The 3 Chairs compilation was my grab. So much goodness, hours of groove.

was going to grab the 3 chairs comp but looks like it's gone now?
hopefully it'll be available again at some point.

awesome, thank you!

i'm curious now what happens when an album you purchased is removed from bandcamp - i guess it just disappears?
i mostly use the sonos app to listen but always make sure to download files as well

scanner darkly, Thursday, 25 February 2021 19:42 (three years ago) link

Yeah, if you haven't downloaded the files then I think you're out of luck.

change display name (Jordan), Thursday, 25 February 2021 20:07 (three years ago) link

shit, I didn't know that was a thing that happened!

on Amazon Music, if you buy a digital album and the album then gets removed from their library, you still remain access to the streaming digital media, and can still download it (you just can't buy or access the album if you never had previously).

if Bandcamp shit outright disappears, I have a lot of downloading to do to my Google Drive. not sure how they can get away with that since they advertise you getting free digital access to the music along with your mp3s/FLACs, which implies some level of permanency.

Red Nerussi (Neanderthal), Thursday, 25 February 2021 20:39 (three years ago) link

Bandcamp Friday! I plugged ilkae on here previously but he has a new album Questionable Casino out for $5 and the complete discography is now $12.20.

If any ilxors are into woozy electronic/wistful idm/chiptunes gone haywire & would like to get in touch then I'll buy them a copy of the full discog, or just the album if you prefer: ilxmail me yr email address today/this weekend.

If you do it in the next 12 hours (by approx 1am UK time tonight) I can buy it while it's still Bandcamp Friday for an extra glow of satisfaction.

(Probably unnecessary disclaimer: offer good for max 3 requests, roughly first come first served but entirely at my discretion; I reserve the right not to do this if the price goes up, if something very expensive happens to me in the next 12 hours, or if I just don't feel like it any more - although it is fully my intention to feel like it and you can call me rude names on ilx for the next week if I don't)

scampus unrest (a passing spacecadet), Friday, 5 March 2021 12:41 (three years ago) link

Considering the intent behind Bandcamp Friday and how it ensures more money in the pockets of artists it seems churlish to complain about anything, but... I'm not the biggest fan of how it has already re-aligned the release calendar to be a metric shit-ton of releases once a month, rather than being more spread out.

Again, I'm all for it, but it's easier for me to buy more music when it's more spread out and it's not as easy to give my wallet one huge hit once a month.

oh here we GO

I like signing up to dead sites (sleeve), Friday, 5 March 2021 16:10 (three years ago) link

lol, I'm still spending a fair bit today! I just wish it wasn't a once a month thing where we can make sure artists get a bigger cut, is all! I'd rather do it every week!

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 5 March 2021 16:13 (three years ago) link

I totally agree, I wish they would just halve or reduce their revenue share overall during the pandemic. What it's done to the release cycle, and to artists feeling like they're on a monthly schedule, is really a bummer.

My cart so far:

Slant (Korean hardcore band), Vain Attempt EP and 1 LP
ASC, An Increase in Entropy EP (throwback drum 'n' bass)
D-Town Brass, Ur and Demiurge
Earthless, Live in the Mojave Desert Vol. 1 (it's a multi-artist series, other volumes are by other bands, five in all)
Milford Graves/Jason Moran, Live at Big Ears

but also fuck you (unperson), Friday, 2 April 2021 14:22 (three years ago) link

shameless plug — here's a new project I'm involved with featuring members of dalek, goes cube, etc. kind of a moody electronic shoegaze thing: https://commoncruelty.bandcamp.com/

I was at one of those Big Ears performances.

Loscil and Underground Lovers buys for sure, then perusing Mark Eitzel / AMC live stuff, then The Apartments, Braids, and Celer pages to see if anything else jumps out.

Can't recommend The Apartments' _In and Out of the Light_ highly enough. Favorite 2020 release. Melancholy piano-led beauty.

I was at that Graves/Moran too, it was great.

I'm waiting for Finders Keepers to update their page with deadstock and whatnot; it's 20 minutes late and I am grown antsy

Boris continuing to do the business with the archival stuff, including among other things today just a whole album from 2009 that had never surfaced before. With Kurihara on it.

DJ Hank x DJ Orange Julius - OJ and Henny

In-the-pocket 160 bpm club tracks

And for my own shameless plug, this band Lovely Socialite has been doing a project where they pick a scale + bpm and all record parts without hearing each other. Then each member produces a track using the stems. They invited me to contribute to a track to this one, so it's somewhere in-between a remix and an original, it was fun:
