the hat you have?

now that my hair is short (and i'm going to try really hard to keep it that way) i think it might be time to buy a hat. thinkin about the classic red/white/blue expos and wishing i knew my hat size.

All the good authorized (wool, fitted) caps I've ever gotten have shrunk up too tight to wear after a couple of heavy sweats.

this is pretty much the only hat I sport these days, and only when I go to games

Further, I bought a Milwaukee Braves hat w/ the big white "M" in the middle, and it is good. I still can't bring myself to get a NY Giants. Kinda want an Expos too, but I worry about the white crown getting grody in a hurry

i wager 75% of males in the area have this hat. mine is very crooked and worn.

200 workers shouldn’t have to lose their jobs to move production to a non-union facility or overseas.

Bottom Line: @MLB caps should be made by union labor in Western New York, USA. https://t.co/1QyZp2TYkp
