i'd say oasis is a lock to NOT get in. in america, which is all the hall of fame cares about, they're a barely remembered two-hit wonder. tommy james and the shondells, who should be in but aren't, will get in long before oasis does. which is as is should be.

The most patently ridiculous omisson from the HOF right now is Black Sabbath. Which is all the more fitting, because the old guard (Wenner, et al) angrily dismissed them for so long and STILL wants them to go away, but they are totally indestructible. Kids will be rocking out to "Iron Man" as long as this globe is spinning.

They've swiftly become my nephew's favorite band (.........and he's only eleven).

The guy who most deserves to get into the HOF but sadly will probably never is Brian Eno. If you combine all his contributions to music--keyboard player in Roxy Music, solo records, producer--he'd warrant his own WING of the entire goddamn building.

Anyway, REM, Metallica, Madonna, Run DMC and Public Enemy are the sure-thing locks from the 1980s. 1990s, you've got Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Radiohead. After that it gets a little fuzzy.

REM will definitely get in in a year or too. I'm pretty sire Coldplay will too if they keep on the way they are going. And the Pixies if their legend continues to grow - they are bigger now than they ever were first time round.

I don't understand how The Dells are in but Chic aren't. If I was in PE or Run DMC I wouldn't be ordering my tux just yet.

Actually, I bet he'll get in as a "non-performer," which would be hilarious. "Yeah he was that guy who produced Joshua Tree, so we should put him in."

Regarding hip-hop'ers, I am pretty sure Public Enemy will get in there in 5-6 years time. And probably De La Soul a few years later. Those early hip-hop'ers haven't made any albums that have made impact, and even though not everybody in the HOF is "rock", they will certainly have to be part of the rock "canon" to get in.

Didn't Ozzy say the HOF can get bent? Maybe they haven't inducted Sabbath in part because they know the dude won't show.

I'd almost think Iggy has a better chance of getting in solo than with the Stooges (or maybe as "Iggy & The Stooges") what with "Lust For Life" and all.
