I've been rooting around in StarGazer's back catalog and will be reviewing the new one. Some interesting stuff. Their publicist sold them short, IMO.

And yeah, the Coffins compilation kicks all kinds of ass.

Chelsea Wolfe collab with Emma Ruth Rundle that just seemed inevitable, really:

Full album down the road hopefully...

My thoughts exactly. We talked about it a bit in the Chelsea Wolfe thread, if you're curious.

That's where I discovered it. :)

This is pathetically little to go on, but I choose to believe that Sargent House retweeted this because it's actually in the works:

Please do a full album!

One of my favorite cheeseball power metal bands, Crystal Viper, have a new album out tomorrow.

now that we have an ERR/CW single, we just need to add Marissa Nadler and we can finally have Evil Boygenius

On a completely different note, here's some shoegazey/ambient/drone metal for solo guitar:

It's quite beautiful, really.

new Tribulation as expected is high quality goth-pop metal, kinda like the last one.

the contrast between the colorful, hooky instrumentals and the one-dimensionally gruff and mean vocals is a big part of their appeal for me

Seems like a new-fangled Americanized Atari Teenage Riot which I am definitely okay with.

The new Rob Zombie song is...kinda surprising! It starts off as his usual nonsense (the lyrics are a bunch of "Yeah!"s and "Alright!"s with random phrases thrown down in between), but goes full Nebula/Fu Manchu desert stoner rock in the second half.

Press release headline: ALL FOUR MEMBERS OF THE CLASSIC ANTHRAX LINEUP TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE UPCOMING "AMONG THE LIVING" GRAPHIC NOVEL

Guess that makes Dan Spitz the new "Not Man!"

Seriously though, he's an anti-vaxxer. Fuck him.

Haven't listened to Rob Zombie in more than a decade. Second half definitely makes that song.

lol. came here to sing the praises of I've Seen All I Need To See only to see the above comments. I mean, thats been the vocal style he's used forever. shocked me at first but I love its uniqueness and passion. This album sounds more like the live show than a lot of their recent releases. I love it.

AMG's January highlight is this progressive thrash album by Chileans Demoniac:

https://edgedcircleproductions.bandcamp.com/album/so-it-goes

I've only sampled the first couple of minutes and it sounds quite promising even for the halfhearted thrasher that I happen to be.

Tech death band from Belarus, Eximperitus for short. The new one is giving me some classic Nile vibes, but it's just a mammoth ride and doesn't overstay it's welcome at, like, 37 minutes.

(Our beloved local caveman pointed out that I mistakenly posted this to last year's rolling metal thread, so here it is again…)

As much as it pains me to say it (again), Romanian metal mostly sucks balls, but this is actually good:

https://daius.bandcamp.com/album/ascuns

Folk, neo-Romantic quasi blackgaze with passionate vocals, some lovely melodies and a uniquely prominent nai (pan flute) part that manages to keep cheese at bay (Gheorghe Zamfir this is not). Daniel Neagoe is way too prolific for his own good so it's nice to hear him hit the bull's eye for once.

Outburn Magazine is returning to the print format. As someone who likes actual magazines, I approve of this and will likely subscribe.

This seems relevant to this thread: Roadburn Redux: 16-18 April, online edition, just announced its program.

* NEPTUNIAN MAXIMALISM will re-imagine their album 'Éons'
* SOLAR TEMPLE live debut, made up of members from Turia and Fluisteraars
* DUST MOUNTAIN (feat. members of Oranssi Pazuzu, Dark Buddha Rising, Death Hawks), live debut
* KAIRON; IRSE! perform 'Polysomn' in full

And loads more. Details here: https://roadburn.com/roadburn-redux-first-names-announced-for-2021-online-edition/

I've not been grabbed by online festivals since the rona started tbf, but this looks pretty promising!

Yeah! It's 'pay what you like', so you can't go wrong really. I've never attended Roadburn, sadly, but line-up wise it's always pretty much perfect.

Kinda surprised to hear gothic/death rock influenced metal coming from ex-Goreaphobia members but I dig this first song.

Shadows is a new dark avant-garde metal band from Immolation and ex-Goreaphobia guitarist Alex Bouks, who brought other former Goreaphobia members to the table. (...) Now Alex has returned to his musical roots in Shadows, with classic influences featuring Pink Floyd, Celtic Frost, Sisters of Mercy, Black Sabbath, Mercyful Fate or Voivod, and with musicians he always felt chemistry with, including Henry Piotrkowski and Jake G of the split-up Goreaphobia and Lance Walter of another Philadelphia unit, Dominance.

A good Gizmodo piece on how to spot Nazi metal bands. Potential sources of annoyance:

1) It's on Gizmodo, so it's aimed at non-metalheads ("Yawn, I know all this stuff already")
2) It's by K1m K3lly, so if you have beef with her, just don't click

but also fuck you (unperson), Friday, 5 February 2021 16:39 (three years ago) link
