re Morgan Nicholls : "I can see how he came to the attention of The Who, he is exactly like an Alt-Rock version of Entwhistle."

pretty sure i read somewhere that his solo album, Organized, was recorded using an old hammond that belonged to the Who, pretty there is a family/friend connection.

yeah, there is a family/friend connection : Morgan Nicholls is the son of Billy Nicholls.

they toured a heck of a lot on the toilet circuit with people like snuff and perfect daze and milk.

not that anyone cares, but i think i meant the milk monitors. or sink.

I care, Nick :)

I never saw them, the reunion gig happened at a time in my life when there was no way I could go to it.

Since we are posting youtubes these 2 are my faves and haven't been posted:

Busload to Bingo (I could only find a live version of this early track which is a bit more Snuff-like than their later stuff)

This performance of Hold It Down on The Word is wild, better than the record maybe.

i'll say one thing for The Word, they really knew how to get across the energy and excitement of a band. different genre, but same thing with 'Dance Energy' with Normski. possibly the same same production team? makes the likes of 'Later...' look so dull in comparison (not difficult i guess!)

something i never ever expected from a senseless thing, but damn ..

mark e, Thursday, 14 January 2021 21:26 (three years ago) link

amazing, always loved that track (think it was on a cover CD, we used to play it a lot) but never made the Senseless Things connection until this moment. Would love someone to do an oral history of that track, especially with his little brother, and Miss Parker herself of course.

an old school NME styled family tree re Senseless Things would be insane.
they spread out far and wide.

mark e, Thursday, 14 January 2021 21:48 (three years ago) link

there totally should be a Pete Frame web app that you can use to build rock family trees

I made one for my Pulp website using ms paint and a custom font called ff-nosebleed

why is there no dvd of THE WORD (channel 4, uk)

piscesx, Thursday, 14 January 2021 22:15 (three years ago) link

Lovely work, Camaraderie!

(The faux-Frame font is pretty good, but one-letterform-only means the kerning on PULP is hecka squished every time :) )

I might have watched that Penguin Cafe interview and never made the connection.

Once travelled to Harlow to see Senseless Things at The Square on the full understanding that there was no getting back to London before the trains started again.

lol at Billy Duffy being from Cardboard Vampyres, a band who played a few gigs in 2004, and not from The Cult

he was in the nosebleeds with m*****sey too! he was vini reilly's replacement

You need to click on the band member to see their own tree in full.

PaulTMA, Thursday, 14 January 2021 23:29 (three years ago) link

I did, but maybe I needed to shake it harder to get the other bands loose or something

shivers me timber (sic), Thursday, 14 January 2021 23:32 (three years ago) link

two years pass...

I was thinking about this band and I think this song needs some boosting
