I can build an analog delay pedal or fix a vintage pedal that has stopped working.

COOL.

Analog is for the birds.

And the VCM stuff you were so interested in appears on what digital effects or synths?

I use a Mac at home. I hate tcsh so I avoid the command line whenever possible. I tried to get a bunch of packages using fink but my gcc compiler links are broken and I can't be bothered to fix them. I have a liberal arts degree, like seriously, my degree says "liberal arts," no "history" or "linguistics" attached at all. I've never bothered to install SoulSeek or BitTorrent clients on my box and I pay for all my software and music.

My name is TOMBOT and I work in the IT security industry making $80,600 a year.

charltonlido (gareth), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 19:52 (nineteen years ago) link

VCN?

Heheh... I am writing something on Voltage Controlled Modulation which is why I typed "VCM." What I meant to say was "CV."

You know, not ALL file sharing is criminal. Also, the default shell changed to bash in Panther. I reccomend changing:

I used to have a crontab on a machine on my school's Solaris/IRIX mailserver that would poll my accounts on other machines and update my .plan there.

.plan writing was a HUGE phenomnenon in my college! there was even a script written to monitor people's .plans for changes.

Sadly, as people moved from pine to webmail, this has faded away

Holy Crap! Typhoon is Coming!!! :O (ex machina), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 18:09 (nineteen years ago) link

a crontab

This sounds like some alien warrior race with a carapace.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 19:24 (nineteen years ago) link

What is Crontab?

Crontab is a program that allows users to create jobs that will run at a given time.

Also, I had a crontab that scanned my mailspool for PACKAGE RECEIVING notifications and txted me :D

Holy Crap! Typhoon is Coming!!! :O (ex machina), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 19:27 (nineteen years ago) link

So crontab is pervy, then.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 19:29 (nineteen years ago) link

i still use pine sometimes

the company is feverishly working on a two-button wireless optical mouse that it intends to release.

Feverishly! hahahaha

"Oh my god! How does this work?! How do we do this?! WE'RE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS HERE, PEOPLE!"

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Thursday, 17 March 2005 07:50 (nineteen years ago) link

Insiders warned that anticipation may continue to build for months as the company perfects the product.

What. the. fuck.

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Thursday, 17 March 2005 07:55 (nineteen years ago) link

I think this all raises the question: How dumb are Mac users? I mean, if they haven't already bought a non-Apple-branded two-button mouse for their Mac?

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Thursday, 17 March 2005 07:56 (nineteen years ago) link

"Jaws will drop," said one insider.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Thursday, 17 March 2005 09:16 (nineteen years ago) link

never felt the need for two buttons, but that's because I can use my left had on the keyboard at the same time as my right is on the mouse, and I can remember a handful of standard dkey combinations.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 17 March 2005 09:17 (nineteen years ago) link

But context menus and a scroll wheel PLUS dkey combos and LH usage must be even better right?

mei (mei), Thursday, 17 March 2005 11:10 (nineteen years ago) link

Same as Ed, I don't really like using the mouse.

nathalie barefoot in the head (stevie nixed), Thursday, 17 March 2005 11:44 (nineteen years ago) link

I couldn't use the one button mouse for Unreal - so I've got this mouse now that has about 15 buttons.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Thursday, 17 March 2005 15:34 (nineteen years ago) link

I LIKEY SCROLL WHEELS.

Allyzay Dallas Multi-Pass (allyzay), Thursday, 17 March 2005 15:43 (nineteen years ago) link

Windows is pissing me off because i can't assign the shoulder buttons to my MS mouse to page up and page down.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 17 March 2005 15:47 (nineteen years ago) link

yeah that's kind of annoying. I just used the scroll all the time on my mouse instead of trying to do anything like that, it was kind of fun after a while.

Allyzay Dallas Multi-Pass (allyzay), Thursday, 17 March 2005 15:48 (nineteen years ago) link

What constitutes being smart as far as computer usage is concerned?

Is it enough to know ASP, SQL, PHP, X/HTML, CSS, Javascript, Flash/Actionscript, PhotoshopIllustratorQuark, Premier, AfterEffects and have artistic skill in and knowledge of print, web and motion graphics design?

Or does one need to creating applications to be considered smart? Because I bet a software developer would look like a fuckin' dumbass pitching ad concepts to Nike.

Eleventy-Twelve (Eleventy-Twelve), Thursday, 17 March 2005 17:05 (nineteen years ago) link

You need to know all of those things, including ad pitching.
