My parent's Hungarian neighbours used to have a dog whose name was pronounced PY-tosh.
Is this a Hungarian name?
How is it spelt in Hungarian?
Does it mean anything?
Thanks in advance for solving a long-time question.

It would be spelled 'Pitos' but that's not an actual Hungarian word as far as I can tell.

'Piros' maybe? (It means 'red'.)

Yes, that is the closest thing I could think of.

The dog was big, I don't remember if he was also red. It's possible I misheard the name they were calling him, from now on he will be Piros in my memory.
