Can I nominate just the A Closer Look segment of Late Night With Seth Meyers, written by Sal Gentile and typically uploaded to youtube in advance of TX? It had one stand-alone broadcast episode as a prime-time half-hour during the election, too.

I would just nominate Meyers show and then vote for it with that in mind.

Like everyone else, we were stuck inside a lot this year, and with streaming further blurring the lines between theatrical movies and television features, I’ve expanded the list to include visual storytelling that I’ve enjoyed this year, regardless of format. pic.twitter.com/a8BS8jDkSs

Technology Connections (YouTube): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCy0tKL1T7w
YOLO Crystal Fantasy (Adult Swim): https://www.adultswim.com/videos/yolo-crystal-fantasy

The former is like a more technical (yet still entertaining) "The Secret Life of Machines".
The latter is recommended if you like batshit crazy Adult Swim stuff and the Rick and Morty parody "Bushworld Adventures" (also from Michael Cusack). Lots of moments made me laugh uncontrollably, but one that comes to mind is the last few seconds of "The Terry Cup" where everyone's chanting and dancing in unison while a rotoscoped guy in a Robin Hood outfit is jumping around and playing THE HELL out of a flute: https://www.adultswim.com/videos/yolo-crystal-fantasy/the-terry-cup

Given last year’s demand for more ranked ballots, here’s how I think I’d like to do the scoring this year:

If you want an unranked ballot, please note that when you submit it and I’ll give every show you nominate 8 points.

If you want a ranked ballot, please note that when you submit it and, regardless of how many shows you vote for, here’s how your ballot will be scored:

Your #1 show gets 15 points.
Your #2 show gets 15 points.
Your #3 show gets 10 points.
Your #4 show gets 10 points.
Your #5 show gets 10 points.
Your #6 show gets 5 points.
Your #7 show gets 5 points.
Your #8 show gets 5 points.
Your #9 show gets 5 point.
Your #10 show gets 5 points.
Your #11 to #20 shows get 3 points apiece.
Your #21 to #25 shows get 1 point apiece.

You can vote for as many as 25 shows but I AM ENCOURAGING YOU TO SUBMIT A BALLOT EVEN IF YOU’RE ONLY VOTING FOR THREE OR FOUR SHOWS… or even just one! If you list more than 25 shows on your ballot, I’ll ignore everything after 25.

We got over 50 votes for this poll in 2019 and, given pandemic watch habits, I think this was an even more important outlet, so I’d like an even broader slice of the ILX audience. Can we get 100 ballots?

How’s that sound?

Waco (Netflix)
A Teacher (Netflix)

clemenza, Wednesday, 30 December 2020 20:19 (three years ago) link

Scratch Waco, which is two years old--I'm right on top of new TV shows, as you can see.

clemenza, Wednesday, 30 December 2020 20:31 (three years ago) link

But the new season of Fargo (F/X) was this year.

clemenza, Wednesday, 30 December 2020 20:33 (three years ago) link

yeah but nobody else is going to vote for Fargo S4

given pandemic watch habits, I think this was an even more important outlet, so I’d like an even broader slice of the ILX audience. Can we get 100 ballots?

the problem is that fewer people are likely to be able to remember anything they watched this year

shivers me timber (sic), Wednesday, 30 December 2020 20:33 (three years ago) link

i was surprised no one nominated Fargo, but it's in there now!

the serious avant-garde universalist right now (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 31 December 2020 00:14 (three years ago) link

I think Clem was the only person in the Fargo thread not saying “this is terrible but I’m still watching” at best

shivers me timber (sic), Thursday, 31 December 2020 00:39 (three years ago) link

Can I nominate “Wayne” since no one on the planet watched YouTube Red or whatever so it only really counts now that it dropped on Amazon Prime late this year?

jjjusten, Thursday, 31 December 2020 05:35 (three years ago) link

Seems like a million years ago, but the third season of Ozark.

clemenza, Thursday, 31 December 2020 05:59 (three years ago) link

wasdnuos (abanana), Thursday, 31 December 2020 06:13 (three years ago) link

how about Worzel Gummidge (BBC) for 2020 year of impact? only one episode this year, though.

wasdnuos (abanana), Thursday, 31 December 2020 06:15 (three years ago) link

Your #1 show gets 15 points.
Your #2 show gets 15 points.
Your #3 show gets 10 points.
Your #4 show gets 10 points.
Your #5 show gets 10 points.
Your #6 show gets 5 points.
Your #7 show gets 5 points.
Your #8 show gets 5 points.
Your #9 show gets 5 point.
Your #10 show gets 5 points.
Your #11 to #20 shows get 3 points apiece.
Your #21 to #25 shows get 1 point apiece.

This is better. I'd say under this system, 18 points for a #1, then 12, 10, 8 for #s 3,4,5, then as you were. Differentiating people's top 5 placements seems important. Really what I'd favour most is 1-20 points for #s 25-6 and then going up in increments of 3 for the top 5, so 23 for 5, 26 for 4, 29 for 3, 32 for 2 and 35 for 1.

imago, Thursday, 31 December 2020 09:35 (three years ago) link

Oh and I officially un-nominate The Circle. It was 2019. I forgot because everyone's brain is screwed.

A House Through Time (BBC)

Dan Worsley, Thursday, 31 December 2020 09:43 (three years ago) link

I like how inexplicable forks' point divisions are, while also acknowledging that ppl's fine rankings are pretty arbitrary.

Gummidge was way too late to make an impact on the 2019 poll, so nominating it here seems fine. I'll be watching this week's accidental one-off sometime on NYD, hopefully.

(The three eps appeared in less than 365 days, if that helps: 26 and 27 December 2019, and Christmas Eve this year.)
