He thought during the filming of Star Wars that he'd get to rerecord his own lines (because the helmet obscured everything) and figured out after the production team fucked off back to LA - as a result he'd improvise some of his lines for the next two.

I heard an obit on BBC WS earlier where they were saying he worked very hard on the voice and was very upset when they decided to mute him for J E Jones.

when you saw one set of footprints, that was when Dave wasn't there when you crossed the road.
