i mean every stop seems to be a spaceport with a bunch of barren space around it. It's just not a very efficient galaxy.

Whatever else happens I just realised I will probably pop hard if the Slave I actually shows up in the finale.

i think the appearance of macaroons in the last episode shows anything is possible here

All good points - I just hope the "What do I do with this kid?" storyline reaches some kind of resolution, or at least takes a long detour to mix things up.

― meditate in my direction (morrisp)

The standing comparison to an existing story is Lone Wolf and Cub, and I think the show’s going to run with that. There might be a change in the status quo, but “Mando and the kid” is pretty much the premise at this point

mh, Tuesday, 1 December 2020 18:18 (three years ago) link

Would be cool if we could see some stories examining the complicity of Mando indoctrinating an innocent in a philosophical, hellish tale of revenge.
Sadly, probably not. Can you imagine?

Nhex, Tuesday, 1 December 2020 18:22 (three years ago) link

I love the charmingly episodic nature of the show, I just hope that it doesn't become episodic in service of a broader arc. It's the mythology that bogs down so much of the (particularly more recent) Star Wars franchise. The most refreshing aspect of this show has been that it's seemingly content to amble from place to place and situation to situation, and only gave cursory lip/fan service to the Big Picture. Regardless, it's not like this most recent episode was some big exposition dump or anything like that. It was still pretty low-key, which I appreciated. I just hope it stays that way, because every time they introduce or allude to some big bad I quietly think to myself, please, just this once, let's not do that.

i completely agree with the Mando and the Kid assessment and direction but

episodic TV where characters go from one place to another, with a general goal that may get modified as it goes, and in each episode they help people with their Personal Problems along the way

made me realize this is just quantum leap in space with baby grogurt as Al

Perhaps they can draw inspiration from the story arc of BJ and the Bear.

super excited to see this because of that! i consider him one of the more underrated and underused directors of his generation.

I found the fact that she wouldn't shoot the guys setting up the laser machine gun thing very frustrating.

underrated and underused directors of his generation.

is this his first work-for-hire gig since The Faculty in 1998? (Third ever after Roadracers, which is an edge case since he wrote it) Presumably he could have been used plenty if he didn't prefer to do his own stuff.

as i understand it, he prefers to do his own stuff out of a desire for ownership/control; a large corporation willing to entertain his creative "eccentricities" could've made him as big as Nolan imo if they chose to "utilize" him more intelligently.
anyways my point is he is good.

Weird the way mandi just left his sship completely unlocked with doors open and landing ramp down no matter where he went. Noticed in episode 5 that he landed on a planet he didn't seem familiar with and just walked away leaving ramp down as though there was nothing that might explore up it.
Not sure what he kept onboard though seems like mandi might be into austerity or asceticism. He also seemed to mainly stick to his driving seat do they sleep?
Just would expect dome off duty quarters considering his nomadic life. A bed at least even if just a bunk or cot or something.

Boba causing an entire platoon of Stormtroopers to retreat in terror all by himself was pretty funny

On the one hand, a bit more PERIL a bit too close to home for my liking.

On the other hand, Seven Samurai/Magnificent Seven potential.

i like OG SW being portrayed as "fast" by modern directors (cf fast Vader in RO)

Compared to the half-speed saber fight between an elder Obi Wan and Vader, I'm glad they made that choice

Was that the first use of 'stun' since OG Star Wars

I didn't know if the focus on Fett killing storm troopers who are prone/unarmed was setting him up as a baddie, but I guess not.
