Honestly wasn't surprised at the end to see this was one of the Robert Rodriguez ones.

super excited to see this because of that! i consider him one of the more underrated and underused directors of his generation.

That was a lot of coolness packed in to less than an hour! Also - Yo! easy with that Stun setting you jerks!

I found the fact that she wouldn't shoot the guys setting up the laser machine gun thing very frustrating.

underrated and underused directors of his generation.
is this his first work-for-hire gig since The Faculty in 1998? (Third ever after Roadracers, which is an edge case since he wrote it) Presumably he could have been used plenty if he didn't prefer to do his own stuff.

let's say "underutilized" if it feels better to you

oh wait Battle Angel Alita! all his director-for-hire gigs are sci-fi.

as i understand it, he prefers to do his own stuff out of a desire for ownership/control; a large corporation willing to entertain his creative "eccentricities" could've made him as big as Nolan imo if they chose to "utilize" him more intelligently.anyways my point is he is good.

Weird the way mandi just left his sship completely unlocked with doors open and landing ramp down no matter where he went. Noticed in episode 5 that he landed on a planet he didn't seem familiar with and just walked away leaving ramp down as though there was nothing that might explore up it.Not sure what he kept onboard though seems like mandi might be into austerity or asceticism. He also seemed to mainly stick to his driving seat do they sleep?Just would expect dome off duty quarters considering his nomadic life. A bed at least even if just a bunk or cot or something.

On the one hand, a bit more PERIL a bit too close to home for my liking.
On the other hand, Seven Samurai/Magnificent Seven potential.

i like OG SW being portrayed as "fast" by modern directors (cf fast Vader in RO)

I didn't know if the focus on Fett killing storm troopers who are prone/unarmed was setting him up as a baddie, but I guess not.

last few eps really revved my engine.
it's also draw out the gatekeepery crowd ("y'see this is REAL Star Wars kidz"), but w/e...I'm enjoying the ride a lot.
Ahshoka Tano's appearance and finding out it was Rosario Dawson was a treat.
Michael Biehn seemed like he was in a different TV show, like...that seemed like a charity gig almost.
but the Magistrate Morgan Elsbeth was pretty badass.

When is this set relative to the main film arc. I had thought it was earlier for a while but sounds like it might be slightly afterwards. Not sure what direct references there have been. Have seen pretty much all the main films but not the tv series related.

someone got really good at wielding a gaderffii while on tatooineAnd also somehow had the resources to give that sharpshooter a robot stomach(?), still has his ship, etc., but couldn't find a way to take his armor back from the other dude? This was a terrible episode IMO, just a complete bummer. Awful script (both dialogue and “plot,” such as it was). The action was dumb and didn’t feel “Star Wars”-y, whatever that means (that force field? c’mon). It felt like a cheesy syndicated sci-fi series, but not in a semi-appealing way like a few those S1 episodes. I hear that Robert Rodriguez was a "last-minute replacement" as a director, so maybe there were issues with the episode generally?

Hey guys, did you know “the Empire is back”? Yeah – a ship tipped me off, not the 30 Stormtroopers I just got done killing.

any kleptocrat with their own stash of credits could hire a couple squads of stormtroopers and shove them in some appropriated dropshipstakes some sway to have your own light cruiser

the endless discussion about how all the details of an imaginary universe either mesh correctly or contradict other imaginary details is very modern. i'm guessing it's an epiphenomenon of the general conflation of science and religion in the secularized societies. the greek myths of gods and demigods are larded with inconsistencies, but the greeks apparently didn't notice or didn't care.
