he was forever in the pub last time he was manager - i used to drink in a few of the same places - so he's probably been hit hard by lockdown

That goal OMFG I keep thinking we'll hit the bottom of this shite.

Scott Brown leading from the front there.

Well *I* know who he is (aldo), Wednesday, 20 January 2021 22:00 (three years ago) link

With Loovens there was always a hint of a player hiding in there somewhere.

Hopefully Dermot D is lurking and sees it's so bad we're getting 'plucky' zings from Hibees.

Was hoping St Mirren might at least get to the League Cup final yesterday, this season's a washout.

i know this is obviously nonsense but if this came to pass i would seriously have to evaluate giving two fucks about celtic

Can't believe you've got it in for LAMPS before he (never) gets here!

(also fuck the Sun, always)

Frimpong out.

Managed by clowns at every level.

:(

new variant (onimo), Wednesday, 27 January 2021 18:34 (three years ago) link

He might turn out to be a very good player one day but 11.5 million for a wing back who can't cross a ball is not too shabby. Watch us squander it on two or three haddies though.

Waterloo Subset (Tom D.), Wednesday, 27 January 2021 20:29 (three years ago) link

it'll be used to recoup loss of revenue id imagine

Fenners' Pen (jim in vancouver), Wednesday, 27 January 2021 20:31 (three years ago) link

Yes it'll be squandered on unsold tickets.

... just discovering his surname was actually Eðvaldsson.

... and, less happily, his father was allegedly a Nazi war criminal.

Waterloo Subset (Tom D.), Thursday, 28 January 2021 12:16 (three years ago) link

I also just discovered that

Story gets weirder, from his younger brother, Alti's wiki page:

Chapman Pincher alleged that Atli was the owner of certain documents that might add further weight to the case against Roger Hollis, that Hollis was a Russian spy at the head of MI-5 in the UK.[8] As Pincher, who died in 2014, stated "I have been unable to extract a copy of the interrogation report from Atli", p. 603. The interrogation report was alleged by Pincher to have been written by his deceased father, Evald Mikson.

I used to work for Shuggie back in the early 90s, he owned a hotel up the west coast, and once held a warm-up event for the World's Strongest Man in the village park with all the strongmen staying in his hotel. Somewhere in my parents' house, there is a photo of me being lifted by Magnus ver Magnusson while Shuggie laughs in the background. That was one of the weirder turns that my life took.

ailsa, Thursday, 28 January 2021 16:27 (three years ago) link

Now that is cool.

Waterloo Subset (Tom D.), Thursday, 28 January 2021 17:08 (three years ago) link

haha, great story.

i had heard that he owned a hotel on the west coast, but also that latterly he had been living in Linwood

Fenners' Pen (jim in vancouver), Thursday, 28 January 2021 17:18 (three years ago) link

Linwood no more ;_;

Waterloo Subset (Tom D.), Thursday, 28 January 2021 17:20 (three years ago) link

retirement in linwood sounds like the celtic season 2020/2021 of retirements

Fenners' Pen (jim in vancouver), Thursday, 28 January 2021 17:24 (three years ago) link

Big Peter the CEO is offski then (after end of season £££s).

I'll use my favourite phrase I inherited from my dad:

cheerio tae fuck!

new variant (onimo), Friday, 29 January 2021 17:09 (three years ago) link

Am nicking that phrase, say thanks to your dad from me!

Can't exactly say I'm lamenting the departure of Lawwell, but I hope the new guy pisses off the other side as much:

Lawwell was a massive part of the treatment Rangers received in 2012. Forcibly made sure we were crushed. He had his tentacles into everything and everyone. He is a cancer to the Scottish game and a bully who has held a dark cloud over chairman, SPFL and others.

Good Riddance

(Replies also contain hilarious revisionism over the end of the 2007/8 season)

ailsa, Friday, 29 January 2021 17:22 (three years ago) link

cleaning house at the end of the season makes sense. a shame that the science of the management of football clubs doesn't really exist. in north american sports there's a real stress on the "front office" and all that that entails, and people get fired a lot more often for not doing a good job. it almost feels churlish to be mad at lawwell when he has presided over a lot of success, but the ronny deila and lennon appointments were dire, and there is always the feeling that significant things like bringing in the rat rodgers always come from desmond

Dusty Benelux (jim in vancouver), Friday, 29 January 2021 18:22 (three years ago) link

also of course the success when rangers weren't in the top division shouldn't be asterisked and you can only beat what's in front of you etc. but really any cunt could have presided over success in those years

Dusty Benelux (jim in vancouver), Friday, 29 January 2021 18:28 (three years ago) link

Genuinely rather go with 10 men than see Shane Duffy near our pitch.

new variant (onimo), Saturday, 30 January 2021 15:42 (three years ago) link

Bitton one of those guys you spend years thinking might just be a player but he isn't even close.

Waterloo Subset (Tom D.), Saturday, 30 January 2021 19:05 (three years ago) link

At least lockdown means the St Mirren fans are out of my actual line of vision in pubs. Apart from smug best mate who has moved beyond mocking to mere patronising now :-(
