I'm not totally sure about MUBI's rotation policy tbh, but they obv don't stream as many as n*****x and stuff does disappear every so often

mubi recently changed how it works, before it was 30 films, one gets removed and another added each day, to them having a library section, which seems to be stuff that is available permanently (or as permanently as anything on a streaming service is) and then the 'film of the day' section which has the 30 films like before (some of which go into the library, some don't)

i would highly recommend 'about some meaningless events' which was added to their library recently and is a genuine 10/10 stone cold masterpiece

I just watched Swimming Pool, reviewed upthread.

Really impressed by Charlotte Rampling's performance as an uptight English person. She really captures the atmosphere and mannerisms of being an uptight rigid person, whilst hating yourself for being so, and the increasing envy of people who are freeing and obviously enjoying themselves more. The general atmosphere of heat and time slowing down in the country were also captured really well and seem very exotic from my current viewpoint.

Have resolved to make more of MUBI. Any more recommendations welcome...

Can strongly recommend Shiva Baby which has just appeared. Great debut film.

The MUBI Podcast is very good - all about films that are huge in a specific country but mostly obscure outside it. Usually also made in that country but not always - there's one about a Mexican melodrama that flopped there but became a huge seller in the Soviet Union!

Irritatingly none of those are available here.

that was decent yeah, even though I didn't feel in the mood for Cumberbatch in that type of role, but he does ok.

Very much of a piece with her crime TV work imo.

Had a grand old time having two bros behind me at the cinema chuckling at every instance of homophobic bullying in it.

I was thinking something similar to calzino. Do I actually need to see him in this role? Maybe not. But I’m fine with it. The most interesting performance by far was the boy. Oh and don’t blink or you’ll miss Keith Carradine.

MUBI GO is a cheat, cheat, cheat. Instead of the Romanian film they promised it is still the Jane Campion, so not a new film every week. BTW, the JC film is based on a book but not the book of the same title a lot of ILX0Rs like.

I kind of am curious about the novel The Power of the Dog. I assume much stuff that is cryptic or murky in the movie is made more explicit, although Wikipedia has a summary with some spoilers that seems to indicate some different action from the film.

One thing: seems to me they used to give advance notice which films were coming in a series but now they are often more cagey, so Pierrot le fou but then what.

Thought about going to see The Hand of God yesterday but didn't. Maybe next week.

Went today. Not sure how I feel about it.

I saw it this weekend, and was rather annoyed. But I knew going in it was another specimen of film industry navel-gazing.

Enjoyed this week’s selection.

Featuring a real virtuoso performance and not just scenery-chewing like three weeks ago.

But I somehow managed to avoid Léa Seydoux up until now so maybe I am easily impressed.
