You're telling me that this isn't an aggressive way to frame something that no one with any sense would give a shit about?

There’s just something aggressively anti-intellectual about not having heard of a four-plus decade chronicler of NYC nightlife and queer issues

Reads as pretty aggro to me.

"Bi" Dong A Ban He Try (the table is the table), Tuesday, 29 December 2020 12:40 (three years ago) link

It's the attitude, "how dare you not know who this totally marginal, unimportant person is! Why don't you Google it, you nincompoop!"

"Bi" Dong A Ban He Try (the table is the table), Tuesday, 29 December 2020 12:42 (three years ago) link

Go hassle someone else who might be intimidated by your schtick because baby, I’m bored now.

Defending your shitty attitude by continuing to have a shitty attitude doesn't do you any favors. I've never had a notable interaction with you on this board, so pray tell, what's my schtick that so annoys you? Having a different perspective than yours?

Pierre Cardin

BREAKING: Fashion designer Pierre Cardin, whose Space Age style was among the iconic looks of 20th-century fashion, has died at 98, France’s Academy of Fine Arts says. https://t.co/hM3UU8hPdd

cannot read his name without then singing it in the mellifluous way of the adverts for his perfume back in the day

People Who Dead

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 29 December 2020 13:52 (three years ago) link

As though we're supposed to know who Pierre Cardin is lol

early-Woolf semantic prosody (Hadrian VIII), Tuesday, 29 December 2020 14:02 (three years ago) link

Is he related to Cardin B? No. Then forget him.

SQUIRREL MEAT!! (Capitaine Jay Vee), Tuesday, 29 December 2020 14:07 (three years ago) link

Googled him. Appears he made handkerchiefs or something, which no one with any sense would give a shit about.

Alba, Tuesday, 29 December 2020 14:09 (three years ago) link

I will steadfastly refuse to mourn someone who is French, looked like a prat and is someone whom I've never even fucking heard of.

calzino, Tuesday, 29 December 2020 14:32 (three years ago) link

Didn't Pierre Cardin design the Space Force uniforms? I seem to recall reading that in an AP obit

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 29 December 2020 14:36 (three years ago) link

Thread officially lit af its what they wouldve wanted

spruce springclean (darraghmac), Tuesday, 29 December 2020 15:08 (three years ago) link

I didn’t know the musto person and can’t say that I “give a shit” but come on that was a fucking absurd response to Ned posting “musto on alig” plus a link. What the fuck is wrong with you lmao

Cheese flavoured Momus (wins), Tuesday, 29 December 2020 15:22 (three years ago) link

Don’t even have to google, could have just... clicked the link, if interested. Or ignored

Cheese flavoured Momus (wins), Tuesday, 29 December 2020 15:24 (three years ago) link

I'm not afraid of death but I am afraid of the rolling obituary thread. Pain can be alleviated by morphine but the pain of social ostracism cannot be taken away.

Evan, Tuesday, 29 December 2020 15:34 (three years ago) link

tables response wasn't to ned afaict

the response to ned was

Musto on Alig

As though we're supposed to know who Musto is lol

― joni mitchell jarre (anagram), Saturday, December 26, 2020 8:42 PM (three days ago) bookmarkflaglink

is that what you found absurd?

oscar bravo, Tuesday, 29 December 2020 15:37 (three years ago) link

It is and I was aware that was the initial response

Cheese flavoured Momus (wins), Tuesday, 29 December 2020 15:41 (three years ago) link

i apologise

oscar bravo, Tuesday, 29 December 2020 15:41 (three years ago) link

thread has me rooting for bob dylan to die so we can move on

na (NA), Tuesday, 29 December 2020 15:42 (three years ago) link

If it’s an absurd response (it is) then it follows that it isn’t “elitist” to say so, and we still end up at “wtf is wrong with you lmao”

xp np!

Cheese flavoured Momus (wins), Tuesday, 29 December 2020 15:43 (three years ago) link

col Musto in the Obituary thread with the fatal neglect

stylish but illegal (Simon H.), Tuesday, 29 December 2020 15:45 (three years ago) link

As though we're supposed to know who Musto or Alig is lol. Someone in the obituary thread who not everyone has heard of? Just doesn't happen.

Eggbreak Hotel (Tom D.), Tuesday, 29 December 2020 15:45 (three years ago) link

Let us honor the memory of Michael Alig with a multi-day argument about whether Musto is famous or not.

jmm, Tuesday, 29 December 2020 15:46 (three years ago) link

Not the end of year clusterfuck I was expecting, but I'll take it.

pomenitul, Tuesday, 29 December 2020 15:46 (three years ago) link

Yeah, but everyone knew who Jim McLean was.

Dan Worsley, Tuesday, 29 December 2020 15:47 (three years ago) link

Our next instalment better be titled 'Rolling Aggressively Anti-Intellectual Obituary Thread: 2021'.

pomenitul, Tuesday, 29 December 2020 15:48 (three years ago) link

Well, we could go back to individual rip threads

Mark G, Tuesday, 29 December 2020 15:48 (three years ago) link

It's just not the same without Shakey.

pomenitul, Tuesday, 29 December 2020 15:49 (three years ago) link

pomenitul, Tuesday, 29 December 2020 15:50 (three years ago) link

Googled him. Appears he made fake RIP threads or something, which no one with any sense would give a shit about.

Evan, Tuesday, 29 December 2020 15:52 (three years ago) link

I keep thinking of Morbs whenever there's a British TV celebrity who no one with any sense should give a fuck about is memorialized on this thread, though he usually held his tongue until there were two in a row.

Alba, Tuesday, 29 December 2020 15:52 (three years ago) link

Man, has any actual decedent in 2020 received as much commentary itt as Michael Musto? Grade A ILX right here, I tell you.

Fake Muosto!

Dog Heavy Manners (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 29 December 2020 15:55 (three years ago) link

I read that as "decadent" at first. Fitting tribute?

Mark G, Tuesday, 29 December 2020 15:56 (three years ago) link

I have the sense that I am a parody of myself when I post an obit for someone who appeared as a background actor in one episode of Compact.

I now realise that not everyone understands that not everyone shares their own personal knowledge, which probably belongs on the "things you were shockingly old when you learned" thread or more likely the hypothetical "how the fuck did they get to this age thinking that was true" thread.

pedantly admonishment (aldo), Tuesday, 29 December 2020 16:00 (three years ago) link

not I obit goes by where I don't feel like I'm smarter than everyone else on here

pomenitul, Tuesday, 29 December 2020 16:02 (three years ago) link

It's Musto on Alig
But it's over now
It just had to had to be googled
But I'm lost ITT somehow

Evan, Tuesday, 29 December 2020 16:02 (three years ago) link

We need rip threads for famous ppl and rip threads for posting rips for ppl nobody has ever heard of

And an rip clusterfuck thread for disagreements about which thread each ripped person belongs in

And a poll thread to decide each time

Itll be good

spruce springclean (darraghmac), Tuesday, 29 December 2020 16:05 (three years ago) link

The poll threads could called

Tell me quick
Aint that a rip
In which thread

spruce springclean (darraghmac), Tuesday, 29 December 2020 16:06 (three years ago) link

The more obits the merrier, imo.

jmm, Tuesday, 29 December 2020 16:06 (three years ago) link

Looking into Michael Alig, I didn't recognize his name (am bad with names) but I'm pretty sure I know his story from some recentish telling of it and it's now bugging me where that was. Definitely wasn't the Macaulay Culkin movie and I don't think it was the Glory Daze documentary either.

Alba, Tuesday, 29 December 2020 16:26 (three years ago) link

A reminder that Michael Musto is not dead (afaik).
