so far it's predominantly an acoustic singer-songwriter album and i'm enjoying it much more than petals for armor

overall: nice enough, a few really lovely tracks, certainly better as a whole than petals for armor

ufo, Thursday, 4 February 2021 15:13 (three years ago) link

well thats saying something since I think P4A was one of the best albums of last year

The next Paramore album should be called "Paramore Is Still a Band."

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 4 February 2021 15:28 (three years ago) link

"paramore is a band" (as opposed to hayley&co) was a constant refrain when they were still active as well. part of their dramatic landscape, slight overprotestation and all. wouldn't be a bad title no.

putting this on omgggggg

difficult listening hour, Thursday, 4 February 2021 16:02 (three years ago) link

apparently there were breakup rumours yet again so i think hayley is getting a little tired of those lol

ufo, Thursday, 4 February 2021 16:03 (three years ago) link

love me some hayley

That's not really my scene (I'm 41) (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 4 February 2021 16:27 (three years ago) link

The next Paramore album should be called "Paramore Is Still a Band."

Or "Paramore's Got Their Own Album To Do"

I can already tell this is the kinda record I'm not gonna want to put on front to back very often but the right track at the right time is gonna hurt me

stimmy stimmy yah (Simon H.), Friday, 5 February 2021 14:05 (three years ago) link

yeah, same

"over those hills" almost sounds like late-period cardigans to me

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Friday, 5 February 2021 14:27 (three years ago) link

"kyrh" is devastating

Realize this probably sounds intentionally contrarian but I'm enjoying Flowers for Vases way more than I ever took to Petals (which outside of "Simmer" never landed for me). Yes, some of these tracks can feel like sketches but there's some downright lovely music and emotions here that are laid bare in a truly intimate recording.

three months pass...

I'm kind of obsessed with "Over These Hills." What a perfect, simple (but not too simple -- that modulation is key!) little song.

Mark E. Smith died this year. Or, maybe last year. (bernard snowy), Tuesday, 18 May 2021 13:04 (two years ago) link

one year passes...

I never got around to listening to this. When it came out, I had grown pretty tired of Petals for Armor and wasn't really interested in an acoustic singer-songwriter version of same. But today, I decided I needed an autumnal album and this one was easy to reach for. Just listened to it twice. It was just what I needed and a lot better than I expected.
