somehow "lost one" has grown on me even more since "pick up your feelings" came out

dyl, Thursday, 3 December 2020 05:13 (three years ago) link

that trailer is a little too Dove advert "everyone is beautiful" but at the same time I think if anyone can pull off the nuance and finesse required to make something more complicated and worthwhile it's Sullivan

boxedjoy, Thursday, 3 December 2020 08:15 (three years ago) link

excited for this.

heaux tales, beau tales, Holiday Inn!

fat ass deep state operative (breastcrawl), Thursday, 3 December 2020 08:54 (three years ago) link

yeah I actually don't want to celebrate any CEOs but I am still stoked for this

dyl, Thursday, 7 January 2021 05:35 (three years ago) link

It's an EP:

Just a reminder that this is in fact an EP/PROJECT! Everyone calling it an album is giving me anxiety and high blood pressure.😩 Ok...Toodles. Back to the whypipo whypipoin and getting away w it🙄

— Jazmine Sullivan (@jsullivanmusic) January 7, 2021

anyway, it's fine I guess, the best songs on it are the previously released ones :|

self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Friday, 8 January 2021 05:05 (three years ago) link

weird i must’ve misinterpreted the number of songs

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Friday, 8 January 2021 05:06 (three years ago) link

well, every other track is a spoken word interlude

self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Friday, 8 January 2021 05:09 (three years ago) link

that’ll do it

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Friday, 8 January 2021 05:14 (three years ago) link

seems like it’s a Robyn Body Talk sitch where she’ll release multiple parts throughout the year and it’ll form an album when it’s all said and done

winters (josh), Friday, 8 January 2021 08:24 (three years ago) link

jazmine I'm sorry but I removed all the interludes without listening to them, it's nothing personal

stylish but illegal (Simon H.), Friday, 8 January 2021 13:14 (three years ago) link

you wanna listen to Heaux Tales without hearing about the heaux tales

winters (josh), Friday, 8 January 2021 15:32 (three years ago) link

I like hearing Ari Lennox on this.

after three spins, Bodies /Pricetags / Girl Like Me join Pick Up Your Feelings / Lost One as particularly noteworthy. It's definitely an EP and I have high hopes more is coming. All the subtext is on the surface here, it's hella dark.

I think Pick Up Your Feelings is gonna be in my top ten for last year.

the serious avant-garde universalist right now (forksclovetofu), Friday, 8 January 2021 23:29 (three years ago) link

I was so excited to hear this when I woke up today and then I heard it

Everything's Blue In This Whorl (Raymond Cummings), Saturday, 9 January 2021 03:47 (three years ago) link

Basically there are a few great songs on this including what was previously released (per what Murgatroid said), will definitely be returning to some tracks

Everything's Blue In This Whorl (Raymond Cummings), Saturday, 9 January 2021 03:49 (three years ago) link

I was definitely expecting a bit more from this. The Other Side is absolutely gorgeous but it's the only song here that's on the same level as Pick Up Your Feelings.

kitchen person, Sunday, 10 January 2021 04:26 (three years ago) link

as a "part one" with more to come, i'm totally satisfied.

the serious avant-garde universalist right now (forksclovetofu), Sunday, 10 January 2021 05:58 (three years ago) link

perfectly good EP/project

I hope the follow-up is called Meaux Tales

boxedjoy, Monday, 11 January 2021 22:32 (three years ago) link

heaux tales, beau tales, Holiday Inn!

https://www.vulture.com/article/profile-jazmine-sullivan-heaux-tales.html

And she’s been writing Heaux Tales, her first concept album.

i mean... this is wrong? but otherwise not a bad piece. Interesting to find out her mother is a playwright.

This is a good piece of work I likely will never listen to again

Totino's Fortnite Training Room (DJP), Wednesday, 13 January 2021 16:55 (three years ago) link

this is a great record, no idea why someone wouldn't wanna listen to it again lmao

agreed; it rules

who's eric church some country dude

I don't think even jazmine can save the Worst Song Ever

Left, Friday, 5 February 2021 19:31 (three years ago) link

like jazmine, eric church is an alum of the ilm 77

he is a good artist despite the occasional self-consciousness of his rock rebel shtick

dyl, Saturday, 6 February 2021 04:10 (three years ago) link

i finally (!) listened to heaux tales and it's honestly really good, confused by the not-even-lukewarm response here

dyl, Monday, 8 February 2021 02:36 (three years ago) link

Yep, especially for regarding songwriting as something more than autobiographical plumbing

four months pass...

new single "Tragic" comes out tomorrow!

aw yeah
