TRUMP GOT COVID

The fact that he was able to pursue a fairly demanding campaign schedule in late October strongly suggests the experimental therapies he received were obviously effective. Sure, Trump's death would have been more satisfactory, but I guess I should look at the bigger picture and settle for this silver lining, that if Trump was saved from death or debility, it's possible some far more worthy humans may greatly benefit from similar therapies in the future.

much better outcome to see him defeated in an election than die in office imo

still not sure I like the long term effects of Jan 6th, even if some of those long-term symptoms would be there with or without that event.

that and the two month long stop the steal campaign

yeah I openly wished Covid would claim him, but I feel like him getting defeated and thoroughly disgraced with several major criminal charges hanging over his head is a lot better than him becoming a martyr

frogbs, Thursday, 11 February 2021 22:45 (three years ago) link

hmm, I guess it's tough to do the tradeoffs, but I feel like there was some importance to him being rebuked by voters rather than just dying. Although I can certainly see some benefit to the stop the steal campaign never having happened.

in the next couple of decades the republican party will spend amazing amounts of energy on his rehabilitation, attempting to move the needle from 'thoroughly disgraced' to 'tragically flawed'. there's a good chance they will pull it off, too.

A good chance they'll pull it off? That's a clickbait story at any liberal publication, it's near inevitable.

hm maybe I prefer that to My Antonia come to think of it

Death by COVID was the only thing that wld have prevented his martyrdom. He is already a martyr.

It is an open question in my mind whether a human whose character is 100% composed of flaws can correctly be described as flawed, since flaws are normally identified and defined by the more perfect condition of their surrounding medium.

We all knew he had it bad. I’m pissed off by this revive of that moment & the reminder that we could have been spared the whole lame duck period & subsequent insurrection if he had just done the reasonable thing & kicked it.

Remembering that period, when COVID in the US was taking off like a rocket & all anyone was talking about was “The severity of the pandemic is Trump’s fault and WHY won’t he & the cons just wear a damn mask” & when he got the Vid it was like THIS IS WHAT YOU SOWED, NOW REAP
and the disappointment when he did not in fact reap, which took the wind out of the anti-Trump momentum — just a bit, but enough to notice.

Fuck you, Donald Trump.

Since this is the active Trump thread rn:

One America News aired this "tribute" to Donald Trump, featuring solemn piano music and a poem by Rudyard Kipling. This is not from an opinion show; it's from a news hour. pic.twitter.com/YmCKGHmnVq

It's a big race to that bottom, but Huckabee might just have claimed the title for "Most Pathetic Trump Toady"...

yes but we're only 20 days out of office and he a) is still too busy pissing his pants to appear in public and b) might yet face tens or hundreds of years in prison. chin up!

I read that that "Free" Huckabee Kids Guide to Trumpism actually requires automatic payments from a credit card, so all in all, a pretty apt way to pass your legacy as sheep for right-wing fleecing on to your children.

idk what Kipling poem they used (I have a guess but I'm not going to click on it), but I'm guessing it wasn't this one:

I could not dig: I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
Mine angry and defrauded young?

(More appropriate to G.W. Bush, tbf, because Trump has no problem robbing.)

The stupidest thing about that If/Trump video is that it was billed as a "tribute to his accomplishments", but the video clips just showed him walking around in various places, waving vaguely at either people or trees or walls - it wasn't always easy to tell -, with zero hint of any accomplishments of any kind. They didn't even show his big beautiful border wall. Apparently his great accomplishment consisted of walking and waving without tripping over his feet.

the thing that really made my heart sink was after Trump got Covid a whole host of cable/late night hosts from Chris Hayes to Stephen Colbert to basically everyone on CNN said something to the effect of "we wish him and Melania a speedy recovery"

maybe it was just for appearances and to not play into the "evil liberals want Trump to DIE!" narrative but it still was sickening. the man is singlehandedly responsible for getting a quarter million people killed. he's made life worse for pretty much everyone on the planet. you spend every night telling your audience what a soulless monster he is. if there was ever a person who deserved a long, painful covid death, it's him.
