The Man From Clover Grove, 1975

Wow, the Dove Foundation certainly loved that movie

synopsis from imdb

A poor farmer is always inventing things. A lot of them don't work, but the toys he makes brings joy to the children at the local orphanage. It is a very good movie.

man that looks bad. Glad they still found a way to work in a dodge charger police chase even though it's about an inventor bringing toys that don't work to an orphanage

trivia

The movie's closing credits dedication read: "This picture is dedicated to the forgotten children in our world".

getting depressing "the B plot from Hello, Dolly" vibes from that

what? it's clearly everything a motion picture can be

THE BIGGEST BLOOMIN' ONION OF THE YEAR!

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 28 November 2020 15:31 (three years ago) link

c'mon, that's clearly an English movie. Mr Steele will not be encountering American food in it.

huge rant (sic), Saturday, 28 November 2020 20:09 (three years ago) link

Here he is in the US that year, though, with a typical American dance partner:

What Comes Around, 1985

Not only Directed by Jerry Reed, Will Oldham appears as the younger version of Bo Hopkins' character.

Also: Reed/Hopkins/Corbin=Good Ol' Boy Hat Trick!

Love the tag line for What Comes Around.

pplains, Tuesday, 1 December 2020 10:13 (three years ago) link

Almost as good as the tag line for Off the Mark

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Tuesday, 1 December 2020 16:56 (three years ago) link

(referring to the full tag line, including both top and bottom of poster, natch)

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Tuesday, 1 December 2020 16:56 (three years ago) link

Better one for Off the Mark would've been " Off base... and missing the mark."

From the wiki synopsis:

Meanwhile, a Mafia war starts brewing between the Racconi family and the Da Vincis (the family, not the painter).

White Lightning is an okay movie but def not as exciting as that poster would make it seem... I don't really remember any police-car explosions for example. For a while Burt Reynolds is wearing the EXACT same style of blue snap-button cowboy shirt that I thrifted ages ago and wear to all manner of fancy occasions, so that was cool. The main thing the film's lacking is Jerry Reed's fantastic theme song from the sequel.

I have seen this film, and the poster does not mention the minor but pivotal role of David Hasselhoff as star jock "Boner"

seen this film

Moore, Mason, Perkins. Add Michael Caine and this would be the ultimate 70s "international thriller."

Langdon Alger Stole the Highlights (cryptosicko), Saturday, 12 December 2020 20:43 (three years ago) link

Poster makes that look way more amazing than it probably is.

chap, Sunday, 13 December 2020 01:09 (three years ago) link

Forgot about that movie.

Robert Gotopieces (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 13 December 2020 01:27 (three years ago) link

Poster makes that look way more amazing than it probably is.

Absolutely otm, but it's a dece enough thriller. The linked US poster sets the tone better, at the expense of Moore's anti-Bondian asexuality.
