bravo once again Bee OK for keeping up the list!

please mark Billy Joel unclaimed next time around --- i'm definitely satisfied with having run the career-spanning listening thread. i would say just take it off the list, but if someone else wants to do it, they totally should!

Where's Stevie D, can we bump Aphex up?

octobeard, Wednesday, 10 February 2021 04:29 (three years ago) link

since the Metal poll is never going to close, anyone ready to go for the next one? i really think MF Doom should go next but open to anything at this point.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 24 February 2021 03:36 (three years ago) link

or maybe we should do Daft Punk but someone will need to volunteer for that one.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 24 February 2021 17:30 (three years ago) link

^^ force it onto DJP imo

A Scampo Darkly (Le Bateau Ivre), Wednesday, 24 February 2021 18:10 (three years ago) link

Have we not done Rundgren? I’m still scared of running a poll but could maybe be convinced.

Naive Teen Idol, Saturday, 27 February 2021 06:34 (three years ago) link

do it! they are really fun to run especially if you're a huge fan of said artist. i will say it's a lot of work but the rewards are worth it.

Bee OK, Sunday, 28 February 2021 00:29 (three years ago) link

I'll vote in that one for sure.

clemenza, Sunday, 28 February 2021 00:36 (three years ago) link

I'll also vote, especially if we have a sub-poll for "Favourite New Cars song".

Halfway there but for you, Sunday, 28 February 2021 00:48 (three years ago) link

Ok I’m game. Do I have to wait in a queue? How we do decide these things?

Naive Teen Idol, Sunday, 28 February 2021 03:44 (three years ago) link

if you want to do it now you probably just can since no one else has volunteered to run one right now yet

The Ballot Of Todd Rundgren

"what are you DOING to fleetwood mac??" (C. Grisso/McCain), Sunday, 28 February 2021 05:48 (three years ago) link

Fuck, I think that's gotta be it.

Ok, I'll put this up tonight. Pray for me (or at least tell me how to run one of these things).

Naive Teen Idol, Sunday, 28 February 2021 06:18 (three years ago) link

2021 has started:
The Ballot of TODD RUNDGREN: ILM ARTIST POLL #107 Nominations Thread

Bee OK, Sunday, 28 February 2021 18:21 (three years ago) link

sorry i lost track here about getting the MF DOOM started. When would be a good time? April 1?

maf you one two (maffew12), Tuesday, 2 March 2021 10:56 (three years ago) link

the rundgren poll looks like it'll be done in about 3 weeks so as soon as it's done would be fine

ufo, Tuesday, 2 March 2021 11:28 (three years ago) link

ok sure I'll keep an eye on its schedule

maf you one two (maffew12), Tuesday, 2 March 2021 12:00 (three years ago) link

two weeks pass...

Wonder what would be the interest in a Loudon Wainwright III poll, apart from myself and NTI. I could try to run it (first time will be the charm), might not be able to do it until the summer.

The Ballad of Mel Cooley (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 19 March 2021 20:17 (three years ago) link

I would follow results, would like to get into him. But wouldn’t be able to vote.

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Saturday, 20 March 2021 14:15 (three years ago) link

Voting just closed for the Todd Rundgren poll. What are best practices for rolling out the results? I have most of the ballots tabulated already, but will have to prep the results.

Foe instance, are there better days to roll them out (ie, weekdays versus weekends)? And how quickly? I know that I tend to like slower results with more time for people to weigh in and comment. But I also don’t want to drag things out or slow down other polls.

Thx in advance for suggestions.

Naive Teen Idol, Monday, 22 March 2021 22:38 (three years ago) link

However the pollrunner feels like or has time to roll them out imo, it's a feature not a bug that people run things differently.

(I always try to have my text and links and images ready at least a day at a time, and when possible to hold off on dropping a result until a bit of discussion on the previous result has had time to roll. Some people like to hit a certain pace of rollout and let the discussion fall where it may. Weekdays are usually better for engagement, but you'll probably catch some different commenters with a few results teased over a weekend.)

armoured van, Holden (sic), Monday, 22 March 2021 22:46 (three years ago) link

i'm always an advocate for slow rollouts. better to have some days that are light on discussion have it all go by in a blur - IMO!

i also don't think there's any issue with a results rollout happening simultaneous with another polls' voting period; the only thing that really necessitates Order And Timing (again IMO) is to avoid having multiple simultaneous *voting* periods, because making a ballot takes time and energy so they end up competing with each other and worsening all the polls. especially key for those of us who like to do some listening as we tinker intermittently with the ballots, or to haunt the voting thread for recommendations etc.

this honking's on a bobo (Doctor Casino), Monday, 22 March 2021 22:48 (three years ago) link

I hate doing fancy images to go with the rollout, so I was putting out Led Zeppelin results within an hour of getting out of bed after the deadline passed. Still took tracks ballots (well, one ballot) while I was rolling out album results.

Motoroller Scampotron (WmC), Monday, 22 March 2021 22:51 (three years ago) link

i have usually done a roll out when i got up on my day off, so around 9 - 10 AM ish on the West Coast. depending on how many you may want to roll out, i usually roll out about 20 - 25 per day and one result every 20 minutes or so. also have run things during the week but have some spill over until Saturday and even my Steely Dan one ran into a Sunday.

Bee OK, Monday, 22 March 2021 23:00 (three years ago) link

think i have been closer to 15 per day. so say, 15 per day and spread out over around 20 minutes each then it would be a five hour rollout. perfect, imo.

Bee OK, Monday, 22 March 2021 23:10 (three years ago) link

This is awesome feedback and advice, thanks, everyone!

Naive Teen Idol, Tuesday, 23 March 2021 00:40 (three years ago) link

alternative: five per day! or three! if i ever do a poll again that's where i'll be. i hate "missing" the rollout convo cause of work or w/e, but also you'll never please everybody, so whatever feels good to *you* is the best standard - you're putting in all the work after all!

this honking's on a bobo (Doctor Casino), Tuesday, 23 March 2021 11:42 (three years ago) link

Good input for me too--DOOM poll upcoming is my first. I was thinking to wait til right after the Rundgren rollout is done if that's alright.

maf you one two (maffew12), Tuesday, 23 March 2021 14:34 (three years ago) link

slot #108 is all yours for MF Doom.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 23 March 2021 15:59 (three years ago) link

So Daft Punk was a non-starter?

avatar of a kind of respectability homosexual culture (Eric H.), Tuesday, 23 March 2021 16:13 (three years ago) link

so is the situation now that there isn't any real order to any of these and I can just do my no wave poll whenever, like before we had this thread to organize things?

sarahell, Tuesday, 23 March 2021 16:19 (three years ago) link

no-one took it and wanted to run it, so it's still open for someone if they want to run it.

xpost

Bee OK, Tuesday, 23 March 2021 16:20 (three years ago) link

I'm super busy with work for the next couple months, so it's not like I can do it right away, but ... I've been kinda waiting my turn for lol a few years?

sarahell, Tuesday, 23 March 2021 16:20 (three years ago) link

yes no order, just say when you are ready so we only have one poll going at a time. a bunch of people signed up but haven't followed through.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 23 March 2021 16:22 (three years ago) link

Thanks Bee OK. I meant as opposed to starting during Rundgren rollout.

maf you one two (maffew12), Tuesday, 23 March 2021 17:22 (three years ago) link

FWIW, rollout for Rundgren is starting tomorrow. Expect to be done by the end of the week.

Naive Teen Idol, Wednesday, 24 March 2021 02:50 (three years ago) link

so we (by which i mean tuomas and moka) did these a while back:

PEOPLE OF THE NATIONS, DANCING TOGETHER! It's the 1990s TOP 100 ELECTRONIC TRACKS poll results!
RESULTS (of the very nebulously defined) 110 ELECTRONIC DANCE TRACKS of the 00s

unless i've missed it completely, there is no update for the 2010s. and there should be imo

mookieproof, Tuesday, 6 April 2021 22:07 (three years ago) link

We have not done a Chic Organisation poll, correct?

Naive Teen Idol, Thursday, 29 April 2021 18:01 (two years ago) link

see first post

(iirc someone (Dr. C.?) self-nommed to run it but has been gone for many years)

bobo honkin' slobo babe (sic), Thursday, 29 April 2021 18:17 (two years ago) link

i volunteered to run that one but am happy to release it to anyone who wants to do it

donna rouge, Thursday, 29 April 2021 18:44 (two years ago) link

What falls under the banner of "The Chic Organization?" I'm assuming it refers to more than just albums and singles released by Chic?

Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards produced for a series of artists in the years 1978 to 1982. They sometimes produced under the name 'The Chic Organization'.

so who's next?

ufo, Thursday, 6 May 2021 11:11 (two years ago) link

i was going to open the Shoegaze albums and EPs poll but the last poll went a bit long and my window closed. i might do Super Furry Animals this summer but unsure if there is enough interest? regardless of that i do have something else up my sleeve and will move forward with that next week, i think it will be a lot of fun.

Bee OK, Friday, 7 May 2021 22:57 (two years ago) link

SFA would be great

ufo, Saturday, 8 May 2021 00:25 (two years ago) link

It sounded like there was pretty good interest in an SFA poll on their thread. I'm excited for it at any rate!
