alt-tab!

and I don't know!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 22 January 2004 23:12 (twenty years ago) link

I haven't read aldaily in forever! that actually used to be my home page, until they got all snide and conservative

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 22 January 2004 23:12 (twenty years ago) link

It's bouncing because it wants your attention.

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 22 January 2004 23:23 (twenty years ago) link

Alt tab does nothing for me. Oops, ichats bouncing, gotta go.

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 22 January 2004 23:29 (twenty years ago) link

Not "alt", "cmd". The little thing with the apple next to the space bar. It switches between apps.

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 22 January 2004 23:30 (twenty years ago) link

And it does this rather stylishly if you're in Panther!

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 22 January 2004 23:30 (twenty years ago) link

I am in Jaguar. Yes, apple tab is working; thanks!

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 22 January 2004 23:40 (twenty years ago) link

oh yeah, I guess I haven't completely left my pc days behind me (alt is in the same place as command!)

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 22 January 2004 23:41 (twenty years ago) link

Ooh, I forgot; I like Show Desktop (instant hide all that sits in the menu bar) and also Lite Switch for apple-tab switching betwqeen apps. Yeah, it's a pc inspired app, but it looks so good under OS X...

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 23 January 2004 00:53 (twenty years ago) link

Er... but it's a Mozilla engine, isn't it?

Actually it's Konqueror.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Friday, 23 January 2004 01:16 (twenty years ago) link

*checks* He's right, you know.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 23 January 2004 01:31 (twenty years ago) link

What's the best way to 'publish' an iTunes playlist? Exporting as text looks terrible, .xml doesn't work for some reason (when I open the file in IE, it's just XML code), and I think iTunes Publisher is shareware.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Friday, 23 January 2004 01:42 (twenty years ago) link

yeah, how do you do that?

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 23 January 2004 01:46 (twenty years ago) link

I'm in Safari, it went to this loud Web page, I just want to turn down the volume, but where is it?

Mary (Mary), Friday, 23 January 2004 10:45 (twenty years ago) link

It's not in your menu bar? On my iBook it's also F4 and F5 keys for quieter and louder. There should also be a setting in your System Preferences.

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 23 January 2004 17:05 (twenty years ago) link

Ah fek all that, I play boxikon. I rool!

Thank you Chris.

iTunes Publisher is freeware, as far as I can recall. I've never had any nags with it, anyway.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 22:58 (nineteen years ago) link

PSI is a good jabber client with msn and aim transport.

Haven't really added or subtracted any apps since I last posted. New things I really like are:

Gmail Status: a menu bar app that tells you if you have any unread Gmail email.

SolarSeek: slsk client that doesn't depend on X11 or any weird ports. Still in early development stage but works pretty well

xAct: converts .flac, .shn, etc. audio files to plain ole .aiff

Wiretap: records streaming audio (or anything coming through the speakers) to .aiff. I use it for recording RealPlayer streams.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 08:01 (nineteen years ago) link

that gmail status sounds very useful!! and what is the deal with this solarseek

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 13:15 (nineteen years ago) link

wiretap looks handy

Solarseek seems to require 10.3, so it's no good to me.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 16:22 (nineteen years ago) link

Bugger - so does the self-contained Nicotine bundle recommended elsewhere.

I'm not paying all that money for Panther. I was planning to wait for Sabre-Toothed Tiger or something.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 16:28 (nineteen years ago) link

how do I get a soulseek username / pass to use w. solarseek?

cºzen (Cozen), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 19:31 (nineteen years ago) link

I thought you were 10.2 too?

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 19:32 (nineteen years ago) link

ok I get it.

no, 10.3 :P

I can copy it for you?

cºzen (Cozen), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 19:32 (nineteen years ago) link

wow exciting.

cºzen (Cozen), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 19:33 (nineteen years ago) link

Oh, I don't hold with that.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 19:34 (nineteen years ago) link

is there any way to make an application that normally runs in the dock -- stickies for example -- not show in the dock when running?

no. but why would you want to anyway?

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 21:15 (nineteen years ago) link

so my dockspace doesn't get filled with something i don't need to ever access via the dock -- ideally i'd like it as one of those little icons in the upper right

OTM. Stickies is a pain for exactly that reason.

dean? (deangulberry), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 21:39 (nineteen years ago) link

what is the point of stickies? how do you use it efficiently?

cºzen (Cozen), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 21:41 (nineteen years ago) link

It serves the same purpose as physical post-it notes, except they sit on your desktop.

dean? (deangulberry), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 21:42 (nineteen years ago) link

why not just use text files?

cºzen (Cozen), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 21:42 (nineteen years ago) link

I only use Post-it notes to doodle on - are Stickies good for that?

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 21:43 (nineteen years ago) link

put real post its on the border of yr monitor

You can get Soulseek to work for 10.2 using Fink but it's a pain in the ass.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 21:51 (nineteen years ago) link

Yeah - I can't be bothered with it. AcqLite works pretty well for me anyway.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 22:15 (nineteen years ago) link

Maybe that's my favourite hoonja-doonja, if it counts.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 22:16 (nineteen years ago) link

Anyone figure out a good way of spying on who is using yr itunes share? I saw RendezWho but I don't have Konfabulator installed -- waiting for Dashboard.
