i remember thinking she was great in Haywire.

Today I learned (rumor has it?) she was actually largely dubbed by Laura San Giacomo!

"How could Gina Carano be so dumb as to throw away a potential massive acting career with her crazy social media opinions?" Well, it's less dumb when you realize she's an heiress to a massive family fortune spanning dozens of companies and billions of $$$: https://t.co/9nolxyr6aV

it's not just an american thing of course but it feels especially american to do dumb shit simply because there are no repercussions for your actions.

Well there were repercussions, and I don’t think she realizes or accepts it’s dumb shit (which is the problem).

...Unless it was a “suicide by cop” move, and she already had this set up

22k signatures Vs the most popular show on Disney isn't going to make a dent.

Have been watching a lot of Clone Wars and Rebels with my son recently and wondering if the "can't take my helmet off" thing is unique to this show? As there's lots of Mandalorian themed episodes (especially in Rebels) and no-one seems to have any qualms about removing their helmets.

Think it's remarked upon in The Mandalorian when he first meets Bo Katan and clan along the lines of "oh, he's one of those" but was wondering if it's come up anywhere before in the SW universe?

groovypanda, Monday, 22 February 2021 12:01 (three years ago) link

yeah just saw the Rebels with the trip to Mandalore and wondered what was going on.

Stevolende, Monday, 22 February 2021 12:35 (three years ago) link

The Way of the Mandalore “was first laid out in the 2019 live-action television series The Mandalorian.”

stuck in the version layer (morrisp), Monday, 22 February 2021 13:09 (three years ago) link

I finally finished the Mandalorian this weekend and I'm not sorry to see her go. Hardly anyone on this show can act (or, they are asked to act in a way that seems like they cannot) but she was particularly awful.

akm, Monday, 22 February 2021 16:02 (three years ago) link

I didn't really object to the acting on this show until Bill Burr* came back and basically ran circles around the rest of the cast, at which point I started asking myself "am I really this enthralled by watching Hollywood people impersonate action figures"

* I liked Rosario Dawson as well but... I always like Rosario Dawson, her entire role could have been her farting on a light sabre and I would have been all "wow what nuance to those toots"

my thoughts exactly

if she farted on a light saber I'm pretty sure that would have brought imbalance to the force, and possibly also a cauterized asshole

I liked Carano's character, and I thought she had the right kind of "bad acting" for this show, but I probably wouldn't have followed her to the new Space Rangers (or whatever) series even if she were the coolest person in the world.

stuck in the version layer (morrisp), Monday, 22 February 2021 17:12 (three years ago) link

when you're lauding Bill Burr as the best thespian in your cast, that's not a great sign for the strength of your ensemble. good thing i didn't come here for the acting; tbh I'd be okay with them bulk recasting everyone every year.

The Mandalorian finds Ahsoka outside the town farting on her light sabre and presents the child to her.

I get that point, but honestly I'm having a really hard time imagining the Star Wars fan that would be excited to sit through two seasons of The Mandalorian and be stoked for season 3, but absolutely refused to watch Book of Boba Fett. Cannot be persuaded that those people exist, even as bad as most of BoBF was.

Maxmillion D. Boosted (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 17 January 2023 22:28 (one year ago) link

I do like the idea of Mandalorian purists, given, well, Mandalorians (or at least a certain number of them).

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 17 January 2023 22:32 (one year ago) link

I ditched Boba Fett after Ep. 3, but will prob check out Mando S3...

Vexatious litigant (morrisp), Tuesday, 17 January 2023 22:50 (one year ago) link

I think eps 4/5/6 are Mando season 2.5. They’re merely bad, while the rest of the show is absolutely dire, on a scale I can’t really comprehend.

assert (matttkkkk), Tuesday, 17 January 2023 22:52 (one year ago) link

Book of Boba Fett was an "ok" show with an absolutely weird-ass take on Boba Fett as a character. Not Morrison's fault, he was just playing this weird version of BF. This is a solid example of a producing team "not getting it." The only explanation for me is Mandalorian stole a lot of what made Fett mysterious for their own main dude, and they couldn't have two shows going around with basically the same character. Which to me means they should have probably just not made this show and if anything kept Fett as a cameo character.

Fett surviving the Sarlacc isn't as bad as the Emperor surviving being incinerated in a pit + Death Star 2 vaporizing, but it's not great stuff. Having a sidestep leading into Mandalorian S3 is a bizarre choice, even if those episodes were a marked improvement. Most of the time spent watching the non-Mando eps was me just wondering how Ming-Na Wen is 60 yrs old.

Though i'm also not one of those who thinks Mando is grade-A, it's pretty good and fun but it's not great. I think Andor is clearly the cream of the Disney+ SW crop, just across the board a superior sci-fi program.

omar little, Tuesday, 17 January 2023 23:06 (one year ago) link

fett surviving the sarlacc is one of the few things they kept from the original expanded universe! (the emperor did return in a comic i think, but i never read that one)
