"I love the way butter won't melt in Trump's mouth"

need to see the evidence on this

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Thursday, 21 January 2021 14:29 (three years ago) link

Those brainwashed cult members cannot overcome our soul force.

What is running out of my nose rn, oh it is my brain which has melted.

if the ultimate endgame for q is "it becomes scientology for people outside of los angeles" then that's fine imo

Bellingcat had this excellent primer last week as well

That's optimistic imo. Q's a dragnet that's been drawn over p much the whole world now. Like the MediaMatters piece says, it takes on a different form and emphasis of nutters in different countries. It's completely easy to ignore Scientlogy and never ever have to deal with it in real life; this, not so much.

to be clear, i think the endgame will be worse than that

boz conspiracy by toby hus (voodoo chili), Thursday, 21 January 2021 14:41 (three years ago) link

and even if they believe their "soul force" is enough to counter whatever they think is going on, and that "power of prayer" mindset deters them from action, it is still not ideal to have a large group of people praying for the execution of their political enemies.

Vaguely tempted to start a 'What if Trump had been reelected?' counterfactual thread, partly because I wonder how far these people would have taken their little 'game'.

xpost I've been saying variations of this for years. It's like they've somehow had zero previous exposure to benign outlets for their wilder imaginings or baser impulses. Go DM a D&D campaign or shred on some CoD, for chrissakes, and stop dragging literally everyone in the world into your waking fever dream.

I heard some talk of this on a podcast and those chan missives sounded like nothing so much as clues on 3-2-1. So yeah, Q is the reanimated corpse of Ted Rogers and you've won "Dusty" Biden?

I just watched the Leap Day William episode of 30 Rock, there's a train of thought Tracy does in response to a 'clue' re the soup kitchen he's standing next to, that's exactly this.
Tracy: "Remember where I came from." But we all came from the sea! Sea, like the letter 'C' which is part of the alphabet. Alphabet soup. Soup kitchen. Kitchen--
Man: --No, no, don't keep going!
Tracy: The Kitchen Debate with Richard Nixon. Richard M. Nixon. The M Train. Soul train. Chicken soup for the soul. Chicken soup. Soup kitchen.

I'm loving all these stories about tearful, crestfallen Qberts, but it begs the question: did they really believe this was going to happen? That Democrats and Tom Hanks would be executed for pedophilia at Guantanamo Bay? Or was this all some kind of elaborate role playing game?

I mean, I guess some of them must have believed it, but the majority? It's fucking crazy talk.

It is to laugh

This is playing out over and over again on the QAnon/pro-Trump internet. Whenever someone suggests taking real action, like voting, organizing, forming a new political party, running for office, etc. the response is always the same: Elections are rigged, so it won't matter. pic.twitter.com/TjFtgS0H4f

— Molly Hensley-Clancy (@mollyhc) January 21, 2021

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 21 January 2021 22:15 (three years ago) link

in the sense that elections are generally rigged to prevent lunatics from getting elected to pursue batshit conspiracy theories, yes. these people should be satisfied with the number of nuts they get through as it is.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 21 January 2021 22:18 (three years ago) link

Belief isn't an all or nothing thing. I think part of the QAnon phenomenon is that believers mostly began by allowing themselves to believe in the possibility that the Q mythology was based in truth. They just gave it a chance. The rest of the work was done by crowd psychology and the seductive nature of the Q mythos, which offered them simple enemies with purely evil motives who would be summarily dealt with by simple retributive justice in the end.

The fact that none of this was detectable in visible reality was easily explained by the super-secret nature of the evil conspiracy and the righteous counter-conspiracy. Q was the prophet who gave them tiny glimpses into the complex machinations of both sides and this solidified its 'reality'. As soon as you believed in Q's reality, you got sucked into the vortex.

I’m okay if they are too demoralized to do anything, including random violence.

Boring United Methodist Church (Boring, Maryland), Thursday, 21 January 2021 22:19 (three years ago) link

For most of them the excitement was in waiting for it all to go down, like kids waiting for Christmas to come. There will be a few who wanted the public executions of their named and known 'enemies' (e.g. Democrats in Congress and state governments) so all-consumingly that when they realize nobody's going to do it for them, they'll start seeking another way for it to happen.
