Amid a slew of former Trump aides struggling to find jobs following the former president’s exit from the White House, former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany may have already found her footing in the post-Trump world — by potentially boomeranging back to her safe space of Fox News.

In her termination financial disclosure report obtained by CREW on Tuesday, McEnany indicated that she had reached an employment agreement with Fox News starting this month.

While there has been undoubtedly some good news from his administration so far, I'm honestly quite shocked that his tepid and pathetic COVID response isn't getting more press. So he's promised to maintain the exact same grossly inadequate pace of distribution that we already had? Yay?

He's said they intend to increase the pace; I think it's smart not to make any specific promises before a coordinated plan can actually be devised, which will also involve identifying multiple existing points of failure.

where are you hearing that? word on the street is that the 100M doses in 100 days goal was too low, and they're going to be more like 1.5M per day by early summer. that's way better than trump's response, which makes sense because the trump admin didn't have a national vaccination distribution plan.

xpost - I get that he wouldn't want to promise any specific number or metric, but I would just hope he'd push for a higher bar to clear than just "exactly where we were".

and there are indications that the number/metric of 100M was too low, that it'll be more like 150M

I don't really think it's fair to criticize them for that, the Biden admin has been on the job for one week and I think they assumed that the Trump admin would have **something** in the way of a distribution plan, not just an empty folder

My point is that we were largely already hitting 1M doses per day, so this is not an improvement at all. That's literally just carrying on with where we already were.

yes, which is why everyone's expecting the goal to go up (to 1.5M doses per day, or 150M over 100 days). the problem is that it's unclear right now how many vaccinations are being held up, if there are previous ones that can be released, etc etc. the trump admin left them a project management shitshow, this is one of the most complicated projects, ever, and it's been 6 days.

it's weird to see these quotes from McConnell carry that implied "yes, we're evil, we have no choice but to be evil"

so rather than immediately jumping the gun and saying "1.5M a day is the new goal!", they're waiting until they know what they actually have now and can expect in the near future, so they can set a realistic expectation rather than aim too low again (or too high)

Defense Production Act was only invoked a few days ago, but it seems reasonable to assume that Pfizer and Moderna were attempting to maximize production output already to meet anticipated global demand. The major problems seem to be downstream of manufacture and they arose from a shocking lack of centralized command and control, communication and coordination from the Trump/Pence administration. Biden's people have to undo the tangle and rebuild on the fly.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely think we will get there and we are undoubtedly in a better position with a Biden administration than we were under Trump. Absolutely. At the same time, I find it frustrating that the one very specific metric he kept touting was not ambitious at all, in fact was what we were already meeting.

Trump was actually getting individual states to compete against each other over what pandemic medical supplies they got. Meaning there was even more of a mess. Definitely not first do no harm

I think the idea was mainly that the public needed to hear a clear and consistent message with hard numbers attached which could be reliably delivered. This is already an advance on the daily lies, vague hand waving and "people are saying it's a beautiful program, it's the best" messaging that we were getting out of the previous jackass-in-chief.

I'm sure some of that was just about communicating that there is a plan and allowing people to see ahead. I take comfort knowing that they're setting goals and not just letting things roll out in a slapdash manner.
