legit pretending the objection to "money is real" is an ontological one jfc

Pig ignorance of money and banking is as common as ear wax. Saying "money isn't real", when it is not supplemented by some hint of genuine knowledge, is indistinguishable from pig ignorance.

yes, "money isn't real" is shitpost-y, but if you can't appreciate how it looks and what it means for Democrats to be wringing their hands over $1400 or $2000 for someone who hasn't worked in 10 months, all while dousing Rolls Royce in 180 million of 'covid relief funds', all i can say is enjoy those midterms

Money is a group hallucination
like time
But quite convincing though.

Likely to make people go cold turkey if they try to withdraw from it though innit.

Stevolende, Sunday, 31 January 2021 20:05 (three years ago) link

taking more offense at the (imaginary) notion that "money isn't real" than at the insulting horseshit justification for paltry relief that "money is real" says everything anyone needs to know abt your politics

fuck off

Sorry if this was posted already, but Miller literally told the national guard they were not allowed to arrest or even search any protesters on 01/06 -- memo written TWO DAYS earlier.

Smoking gun: The orders from Miller to the DC National Guard for January 6 included in linked article— is a must read. The DC guard were allowed no helmets, no body armor, no weapons. They were not allowed to stop or arrest protesters. Letter orders no interference with rioters https://t.co/py9y17iw0U pic.twitter.com/tjsLBVcbPn

what it means for Democrats to be wringing their hands over $1400 or $2000

I know what you're saying and it is probably closer to political reality than my perspective is.

It is a perspective that is totally blind to every single detail of how the US government works and reduces a complex situation down to two blobs called Republicans and Democrats playing tug of war. Except the Republicans don't really matter. As of Jan 20 the Democrats are Running Things Now, so whatever happens, it only happened because the Democrats wanted it that way. That's how the great blob called the Public sees politics, so that's The Truth.

Which is why the filibuster must be destroyed as soon as possible. Even then, nothing happens without at least 50 votes in the Senate, including Manchin and Sinema, or some Republican crossovers. Which I fucking hate, but that is the reality I see and live in.

Compromise isn't a principle, it's a method (Aimless), Sunday, 31 January 2021 20:21 (three years ago) link

power is real and power manifests itself as money because we have been taught it is so
a fun thought experiment is to replace with "money" with "power" whenever you see it
as in the democrat party has campaigned on giving a universal and relatively small amount of power to people but both internally and externally the interest is more in making sure it is exactly the right amount of power rather than in getting that power distributed
because if too much power goes out to too many people the people with lots of power are afraid the less powerful will keep their power rather than give it back

Lol I'm the dude who said "money isn't real" and i can assure you i didn't mean it literally other than to say "lol who gives a fuck about the national debt rn when we're in a pandemic and much of the country was abandoned for much of last year and $600 isn't going to solve their problems but when trying to choose the amount to give our civilians maybe the HIGHER amount is the one to choose, not the smaller"

As of Jan 20 the Democrats are Running Things Now, so whatever happens, it only happened because the Democrats wanted it that way.

The Democrats spent tens of millions on advertising that said "$2000 checks" and had pictures of checks with $2000 printed on them prior to Jan 6, which is before Jan 20.

NEWS: Schumer throws cold water on GOP group of 10's $600B COVID proposal: "They should negotiate with us, not make a take-it-or-leave-it offer," Schumer tells me. "It doesn't have any state and local money in it. Look at that, just as one thing."

Story coming soon.

— Michael McAuliff (@mmcauliff) January 31, 2021

Schumer: "We cannot do the mistake of 2009 where they whittled down the program so that the amount of relief was so small that the recession lasted 4 or 5 years. And then on the ACA, when they spent a year, a year and a half negotiating and then didn't come to any agreement."

We need to be adopting Bernie's 2k/month plan but there's a non-negligible number of Democratic politicians (and voters) who believe "you gotta work to eat, man, possibly 60 hours a week. Do u think Bruce Springsteen's songs write themselves?".

Like those that are still working might idk actually get ahead and gave a future to look forward to when all this is over, those that aren't at least might get enough with that and unemployment to hopefully stay in their homes and not find themselves owing 9000 bucks in back rent when the moratorium ends, but that's "living for free", can't have that, even during a deadly epidemic where most non-essential people shouldn't be working.

With support across party lines, large majorities favor President Biden’s COVID rescue plan and want Congress to pass it.

These people suck but the fact that leadership is worrying about convincing moderate (self loathing, nervous, secretly right wing etc.) dems rather than republicans (who are apparently being treated as irrelevant) seems like progress. We’ll see I guess.

makes you think

it makes me think of the courageous "Anonymous" op-ed writer, who ended up being the assistant to the second best boy or whatever. he had to keep his name unsullied, so that he could continue to work incognito to stop trump from his worst excesses and maintain his cover

Karl Malone, Sunday, 31 January 2021 23:17 (three years ago) link

it's pretty obvious Trump et al were trying for a weak, plausible-deniability coup which came frighteningly close to working since basically your work is done for you the moment you tell Capitol Police and the Guard "now let's play nice!"

if Spaghetti-Os had whammy bars (Neanderthal), Sunday, 31 January 2021 23:22 (three years ago) link

I dunno, at least some of Bruce Springsteen's songs appear to have been auto-generated, he has been absurdly prolific for decades

Copybara / pasteybara (Ye Mad Puffin), Sunday, 31 January 2021 23:48 (three years ago) link

Idk if I’d call it weak, it’s genuinely scary to think about if they had succeeded at getting close to AOC and other congress members. It seems like violent intent was obvious and that’s been backed up by all the subsequent reporting and from what I can tell the media rhetoric hasn’t matched the serious of what happened.

“Big” Don Abernathy, Sunday, 31 January 2021 23:52 (three years ago) link

not "weak" as in "lol ur attempted coup was weaksauce, bro", 'weak' as in "we're not going to come right out and say 'stand down and let the protesters do their thing', we're going to pretend to support them and condemn violence while weakening security so that our hopefully desired outcome occurs and we can say we have nothing to do with it".

the media has been reporting how much more serious than initially reported it was for weeks. nobody is saying it was nbd anymore because it wasn't.

if Spaghetti-Os had whammy bars (Neanderthal), Sunday, 31 January 2021 23:55 (three years ago) link

How many more revelations like this will it take GOP senators to vote the decent way during teh impeachment. LIke is there a tipping point or are they infinitely callous.
Are office phonelines perpetually busy with people trying to instil some level of conscience in a vacuum.

Stevolende, Monday, 1 February 2021 01:13 (three years ago) link

Stevolende, do you read American news? No offense, but this has been covered every day. The GOP support insurrection and sedition

well, most of them don't QUITE say that out loud, just yet. although some do.

but yes, they do
