Nice to see Jessie's victory in our poll last week (as well as her performance on The Graham Norton Show) resulting in a boost for the album this week. Its original chart run was just 3 - 44 - Out. To see her this high in the mid-weeks is impressive.

1 Foo Fighters - Medicine at Midnight (35.4k)
2 Fleet Foxes - Shore (5.3k)
3 Black Country, New Road - For the First Time (4.7k)
4 Celeste - Not Your Muse (4.5k)
5 The Weeknd - The Highlights (3.9k)
6 Jessie Ware - What's Your Pleasure?

Hopefully Remember Where You Are takes off and keeps the album selling for a while.

lovely video. took me a few seconds to realise that was Gemma Arterton and not Jessie though - they really do look a fair bit alike

"are we really arguing about whether she's underrated here? "

I think the better word is 'unknown.' Her albums were/are reasonably well championed and well reviewed in the US, but I doubt most people would know who she was by name.

one month passes...

Album is being re-released in June, first single out tomorrow.

Hi everyone,

So, after telling you all in January that I was going to do a deluxe, it seems like I’ve taken my sweet time doing it. But it’s here! And going to be yours June 11th.

What does one call a deluxe record after their first deluxe was called the Gold Edition? Well, Platinum Pleasure of course!!!

Now, we have to make the deluxe go to Platinum so I don’t feel like a wally.

The first taste of Platinum Pleasure (sounds like a condom range I know, hey, perhaps merch idea for tour in December???) goes out with the delightful Zoe Ball on Wednesday 28th April from 7.30am.

It’s called Please. It’s fun, flirtatious and a song that feels like we are getting closer to those moments of meeting up, talking, touching and kissing. I love it, I wrote it with Shungudzo, Danny Parker and James Ford (my dream team) and the video that is coming has loads more dancing for you lot to learn in time for the tour.

Now, onto the tour. December, I have everything crossed for it and honestly, can’t wait to perform to you all.

In the mean time, get ready for more music, more dancing and the arrival of What’s Your Pleasure The Platinum Pleasure edition. All formats (including limited edition vinyl, double cassette & more!) will be available on my store on Wednesday morning, so keep an eye out!

Sending loads of love to you all.
Jessie xxxxxxx

Wish the bonus disc was packaged separately as a single disc for those who'd bought the album on release, along with a discounted 2cd platinum edition to draw in those who hadn't. Feels more of a fan disservice, buying the regular edition twice.

Well I didn't actually buy the regular, but more tempted for this. Will it be okay to put put PP on a ballot after after listing the regular last year? Prob gonna do it anyway.

ridiculous that her outtakes are this good

disc 2 tracklist:
Please
Impossible
Eyes Closed
Overtime
Hot N Heavy
Pale Blue Light
0208 (feat. Kindness)
Adore You (Endless Remix)

ufo, Wednesday, 28 April 2021 08:20 (two years ago) link

I refuse to believe that a Platinum Edition wasn't always planned because there is no way you would sit on a song this good.

boxedjoy, Wednesday, 28 April 2021 08:36 (two years ago) link

yeah i figure there would have at least been plans floated to do something with the outtakes if they're all this good (and of course "overtime" is too)

ufo, Wednesday, 28 April 2021 09:15 (two years ago) link

I downloaded it. I want her to earn the revenue.

Ridiculously good.

Li'l Brexit (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 28 April 2021 10:06 (two years ago) link

Are they outtakes? I was under the impression she went back into the studio in lieu of touring.

Fabulous song once again, she doesn’t miss these days.

monotony, Wednesday, 28 April 2021 11:16 (two years ago) link

oh i'd just assumed because that's what deluxe edition tracks usually are, idk if she's said either way

ufo, Wednesday, 28 April 2021 11:25 (two years ago) link

You may be right. I’ve definitely seen some Instagram stories from the studio since WYP came out, but I also know that she’s talked about starting work on the next album and that it’s a continuation of the sound of “Remember Where You Are”, so it could be that she was recording that instead.

monotony, Wednesday, 28 April 2021 12:08 (two years ago) link

i found the interview where she talked about the next album and she said she intends for it to release early next year (so probably what she's been working on most recently then) & will be like "remember where you are" "with a bit of energy" which sounds great to me

ufo, Wednesday, 28 April 2021 13:44 (two years ago) link

ah and found another interview where she confirms the deluxe edition tracks are outtakes & that she's been working with kylie lately!

ufo, Wednesday, 28 April 2021 13:48 (two years ago) link

'Please' sounds great! I am excited by more Ware!

it kind of reminds me a little of the inferior and utterly obscure 80s track called “Wild Girls” by Rori, but to be honest that’s just indicative of a whole swathe of shimmery dancefloor oriented pop from the time. i love the space she allows for the track between lines, i love the fuckin HARMONIES.

Li'l Brexit (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 28 April 2021 17:20 (two years ago) link

more than a bit of Madonna’s “Open Your Heart” added to this stew too i reckon

we can make it mutual

the chorus harmonies and the minor key rhythm guitar remind me of .. talking heads

single of the decade imo

Haven't heard to the new song yet but I did finally listen to the album after enjoying the 3 tracks from the top 77. man, the album is something else, remarkable consistency. Think I'll wait for the platinum version and plunk down some cash

Vinnie, Wednesday, 5 May 2021 15:27 (two years ago) link

Perhaps a dull observation but that's some extremely Prince guitar that starts showing up in the chorus. I don't want to be reductive because the whole thing works as its own thing - but it is very much a late-80s love letter. George Michael would have loved it!

One Of The Bad Guys (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 5 May 2021 15:47 (two years ago) link

specifically "kiss"

John Cooper of Christian rock band Skillet (map), Wednesday, 5 May 2021 15:56 (two years ago) link

oh i don't know just spitballing. it also reminds me of talking heads. they did that minor key blues rhythm guitar lick all over the early stuff.

the 'ooo ooooo aye-ya-yaye" bit is very "all night long (all night)"

i love this thing that she's on where it's all about the little bits of fliration that happen before any physical contact. classy and romantic but still great fun.

John Cooper of Christian rock band Skillet (map), Wednesday, 5 May 2021 16:03 (two years ago) link

come to think of it, the harmonies in the chorus (which are what MAKE the track imo) also sound a little bit like remain-in-light era talking heads, but like joyful rather than aggressive and cocaine-y.

John Cooper of Christian rock band Skillet (map), Wednesday, 5 May 2021 16:05 (two years ago) link

the video seems like it's in conversation with roisin's 'plaything' video (which is superior imo but i mean it's hard to top)

yes, both these tracks are as good as most anything on the album
