I've been boycotting NFL for a while now but I think I'm gonna have to tune in to that game. The Saints are starting Taysom Hill, who has never thrown a touchdown pass in the NFL.
― Fetchboy, Sunday, 29 November 2020 02:22 (three years ago) link
I got em as 17.5 point underdogs. This may be the dumbest bet I’ve made this year but Saints may not even score 17
― frogbs, Sunday, 29 November 2020 19:47 (three years ago) link
the jets had 25 offensive drives against the dolphins this year
they went 5-for-30 on third-down conversions and scored three points

Yay Miami.
Unfortunately one of my asshole friends spoiled it (the Orlando City soccer playoff match was same time and I taped the Fins to watch after and told him not to spoil it. Fuckin dick)
Brownie! You're 8-3!

Brady's season high for INTs is only 14. He's at 11 right now

taysom hill barely put up better numbers than a practice squad wide receiver

yeah but he's not the starter

hill is starting now right?

perhaps I should clarify - he's the worst QB I've ever seen a team willingly make their #1 starter
― frogbs, Monday, 30 November 2020 04:46 (three years ago) link
the whole thing is so odd, I felt like Jameis was a great dice roll for the Saints with Brees on his last legs, he has his problems but the high end raw talent is there, he's only 26. he has the arm to run a Brees offense and I thought maybe Payton would be able to help him tighten up decision making and interceptions.

They’re paying hill a ton of money so I’m sure they want to use him. Also they won both starts pretty handily

ravens-steelers postponed a third time
adam schefter thinks the NFL is doing a great job
― mookieproof, Monday, 30 November 2020 22:24 (three years ago) link
so is there evidence that the Ravens were following the 'rules and protocols', lest the NFL be accused of being arbitrary re: the Broncos scenario
― Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Monday, 30 November 2020 22:29 (three years ago) link
also why don't they move it to the 'optional week 18'
apparently the ravens followed the protocols properly? oddly, this hasn't resulted in revisiting them, as they clearly aren't working
at some point you'd think some level of pennsylvania government would tell the scurvy-ass ravens to stay out of their jurisdiction, but i guess pittsburgh cares more about pro football than santa clara county

even if we all die this season must continue and it has nothing to do with the fact that the Browns are 8-3* and everything to do with the fact that this country needs football to see us through these uncertain times
*it has everything to do with the fact that the Browns 8-3
― a certain derecho (brownie), Monday, 30 November 2020 22:41 (three years ago) link

NFL has been a clown show under Goodell, maybe if we ever get a real commissioner this league'll straighten out.
not that Tagliabue didn't do his fucked share of things

my Fins being 7-4 (and actually having to beat playoff contenders to do it) has raised my spirits a bit, but the league is going to have a shit ton of problems on their hands if they keep mishandling COVID
God forbid the season can't be pushed back!
The Super Bowl in March sounds pretty good (that's Baker Mayfield's favorite month, because it signals renewal).

can we ban the NFC East from sending a team to the playoffs

It's kinda neat that literally every game in that division has playoff implications.

Dalton's back!
my mother is a Giants fan and she has kinda stopped watching them a) cos they don't air the games here and she doesn't know how to watch pirate feeds, and b) they're 'terrible', but it's like....somehow they're in first place, so they could be one of teh first teams to have fans ignoring them due to how terrible they are despite them vying for an undeserved playoff spot
― Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Monday, 30 November 2020 23:25 (three years ago) link
I think a lot of smart bettors were going big on the Giants when the odds were a lot longer
― frogbs, Monday, 30 November 2020 23:31 (three years ago) link
i'm going to assume that no team to start 0-5 or 1-7 has ever made the playoffs, let alone won a division

1992 Chargers started 0-4 and finished 11-5, but yeah I don't think anybody did it after starting 0-5!

This is the worst season I can remember. Every team seems legit bad. Even the Chiefs if not for Mahomes and Hill don't seem that impressive to me. Yet, the meta stories have been really interesting. I find myself enjoying the podcasts and talk shows more entertaining than the games. I half wonder if there is going to be some kind of mass player walk-out and the season will be canceled before the playoffs. Even if nothing like that happens, in most fans' minds there's going to be a huge asterisk next to every stat from 2020.
Also, I hope the Bears fire everybody.
― beard papa, Tuesday, 1 December 2020 19:14 (three years ago) link
someone was spreading rumors that the ravens players might simply refuse to play tomorrow, which would be v. interesting
― mookieproof, Tuesday, 1 December 2020 19:30 (three years ago) link
idk I'm pretty impressed by the Chiefs, they've got the one offense where you just keep throwing your hands up going "can't do anything about that". I do get what you're saying though. every year there's one utterly unconvincing team that goes 11-5 and loses by 25 in the playoffs. this year there's like 6 of them. idk what to make of the 10-0 Steelers either, I don't see why they've been so dominating this year.
― frogbs, Tuesday, 1 December 2020 20:12 (three years ago) link
steelers have played an extremely weak schedule and came close to losing to several terrible teams
but i guess their defense is pretty good
― mookieproof, Tuesday, 1 December 2020 21:00 (three years ago) link
yeah Chiefs are solid. their game against the Raiders proved that IMO.
― Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 1 December 2020 21:07 (three years ago) link
I'm not sold on the Steelers being "undefeated" good. This isn't the best Tomlin Steelers team. but in a year where you have no preseason, if you're a squad with relative continuity at coaching and in your sexy positions, and you can emerge 4-0 after the first quarter of your season, you could then play about as well as an 11-5 team from then on out (good-to-great, not amazing) and technically still be undefeated.
they will eventually lose one though.
Jets, otoh, are definitely winless level bad
― Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 1 December 2020 21:09 (three years ago) link
I'll stan for my Dolphins, though. Our last two playoff teams, one of them was purely due to a gimmick (the wildcat offense who protected the football well), and 2016, I can't even tell you how that team made the playoffs other than the sheer will of Ryan Tannehill and a few skill positions.
this year, it's the defense. they're ball hawks, they generate good pressure, they cover downfield well, and really it's just the linebackers who are the weak link (and even there, Van Noy and Van Ginkel are good, they just struggle with coverage across middle of the field).
