call all destroyer, Thursday, 19 November 2020 18:40 (three years ago) link

Just watched a clip of Windhorst explaining that the Bogdan contract debacle is actually just misdirection to skirt tampering accusations and repercussions (I guess a sign and trade can't officially be put together till free agency actually opens? Hadn't thought about it that way but that makes sense). Intel that Bogdan is excited to sign with the Bucks is supposedly accurate - this is is just their way of establishing plausible deniability that this trade was worked out before they were allowed to do so.

They really need to figure out some way to modify the tampering rules so that they more accurately reflect the reality of what all the teams are seemingly doing all the time. I have no idea what that would look like though.

Haven't noticed it discussed here, apologies for the redundancy if I missed it.

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Thursday, 19 November 2020 21:52 (three years ago) link

das a lot a oubre

Golden State tax bill is currently $66M

The addition of Kelly Oubre would see it increase to $134M

$14.4M of Oubre + $68M in taxes= $82.4M

lag∞n, Thursday, 19 November 2020 22:03 (three years ago) link

eek (cld still do a sign n trade)

Celtics’ Gordon Hayward has opted out of his $34M deal for the 2020-21 season and will become a free agent, sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium.

ciderpress, Thursday, 19 November 2020 22:16 (three years ago) link

lacob really putting his money where his mouth is. hes always said hed do it but we're seeing it now.

Spottie, Thursday, 19 November 2020 22:32 (three years ago) link

Wave Papi!!
Just assuming Presti got 2 1sts in the deal at this point.

Fetchboy, Thursday, 19 November 2020 22:36 (three years ago) link

Chad Ford reported the same thing about the bogdanovic deal, he thinks the nba taking picks is on the table as punishment

Matt Armstrong, Thursday, 19 November 2020 23:04 (three years ago) link

Hope Windhorst is right, Bogdan really would make this a better team than last year. OTOH I see they just waived Ersan and he was part of the deal so who knows

frogbs, Thursday, 19 November 2020 23:09 (three years ago) link

The NBA has opened an investigation of the reported transaction involving Milwaukee and Sacramento that was to send Bogdan Bogdanovic to the Bucks via sign-and-trade after Friday's scheduled start of free agency, @NYTSports has learned

— Marc Stein (@TheSteinLine) November 20, 2020

So much for "evading tampering investigations" lol

lol

lag∞n, Friday, 20 November 2020 00:17 (three years ago) link

When this was splashed all over the media as a done deal based on sources in a position to confirm it, I'm sure there were plenty of GMs who phoned NBA league HQ and complained bitterly about the Bucks and Kings breaking the rules. And you know it wasn't the Kings who let the cat out of the bag and trumpeted the deal as loudly as possible. The Bucks must have felt they had to preemptively scare away any suitors for Giannis, no matter what.

The Solace of Fortitude (Aimless), Friday, 20 November 2020 00:23 (three years ago) link

i doubt it was a purposeful leak by either side

J0rdan S., Friday, 20 November 2020 00:27 (three years ago) link

it's a really weird situation. like, lowe and windhorst were talking about it so openly the day before the draft and i think they both just shrugged and said "hey, it's a crazy compressed calendar, i guess we're not really doing tampering this year." it seems like the bucks and kings were operating under that assumption and someone else disagreed?

the people who are getting fucked are irsan ilyasova, who went from a $7M contract for next season to no nba job, and robin lopez, who declined a $5M option because he was probably told he might be in this trade.

Crazy that the thunder got a first round pick for Oubre after hearing that he was actually a negative asset on ILH

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 20 November 2020 03:11 (three years ago) link

lol matt nobody said that

call all destroyer, Friday, 20 November 2020 03:17 (three years ago) link

also the warriors have to be a bottom-10 team for that pick to convey which is in play but it's not exactly an ironclad first

call all destroyer, Friday, 20 November 2020 03:19 (three years ago) link

Really weird thing I’m seeing is this idea that Dennis Schroeder brings toughness to a team

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 20 November 2020 17:01 (three years ago) link

maybe hes been storing it up

lag∞n, Friday, 20 November 2020 17:10 (three years ago) link

Indiana continues to explore sign-and-trade pathways to try acquire Gordon Hayward from Boston, league sources say

The Knicks, as covered here yesterday, remain a suitor for Hayward with their salary-cap space

lol anthony davis just torturing the lakers for sport

ESPN Sources: Anthony Davis is on course to return to the Lakers, but don't expect a formal commitment in the immediate hours and days after free agency opens. Davis will take time to consider the structure and length of a new max contract. https://t.co/nHBQfBGwJq

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 20 November 2020 18:13 (three years ago) link

I feel like the pacers would have to make another move if they trade Turner for hayward. But maybe they make TJ Warren a smallball 4?

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 20 November 2020 18:14 (three years ago) link

everyone is saying their coach is a smallball type, tho mb the celtics cld send a bigman back

lag∞n, Friday, 20 November 2020 18:16 (three years ago) link

enes kanter is good at rebounds and wld look great in yellow!

lag∞n, Friday, 20 November 2020 18:17 (three years ago) link

bigball

ciderpress, Friday, 20 November 2020 18:18 (three years ago) link

getting myles turner for a player who doesn't want to be in boston anyway seems like a real boon for the celtics

J0rdan S., Friday, 20 November 2020 18:23 (three years ago) link

i agree that it would be good even if hayward is the clearly better player of the two

lag∞n, Friday, 20 November 2020 18:24 (three years ago) link

i tire of his antics (being injured all the time, having lame vibes)

lag∞n, Friday, 20 November 2020 18:25 (three years ago) link

tho if they do make a trade i could easily see dipo coming back instead as ainge is very much in the dont pay for centers camp, which tbh is reasonable, but dipos injury/contract situation is very dicey, also youd just be adding him to the celtics logjam on the wing which is basically haywards problem

lag∞n, Friday, 20 November 2020 18:28 (three years ago) link

turner's salary is pretty reasonable & he will prob maintain trade value. i also think he can play in the playoffs -- he's not a huge impact player but for a team like boston that has more than enough on offense, his ability to protect the rim and space the floor would be pretty useful. i thought he was pretty good in the first round vs the heat

J0rdan S., Friday, 20 November 2020 18:34 (three years ago) link

yeah imo he wld be a great fit and has the celtics mindtype
