Thanks so much! I like her track w Sun-El Musician, and dazzled by prospects of all the vids etc. on his thread, incl. Simmy.

Do you like the Ware?

Patriotic Goiter (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 6 November 2020 17:42 (three years ago) link

O hell yes, did I not say enough about her? Very much! You guys have covered it pretty well. How does it compare to her previous?

dow, Friday, 6 November 2020 17:56 (three years ago) link

Bass-ier, faster, sensual-er.

Stunning archive Ware performance on tonight's Jools Holland (selected by, er, Mel C).

Jessie's gonna be a judge on Drag Race UK's upcoming season and if the two queens up for elimination on her ep don't LSFYL to WYP's title track, I will plotz

but knowing it's Drag Race and they never give us what we want, they probably won't even lip sync to a Jessie Ware song on her ep

yesssssss

Just so you all know. There's gonna be a deluxe. I have listened to your calls (demands 😉) and I'm trying to get this shit together as quick as possible for you. I got you XXX

She’s so underrated outside the UK.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Sunday, 10 January 2021 03:01 (three years ago) link

is she?

this album was probably rated more highly by american critics than just about anything she's ever released which is insane

J0rdan S., Sunday, 10 January 2021 03:07 (three years ago) link

is it

stylish but illegal (Simon H.), Sunday, 10 January 2021 03:18 (three years ago) link

yes

her first two albums -- even the imperfect second one -- where she was trying to carve out a voice of her own & interacting w/ contemporary pop music >>>> trad disco revivalism

J0rdan S., Sunday, 10 January 2021 03:19 (three years ago) link

you know there's more going on than "trad disco revivalism" but ok

stylish but illegal (Simon H.), Sunday, 10 January 2021 03:21 (three years ago) link

devotion is still a classic and was very well received critically also, it just probably had less crossover to us critics because it was only released in the us nearly a year after its uk release

no way is tough love better than what's your pleasure though

ufo, Sunday, 10 January 2021 03:39 (three years ago) link

are we really arguing about whether she's underrated here? Check Metacritic in 2012 and 2020.

it is weird to me that this album is comparably well received to devotion which is imo more interesting and emotionally resonant

dyl, Sunday, 10 January 2021 03:56 (three years ago) link

No she’s not underrated and Devotion = WYP

both questions settled, next

self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Sunday, 10 January 2021 03:57 (three years ago) link

imo Pleasure > Tough Love > Devotion >>>>>> Glasshouse

Neat how different people hear things differently.

Apparently she has a sizable following in Poland -- Devotion apparently made a successful impact there. I believe she has performed on The Voice Poland

winters (josh), Sunday, 10 January 2021 04:24 (three years ago) link

There's been a whole Polish nu-disco scene for at least 15 years, most visibly to me (as a dilettante) in the Kathy Diamond albums or the film The Lure. What's Your Pleasure is a neat fit, and really its only fault (to me) is its single-minded lyrical focus.

Nice to see Jessie's victory in our poll last week (as well as her performance on The Graham Norton Show) resulting in a boost for the album this week. Its original chart run was just 3 - 44 - Out. To see her this high in the mid-weeks is impressive.

1 Foo Fighters - Medicine at Midnight (35.4k)
2 Fleet Foxes - Shore (5.3k)
3 Black Country, New Road - For the First Time (4.7k)
4 Celeste - Not Your Muse (4.5k)
5 The Weeknd - The Highlights (3.9k)
6 Jessie Ware - What's Your Pleasure?

Hopefully Remember Where You Are takes off and keeps the album selling for a while.

"are we really arguing about whether she's underrated here? "

I think the better word is 'unknown.' Her albums were/are reasonably well championed and well reviewed in the US, but I doubt most people would know who she was by name.

one month passes...

Album is being re-released in June, first single out tomorrow.

Hi everyone,

So, after telling you all in January that I was going to do a deluxe, it seems like I’ve taken my sweet time doing it. But it’s here! And going to be yours June 11th.

What does one call a deluxe record after their first deluxe was called the Gold Edition? Well, Platinum Pleasure of course!!!

Now, we have to make the deluxe go to Platinum so I don’t feel like a wally.

The first taste of Platinum Pleasure (sounds like a condom range I know, hey, perhaps merch idea for tour in December???) goes out with the delightful Zoe Ball on Wednesday 28th April from 7.30am.

It’s called Please. It’s fun, flirtatious and a song that feels like we are getting closer to those moments of meeting up, talking, touching and kissing. I love it, I wrote it with Shungudzo, Danny Parker and James Ford (my dream team) and the video that is coming has loads more dancing for you lot to learn in time for the tour.

Now, onto the tour. December, I have everything crossed for it and honestly, can’t wait to perform to you all.

In the mean time, get ready for more music, more dancing and the arrival of What’s Your Pleasure The Platinum Pleasure edition. All formats (including limited edition vinyl, double cassette & more!) will be available on my store on Wednesday morning, so keep an eye out!

Sending loads of love to you all.

Wish the bonus disc was packaged separately as a single disc for those who'd bought the album on release, along with a discounted 2cd platinum edition to draw in those who hadn't. Feels more of a fan disservice, buying the regular edition twice.

Well I didn't actually buy the regular, but more tempted for this. Will it be okay to put put PP on a ballot after after listing the regular last year? Prob gonna do it anyway.
