Do people still use terrestrial tv channels anywhere. Priority was to try to set up channels which was what screen spent time saying.

yes, everywhere. vastly more concentrated viewing is still done of linear broadcasts than nearly every pick-and-choose online option.

facebook's way it gives you a list of suggestions of people or things any time you type any word of 3 letters or more, and moves the screen to accommodate said list making it very easy to link in a random person / organisation.

I blame Apple for the lack of instructions. The pro forma Quick Start guide is all I expect from any electronics these days, and while I can usually figure things out, since they're typically not much more elaborate than "plug in, turn on, that's all it takes!" if anything goes wrong it's hard to troubleshoot.

Over the summer we got these two cheap little red Ikea side tables to put drinks on by a firepit, and they each came with a 35 page instruction booklet that was essentially "wipe dry and store when not in use" in three dozen languages.

when u mute someone in MS Teams cos they're unmuted, breathing heavily, have background sounds going haywire, and they don't respond to you asking them to mute their phone.

and then after u mute them, they unmute themselves and the noise resumes....so you mute them again, and they unmute themselves.

u think I wanna hear Darth Vader eating applesauce?

Got a lens for the phone camera for Christmas. No directions! Just either (a.) scan the QR code or (b.) break off the USB drive from the card inside the box and stick it inside your computer.

But it was Christmas morning, and I just wanted to quietly read the instructions without having to pull out my Samsung Android Galaxy?

I got the same kind of lens from Wish a year ago for like a buck. Except those didn't come with a USB drive inside.

When I did try out the USB, it opened Spotify and just left it hanging there?

Now finding that Virgin Horizon box keeps asking me to sign in to circumvent the parental guidance thing before every showing of Barry.
Can't work out how to completely turn off the setting which is stupid if everybody in this house is going to be an adult who is over the age of consent.

Looked it up online and seems to have been a problem for at least the last few years people complaining about it in 2014.
BUt seems to have stepped up again recently

english bands, used to seeing post-vat prices in shops, who put those prices into bandcamp, not realising that BC will always(?) add the 20% again.

12 quid for a cd is ok, 12 + 20% + 1.50 postage and it's getting ridiculous.

7.99 for digital version, => 9.58

(american are used to pre-tax prices, but then the state tax is usually <10% so not so much a problem)

Is it just me that finds the fiddly bits of sellotape/sticky-back plastic used to seal-up loaves of broad fantastically irritating? I hardly ever manage to get one open without resorting to a shiv and never manage to use them to re-seal. Fuck off, I say.

the stuff i buy (that 50/50 stuff) has a loop of sticky stuff around the neck of the loaf but the two ends that would normally stick together, glue to glue, are instead stuck to a V of paper which you can rip apart.

This should work in theory but invariably doesn't.

COMING NEXT announcments on screen 5 minutes before the end of the show, which is just when the denoument is happening.

ie the horror channel just then, Night Of The Demon, just as the demon appears for the last time COMING NEXT covering the bottom 25% of the screen, white on red.

I know I'm not alone in this and I don't think it's necessarily irrational, but holy crap, how can YouTube keep making the user experience even worse? I've made my peace, such as it is, with the constant ads before every video, but this ever more prevalent trend of inserting the ads into the middle of videos is pretty much rendering it worthless. Tried to watch a three and a half minute music video with my son this morning and it was twice(!) interrupted by ads, once about 30 seconds in and again about two minutes in.

I feel like I'm going to hell for this, but there was a news story about two women who wanted to contribute to their food bank so both went to a supermarket and spent £30 each on groceries which they then took to the food bank. Most food banks will happily accept monetary donations so they can spend it on what they need and it doesn't incur any risk of going to a supermarket in a pandemic and then having a TV crew to come and film a report about it.
I realise I haven't donated anything myself for a while so going to rectify that.

It looks like my bank hjas decided to update its smartphone app to only work on smartphones later than my device. I thought, ok that is a real pain and seriously inconveniences me. I thought I found a work around like I could do online banking through internet on phone and on my desktop. So that was not as handy but workable.
NOw I go to online bank and to sign in I need to have the app on my device to confirm my account is being legally accessed. Otherwise i need to wait 10 days for another device to be delivered so I can mess around with taht too.
Jesus what a bunch of arseholes.
I need to access my account now to pay bills and rent and things what the fuck are they playing at.

just want to give a shout-out to universities and other institutions which insist on job applicants filling out a 24-page word document application form with six separate personal statements detailing your qualities in regards to six different aspects of the role, taking about eight hours to fill in properly, then send you a two-sentence form rejection email four weeks later, or maybe not even that.

I got the FBP notice about how FB had updated tehir code to stop teh Revert site from working earlier thsi week. I'm now stuck with what appears to be the mobile version on my desktop.
Can't see any controls to tell me how I change from that to any other view.
Shouldn't be a big deal but this is an annoying set up.
Would be good to be able to access some set of controls over the look at least.

Companies who expand wildly beyond their initial purpose. Tesco (supermarket) - hey we're now a mobile phone service provider! And a credit card company! And a bank! Oakley (sunglasses) - buy our rucksacks and shoes! Google (internet search) - play our videogames! (that went well)

i'm at an airbnb with a decorative platter featuring a map of michigan with cutesy illustrations for each town (car for detroit, cherries for traverse city, etc).

there's also a drawing of a city skyline for chicago but it includes none of the buildings most people would associate with the chicago skyline. like why would you not draw the willis tower or hancock building?
