the wizards would clearly win it seeing as they would be acquiring the player who isn't coming off of double bone spur removal/achilles tear surgery

interesting tone to some of this lesser tier reporting re the celtics...
The Boston Celtics reportedly wanted Jrue Holiday; “Danny Ainge was throwing Kemba at everybody trying to get the picks for Jrue Holiday.” (via @talkhoops). pic.twitter.com/B8jvnVDWxv— Hoop Central (@TheHoopCentral) November 17, 2020
While the Nets & Sixers are believed to be frontrunners for James Harden, Boston Celtics are making a late push for Harden. They are trying to flip Kemba Walker and Gordon Hayward for picks and young assets that would appeal to Houston, frantically.— 👑📍Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson, M.A. (@ScoopB) November 17, 2020

he was fine. more to the point is that you need line up flexibility in the playoffs. 5 man line ups look nice on paper but that's not how playoff series actually play out. the bucks last year had no moves to make beyond cycling thru wes matthews, donte divicenzo and george hill hoping someone could give them 5 positive minutes. you need 8 quality players to make it thru the playoffs.

they gotta hope they can get some half way playable cheap vets basically

tho tbh their problems maybe be deeper than that
yeah i dunno seems like they should have been able to do it with giannis and middleton and other dudes, bledsoe was just a very wrong choice of other dude
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 18 November 2020 00:53 (three years ago) link
and now they're giving up on the concept of other dudes entirely
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 18 November 2020 00:54 (three years ago) link
everyone will just be like "well you can't blame them for doing it" & i guess ultimately that is true but building a roster as a hostage negotiation just isn't what successful franchises do, imo. the margins for them will be insanely thing -- hardcapped, legitimately only have 5 playable guys on their roster, no draft picks to use in trades. they're assuming full health and a near perfect run of signings on the minimum/buyout market
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 18 November 2020 00:55 (three years ago) link

I can't tell my arse from my elbow with this draft - just crept up so quickly. Hope Spurs grab someone that can stretch the floor and be a plus on D.

Thanks, Call! Looks comprehensive - appreciate it! Will get up to speed for draft night.
Who do you like the look of?
On a side note - does anyone else think Suns should have been taken a bigger swing at Covington? The Chris Paul move seems very "win now" orientated and Cov seems like the most complementary piece available for that roster.
― knowing for certain the first touch of the light will finish you (fionnland), Wednesday, 18 November 2020 02:19 (three years ago) link
the suns arent done making moves is the talk here in phx.
― Spottie, Wednesday, 18 November 2020 02:31 (three years ago) link
i don't think phx could have responsibly beaten that very aggressive portland offer for covington. there are a lot of players who could help them, tho when they decided to execute the cp3 trade before using cap space my assumption was that they were planning to just bring back saric and maybe baynes. are there different rumors out there?
draftwise i don't go super deep but of the projected top 10 guys i feel like okongwu and halliburton have pretty high floors and will be good nba players. it's a scary draft to have a high pick.
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 18 November 2020 02:34 (three years ago) link
yeah, its weird but if you're picking like 5-15 or so you should feel pretty good.
― discourse stu (m bison), Wednesday, 18 November 2020 02:36 (three years ago) link
of the "top 3" (ball, wiseman, edwards) wiseman is the only 1 i feel good about. still dont know how i feel about deni.
― discourse stu (m bison), Wednesday, 18 November 2020 02:37 (three years ago) link
question for the room: are we doing a draft zoom
― discourse stu (m bison), Wednesday, 18 November 2020 02:45 (three years ago) link
they want saric back for sure. he really turned it up 2nd half of last season and looked great in the bubble too. baynes is unknown but im sure theyd like them both back at the right price with saric being the higher priority.
as far as the draft i dont usually pay a ton of attention but all the experts seem to be all over the map. hoping the dubs can trade that pick for the right package and if not we'll really find out what kind of player evaluation they have now. their draft record post jerry west is not great.
― Spottie, Wednesday, 18 November 2020 02:48 (three years ago) link
trade for aldridge
― discourse stu (m bison), Wednesday, 18 November 2020 02:49 (three years ago) link
xxp yeah i don't think wiseman is likely to bust at all, it's more like how high do you pick him and what do you think he will ultimately be?
deni is interesting. the concerns (can't shoot, no discernible elite skill) and the pros (hooper, plus defender, good size and moves pretty well) are those of a guy i'd much rather take at like #10 than #4 or wherever he's being mocked.

i'm locked in for the anthony edwards experience
"To be honest," he says, "I can't watch basketball."He retells the story about the first time he dunked and how it signaled to him that he was talented and could accomplish something he might not have been able to in football, which was his first love. So that's the direction he went, simple as that, hanging up his cleats. "That's all I needed to see," he says.So when after that did he get into basketball?"I'm still not really into it," he says. "I love basketball, yeah. It's what I do."He's not entirely convincing. He says if he were drafted by the NFL tomorrow, he'd let basketball go. "Because you can do anything on the field," he explains. "You can spike the ball. You can dance. You can do all type of disrespectful stuff." In the NBA, he says, "you can't do any of that. You'll get fined."

I think I like Haliburton out of Iowa State for the Hawks. Honestly I haven't dug into this years draft that much, but he sounds like the perfect guy to back up Trae. Plus the nickname Dick Cheney Haliburton rolls right off the tongue.
