i owned the eve 6 s/t in middle school and played it almost every day and i could reel out most of the lyrics on command. i listened to it yesterday for probably the first time in 20 years. it's not embarrassing!

afaict max collins has been tweeting like this for months and it was only really picked up on when he tweeted he was a virgin when he wrote "inside out"

i mean it could still be a marketing thing, they put out a live performance of the first album this year, but also this is eve 6 we're talking about

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Tuesday, 22 December 2020 16:18 (three years ago) link

this one is my favorite

we stayed in standard tuning through the early two thousands and therefore fell into obscurity

i think the eve 6 one is real but dionne is 100% being social media managed. as are most "good at twitter" public figures. i am happy to be no fun

I have no clue what the Eve 6 guy was like before this, in fact I know nothing about them at all

IMO, that’s why this doesn’t even generate the same interest as, say, when the Smash Mouth guy occasionally tweets something that gets traction... Eve 6 is just a band name to me, so seeing them go all Try-Hard Twitter Engagement™ feels particularly shrug-worthy (tho I guess the “standard tuning” tweet is clever).

didn't goo goo dolls like using weird tunings in their songs too (not that they persisted much longer than eve 6 in the zeitgeist tbh)

anyway please block this guy's account and stop checking up on it

lol at him needing to openly mock his own band's sole significant hit (which is admittedly deserving of mockery) to get a few likes on twitter. if all goes well perhaps it'll help them secure a slot on a nostalgia tour with fastball and cake

I mean this is basically the era of "Songs that would occupy Mix CDs made by Teenaged Me, because I wasn't going to actually bother and purchase the entire album for one good song, and I was desperately trying to get into popular music but had no interest in Boy Bands, Rap, or Nu Metal". And over the span of several CDs, I ended up having FOUR separate Eve 6 songs on them!

Lifehouse always had secret "we formed in our church's youth group" vibes to me, but maybe it's because the singer reminded me of a kid from my church.

formative moment for 12 year old me: after months of listening to hanging by a moment on WHFS in that monumental summer of 2001 (nickelback's first hit! sum 41! alien ant farm! staind! FUEL!!!) - realizing just how bad of a singer the guy is after they started splicing in live performances from that year's HFStival

i realized then and there that we weren't entering a new golden age of recorded music. we were so close

lifehouse was definitely a 'secret youth group' kind of band that quickly revealed itself to be basically adult contemporary BUT "hanging by a moment" is a classic honestly, most of the 'authentic' alt rock bands could never
