I can't remember Ahsoka's exact reasoning for not training Grogu but then hooking him up with Jedi Tinder. It was too dangerous, but maybe some crazy jedi will do it anyway? And then it won't be dangerous? Or it will still be dangerous but not her fault?
― kniphofia face (Sufjan Grafton), Monday, 21 December 2020 06:01 (three years ago) link
Or she knew Luke had mastered his own shit and would have to train Grogu but also didn't want to give Mando Luke's cell directly bc maybe Grogu ain't Luke's type?
― kniphofia face (Sufjan Grafton), Monday, 21 December 2020 06:02 (three years ago) link
Yeah, I think she said something like she couldn't handle training him but maybe a Jedi master could.
― good karma, my aesthetic (morrisp), Monday, 21 December 2020 06:04 (three years ago) link
maybe Luke talked to Ahsoka on the "surviving Jedi Zoom" and she mentioned he came by and Luke said "great, how's the training going", and she said "oh I'm not training him, it's too big a risk" and Luke said "the fuck? you just let him go?" and Ahsoka asked him to stop questioning her decision making and he said that it's every Jedi's job to question decision-making and Ahsoka asked 'well what the fuck does that mean' and Luke said "that when a Jedi does something patently stupid, other Jedi should call them on it" and Ahsoka said Luke was being toxic and Luke said 'just tell me who had Grogu, i'll find him' and farted and left

in reality tho he summoned those Jedi on that mountain and I guess that made them know where he was after he got kidnapped or something, like a Jedi GPS

Ahsoka was saying his attachment to Mando presented the same liability I mentioned just now - which is also demonstrated by the moment in season 1 when he chokes Cara for arm wrestling Mando - but she gives him a tip just to fulfill her part of the deal and make the kid somebody else’s problem. Ethics are tough!
― sound of scampo talk to me (El Tomboto), Monday, 21 December 2020 06:09 (three years ago) link
see that is my point. It seems like Jedi move should have been something like kill mando and sign Grogu up for macaron classes.

Just watched this again (my wife had been doing something productive on Friday night, and wanted to see it now). It’s so good. A nice detail is how the clone scientists guy’s ear is visibly singed the next time you see him, after Cara Dune shoots it off (guess that guy just stays in the shuttle for the rest of the action?). One thing I don’t get is how the dark troopers seem to have trooper babies when they’re out floating in space... there couldn’t have been more than 20 of them originally.
― good karma, my aesthetic (morrisp), Monday, 21 December 2020 07:02 (three years ago) link
The shots of the TIE fighters being deployed were also pretty awesome. I’m intrigued by those transparent ray shields(?) which just sort of keep outer space out, but stormtroopers can fall to their deaths through them and the dark troopers can breach them from the other direction. Feels more sci-fi than Star Wars usually gets, but I imagine there’s a precedent somewhere.
― good karma, my aesthetic (morrisp), Monday, 21 December 2020 07:07 (three years ago) link
Using weak shields to keep atmospheric pressure is definitely a thing - I wasn’t surprised by it, but you’d need a poster with the eidetic memory of sic to find the specific Clone Wars / Rebels episodes where it’s shown. There were definitely at least 36 Death Troopers in that chamber imo. “Platoon” (as Gideon calls it) is a flexible measure of unit strength but wiki says it’s usually 50 and can even be 100. I was in the air force, we didn’t use the word platoon except to describe things we were going to transport / drop munitions on.
― sound of scampo talk to me (El Tomboto), Monday, 21 December 2020 07:18 (three years ago) link
Agreed about the TIE deployments - a fun little thing about this show is all the ways they’ve shown the practical logistics of the universe at smaller scales. There’s no huge fleets appearing out of nowhere or AT-ATs showing up like they got teleported to the surface, everything is explicable (and usually explained, visually) within the confines of a couple of camera shots.
― sound of scampo talk to me (El Tomboto), Monday, 21 December 2020 07:25 (three years ago) link
What I’d like to see next is the Star Wars equivalent of when a medium-sized military vessel runs up against the SW equivalent of a tanker or a container ship - commercial fleets run so much more tonnage than militaries IRL and we’ve only ever seen relatively small cargo ships in all the content to date.

a fun little thing about this show is all the ways they’ve shown the practical logistics of the universe at smaller scalesVery true / interesting point...My wife thought it was rude that Mando didn’t bother to give any tips to the others on the bridge, when they were preparing to face the Dark Troopers (“Go for the neck area!,” or whatever). He really clammed up there. Actually, considering he was in possession of the fabled Darksaber, maybe they would’ve had a fighting chance? It’s not clear to me how powerful that weapon actually is (beyond the fact that it obviously cannot cut beskar, but neither can a regular lightsaber I guess).
― good karma, my aesthetic (morrisp), Monday, 21 December 2020 07:40 (three years ago) link
He could’ve cut through a handful of them but then one would break his arm off at the elbow and the “fighting chance” would be lying on the floor while they all got shot up and/or beat to death. It’s pretty clear you need to bring some Force shoving and lightsaber deflection game to a Death Trooper party.

Jumping back to the conversation about season 3, the post this morning on the official Star Wars Instagram account strongly implies Book of Boba Fett is a wholly unique series and there will still be a Mandalorian season 3 next fall as well.
― soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 21 December 2020 13:49 (three years ago) link
To be clear, the Instagram post doesn’t imply anything about Mandalorian, but rather officially announced Book of Boba Fett as its own show.

Would be a strange decision if they drop The Mandalorian after two seasons and they ask audiences to forget Baby Yogurt et al. Then again...attention spans are easily satisfied with new and everchanging content nowadays and Disney are gazillionaires, not me. Whadda I know?

― silverfish, Monday, 21 December 2020 16:46 (three years ago) link
Favreau clarified it on Good Morning America today -- The Book of Boba Fett is a separate series, and production on S3 of Mandalorian follow after they're done with production on this new one. So third season will be sometime in 2022.

Well there was a part of me that did very much want that neverending-until-it-did arc just because I loved the sweet dynamic between the two. The small moments throughout both seasons are pretty amazing, but in turn that helped sell the parting all the more.

the darksaber stuff made me think we were headed for darksaber-powered-up mando kills the troopers. season ends with mando healing in a hospital. The doctor just got blood test lab results -- mandochlorians! mando trains Grogu himself.

What's next for Mando, go and become king of Mandalore?
Well if you want to go really dark(saber), note that the Boba Fett teaser demonstrates that 1) Fennec got off the ship meaning 2) Boba came back to get her. Ergo, once the debt had been paid because the Mandalorian got the Child again (and then immediately gave him away), Fennec killed everyone else just standing around on the bridge with a thermal detonator and scooped up the darksaber and went off to do crimes with Boba Fett. Perhaps I am wrong.

The series will be executive produced by Favreau and Dave Filoni, along with helmer Robert Rodriguez, who directed the thrilling Chapter 14 (“The Tragedy”) episode in season 2.

i dunno, i'm not emotionally engaged with the Mandalorian. it was a good time! maybe they'll do something okay with it in a year! in the meantime, there's literally a half dozen shows based on this general formula on the way so I'll try each of them once or twice to see if there's any juice left in that orange.
