I said elsewhere not long ago that Ratt's 2010 album Infestation was a "didn't know they had it in them" level comeback record ignored (of course) by 99% of critics.

The only 'positive' opinions that could live up to this thread's premise are things like 'Tom MacDonald is a superlative rapper and his lyrics are on point'.

they're more inconsistent for sure, but at their peaks incubus were as good a band as fugazi

I actually checked that out based recently, surprisingly good and vintage Ratt sounding!

Based on the relative quality of their lyrics and music, I don't understand why Big K.R.I.T. isn't more popular and critically well-regarded than Kendrick Lamar or Run the Jewels.

krit probably deserves to be remembered as one of the best rappers of the early 2010s, he became unfashionable kinda quickly unfortunately

I used to utterly despise Bejar in the live setting... the tour he did with Frog Eyes (supporting "Your Blues") was one of the worst shows I've ever seen. His voice was profoundly unlikeable

I agree with this one. I don’t hate them at all and I even have some sort of respect for them, but they’re such a boring band to listen to.

I’ve known for years that The National sucked and the Taylor Swift album is further evidence of it.

The pairing makes sense though, both their music is completely flat and devoid of joy.

Sure I'm far from the first person on this thread to mention that someone not liking something isn't "controversial".

Blue Oyster Cult are a good band, but they’re so archetypal ‘70s rock band’ that I wouldn’t blame anyone to be turned off.

I don’t really see the ‘hard rock’ element overall (considering how fast things were moving in the early 70s) and tbh I can’t envisage a point where they might have had needed guitars on stage at once - Im reminded of the E Street Band with Bruce, Nils and Van Zandt - I mean, really?

Yes, Blue Oyster Cult are exceptional in a number of ways, but musical style isn't necessarily one of them. Probably my favorite thing about them is their 70's boogie rock is somehow ethereal where you'd expect it to be earthy and, well... Richard Meltzer and Patti Smith have something to do with that sometimes.

What's the conroversial opinion here? Lyricists/songwriters/svengalis (delete as you will) don't count?

I'm with you on too many guitars but tbf there are way more egregious examples of this than BOC. Like, uhh, Radiohead >:)

The lyrics in BOC are pretty important, even though they're apparently meaningless a lot of the time, they're just so disconnected and have such a distancing effect

They're also very witty
