Ball Arena and Banker's Life Fieldhouse are both funny in their mundaneness too though

A buddy in college worked at a smoothie king and warned everyone that it was filthy and to never go there.

Climate Pledge Arena is not yet an NBA venue but it is an atrocious name, hope u enjoy it

Speaking of arenas, three of the main cities that swung the vote had their arenas used as polling places because of the bubble strike but nobody's talking about How Hoops Saved America.

this is one of the better articles i've read in a while--explains the differences between duke and kentucky as top recruit destinations and how that affects how we should think of their players as draft prospects: https://www.theringer.com/nba/2020/11/6/21551113/nba-draft-duke-kentucky-players

would be kinda fun

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 11 November 2020 01:54 (three years ago) link

i don't know what okc might want beyond the matching salaries but it strikes me as a pretty low-risk move for the suns.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 11 November 2020 02:08 (three years ago) link

suns are under the cap so they can just eat a bunch of pauls salary

lag∞n, Wednesday, 11 November 2020 16:50 (three years ago) link

seems kinda likely. CP moreso since his contract is such a beast

there may be some issues with moreys push all in if you have even a 5% chance strategy, for the team not him lol

lag∞n, Wednesday, 11 November 2020 17:24 (three years ago) link

those salaries are madness. they should be concerned that they arent earning them.

Spottie, Wednesday, 11 November 2020 17:42 (three years ago) link

that third max contract is a killer, wld prob be better to cap them at second contract size

lag∞n, Wednesday, 11 November 2020 17:44 (three years ago) link

“Oh, no, you’re all in, I got a new job, sucker.”

circles, Wednesday, 11 November 2020 17:48 (three years ago) link

it's just really funny that instead of simply running good franchises the owners decided the only way they could keep their best players was to make special rules so they could give them cripplingly huge sums of money

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 11 November 2020 17:51 (three years ago) link

they've basically been following the same playbook as a lot of lebron's teams over the years--trade future value for present, sign guys to extensions b/c there's no way to replace them, get nothing from the draft. it always ends like this.

The courts have required that free agency must be permitted and that owners are not allowed to collude together to fix FA salary ceilings on their own. That's restraint of trade. The solution is for all the players to have a union and negotiate a CBA that sets the FA rules. On the whole it works out better for owners and players (and fans) than operating in a rules-free environment.

i think we're talking about the recently added super-max here specifically

ciderpress, Wednesday, 11 November 2020 19:41 (three years ago) link

^^

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 11 November 2020 20:01 (three years ago) link

it's obvious that if a half dozen teams can all offer a FA the same max contract, the FA is far more likely to pick the big market team, since there are more opportunities for lucrative side-gigs and most NBA players find NYC or LA more congenial than, say, Salt Lake City. the super max was one of several attempts to compensate for that dynamic. but it would work better if all teams were riding a rapidly rising escalator of profits.

james takin a lil vacation

According to @KendrickPerkins, James Harden hasn't been answering the phone from ownership, the front office or even Coach Silas for a couple weeks now.

— ClutchFans (@clutchfans) November 11, 2020

lag∞n, Wednesday, 11 November 2020 20:22 (three years ago) link

the result is that the small market teams instead get to keep their player at the cost of not being able to build a good team around them and then having to deal with the pain point of a dissatisfied star player wanting out

ciderpress, Wednesday, 11 November 2020 20:23 (three years ago) link

trying to figure out exactly what grievance james has and i am coming up empty

lag∞n, Wednesday, 11 November 2020 20:47 (three years ago) link

yeah, i get that, but it's been there for a while, it's actually james harden's own handwriting, and it's not going to be different someplace else.
