I... what did I just watch was it satire? Tell me that wasnt real. Middle aged men living in the Young Ones?

I feel like pieces on the fratty gross Schumer house surface every few years or so.

that's pretty weird honestly

Is this what happens when men dont have wives doing all their shit for them.

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Friday, 29 January 2021 03:22 (three years ago) link

Does that give you confidence in them running the country. I mean I don't run something as important as that or let news crews in to film squalor.
Seems odd that they would let things get so bad or let that get out.
Public image needs them to appear organised surely. The broken windows directive may have been shown to be problematic and not work as supposed but right now I would think they would be doing their best to instil confidence not destroy it.

So many questions

Indeed! But even so!

I guess I just assumed most senators are disgusting and reek of shit and garbage up close

So Twitter clickbait strikes again. The cliches are getting worse than youtube thumbnails at this point.

This 30-second clip is representative of the half-hour program. Dude subsequently ran the most incompetent federal budget in living memory, and was then appointed ambassador to the US, where his job has consisted of instagramming himself smoking enormous cigars, and writing "stop the steal" editorials until approx 9.7 seconds before the raid on the Capitol.

Well now no wonder the last 4 years happened if one can have no confidence in the then opposition leader because of the squalor he allows himself to live in.
Couldn't they get a new guy who could at least afford a domestic cleaner or organise one.

I thought the broken windows policy was well known and the parallel would be pretty clear. I mean if he's living like that like for real what details in what he's supposed to be organising is he overlooking.
I mean come on surely the public has a right to know?

Just found out that ironically one of the big exponents of the broken window policy was Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

Stevolende, Friday, 29 January 2021 08:05 (three years ago) link

Actually that's then minority senate leader not party innit.

Stevolende, Friday, 29 January 2021 08:07 (three years ago) link

The broken windows policy has also been proven to be disastrous racist bullshit, so there's that, too.

I did say it was problematic

A bunch of overgrown fratboy fucks acting like overgrown fratboy fucks isn't surprising to me, I guess. These are the sorts of dudes who never learned to do anything around the house for themselves, and they mostly go to this house to sleep.

The return of our beloved potatoes (the table is the table), Friday, 29 January 2021 12:22 (three years ago) link

Still, would hope for more from the head of the senate. Maybe the dems need a new role holder. Maybe have done for a while.h

what was that story from a few years ago about a fairly high-level republican who leased a property in d.c. and when he moved out the landlord discovered he had literally not once taken out the trash - there were like two rooms of rotting trash bags, spilling out of the doorways

ah it was scott pruitt. of course. head of the EPA who literally cannot stop his own home from becoming polluted with garbage.

Go big, Chuck!

But many Democrats say privately that they see little hope of attracting the 10 Republican votes they would need to overcome a filibuster and avoid using the budget reconciliation process to advance the bill unless they significantly scale back Mr. Biden’s ambitions.

Haunted by what Senator Chuck Schumer of New York, the majority leader, referred to as the “mistake” of 2009, when the Democratic Party was in control of both chambers and the White House but was “too timid and constrained in its response to the global financial crisis,” top Democrats are pushing to avoid settling for a small package.

“If our Republican colleagues decide to oppose this urgent and necessary legislation, we will have to move forward without them,” Mr. Schumer said, adding that he planned to press ahead with a budget resolution as early as next week.

did he get a spine implant?

it's quite possible that they'll manage to put together an ambitious package through reconciliation, it's also quite possible that nothing else ambitious will happen beyond that.

At least most of the harm has been paused it seems.
So at least first do no harm seems to be happening which is a step forward from waiting for the other boot to drop and finding that the person upstairs has more feet than you expected

Good! Honestly aren't the GOP being a bit dense on this one? It passes either way, they have the chance to at least take some of the credit.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 29 January 2021 20:42 (three years ago) link

my prediction: mcconnell will force the democrats to use the reconciliation path for covid relief in order to test how well the public responds to the usual feigned outrage that the republicans weren't allowed to weaken it and water it down and therefore it is a travesty of democracy!!!!

if it polls well in the right states, he'll goad the democrats into nuking the filibuster and then go full bore on outrage over republican exclusion, "silencing" and "censorship" as the big election issue for 2022. if it polls badly enough, he may cooperate a bit more in order to win some bipartisan brownie points, but still do as much as he can get away with to sink or ruin every democratic initiative.

p sure outrage over republican exclusion, "silencing" and "censorship" are all dead letters electorally if they're up against "massive and effective COVID response and even more massive economic recovery act" but i agree with you that Mitch will probably try it anyway, there are plenty of talking heads and editorialists ready to parrot the story ad nauseum
