Debuting in 1988 as a self-released 8xCassette boxset. Chapter Eleven collects the solo recordings (1976 - 1987) from one of the earliest members of the US Industrial Noise scene, coalescing a wide swath of influences and culling experimental techniques into inventive new terrain. Carefully remastered from the original tapes, this deluxe reissue is a long-awaited rescue from obscurity.

I don't know if it's necessarily "awesome," but I do think it has a melancholic beauty to it--I put an album of improvised multi-layered acoustic music (and experimental electronic reconstructions of same) that I did when I was 20 up on Bandcamp. The more important thing is any money folks pay for it is being doubled and donated to bail funds, mutual aid funds, and social justice and civil rights funds:
Thank you, everyone who has picked up my album at Bandcamp--just donated $450 from $225 in album purchases! I'll continue to donate whatever folks pay, and double it--pass it on!https://t.co/xY4zZ2L7fH— Musicophilia (@musicophiliamix) November 9, 2020

xpostRobert Turman's Flux got a lot of attention when it was reissued in the 2010ish period. I know it came out on Spectrum Spools eventually but I remember a separate reissue in the years beforehand doing the rounds on Volcanic Tongue etc

is it normal for a band / label not to automatically combine shipping? i'm trying to order three tapes from a label and bandcamp is trying to charge me $12 for shipping. i hate this!

And I think that's standard with shipping on Bandcamp, budo. I don't think the setup is sophisticated enough to automatically combine shipping although I haven't looked at it recently.
― spectralist brostep (Noel Emits), Monday, 1 February 2021 18:36 (three years ago) link
idk about that, I'm pretty sure I've lowered per-unit shipping by buying a few things from one label

I did order something from a Swiss record store a while back (via Amazon) and they deliberately sent both items separately, so there might some kind of customs reason?
― rob, Monday, 1 February 2021 18:42 (three years ago) link
this is an american label and i'm in USA so not a customs thing –– luckily there was a way to email the label and so we just dealt with it via paypal. i think this might have something to do with what they call a "fan account" vs. an account you use to host your own music (or no music at all, in my case). also my own incompetence is probably at play if i'm being fair. like bandcamp will regularly stop me from streaming records that i've alreay paid for, ON bandcamp. because according to them i don't "own them" ... whatever!

also i know i've plugged it here before, but if you want some seriously great introspective streetwise chicago hiphop, i can't recommend waldorf and statler enough. they have all their stuff set to free, but you can throw them a fiver if you feel so compelled.
semi-related, you can get the entire windimoto music catalogue (of which the dvs solo album is part of) digitally for less than $20. all chicago peeps, with an assist from detroit.

Ha, I often have this problem as my money-having time is pretty sporadic. As an artist, I honestly don't mind if people don't buy on the bandcamp days. And as a bandcamp stan, I kind of feel fine about giving them their cut too, if you only bought on fee-free days then they'd go bust.
As to upthread, I was cheeky and went ahead and played your track before you'd replied, ha. I'll send a link to the show through to your ilxmail if you like?

i'm curious now what happens when an album you purchased is removed from bandcamp - i guess it just disappears?i mostly use the sonos app to listen but always make sure to download files as well
― scanner darkly, Thursday, 25 February 2021 19:42 (three years ago) link
Yeah, if you haven't downloaded the files then I think you're out of luck.
― change display name (Jordan), Thursday, 25 February 2021 20:07 (three years ago) link
shit, I didn't know that was a thing that happened!
on Amazon Music, if you buy a digital album and the album then gets removed from their library, you still remain access to the streaming digital media, and can still download it (you just can't buy or access the album if you never had previously).
if Bandcamp shit outright disappears, I have a lot of downloading to do to my Google Drive. not sure how they can get away with that since they advertise you getting free digital access to the music along with your mp3s/FLACs, which implies some level of permanency.

Bandcamp Friday! I plugged ilkae on here previously but he has a new album Questionable Casino out for $5 and the complete discography is now $12.20.
If any ilxors are into woozy electronic/wistful idm/chiptunes gone haywire & would like to get in touch then I'll buy them a copy of the full discog, or just the album if you prefer: ilxmail me yr email address today/this weekend.
If you do it in the next 12 hours (by approx 1am UK time tonight) I can buy it while it's still Bandcamp Friday for an extra glow of satisfaction.
(Probably unnecessary disclaimer: offer good for max 3 requests, roughly first come first served but entirely at my discretion; I reserve the right not to do this if the price goes up, if something very expensive happens to me in the next 12 hours, or if I just don't feel like it any more - although it is fully my intention to feel like it and you can call me rude names on ilx for the next week if I don't)

Considering the intent behind Bandcamp Friday and how it ensures more money in the pockets of artists it seems churlish to complain about anything, but... I'm not the biggest fan of how it has already re-aligned the release calendar to be a metric shit-ton of releases once a month, rather than being more spread out.
Again, I'm all for it, but it's easier for me to buy more music when it's more spread out and it's not as easy to give my wallet one huge hit once a month.

I totally agree, I wish they would just halve or reduce their revenue share overall during the pandemic. What it's done to the release cycle, and to artists feeling like they're on a monthly schedule, is really a bummer.
