"Trump voters are all redneck racists!"
Of the 26 neighborhoods listed in San Francisco in the voting record, one of the biggest districts gave Trump the fifth-highest amount of votes. The largely residential Sunset District on the west side of the city went 18.89% for the incumbent president. The fourth-highest Republican tally came from one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the city, the Excelsior, where Trump earned 19.93% of the vote. The Excelsior's eastern neighbor, Portola, gave Trump the third-highest share of presidential votes, at 20.26%.Trump received the second-most San Francisco votes from the southwestern corner of city — where all the golf courses are — Lake Merced, whose residents gave him 21.14% of their votes. And while no neighborhood in the city gave more than a quarter of their votes to the Republican president this year, Visitacion Valley, the working-class neighborhood near the southern reaches of the city, chose him the most, with a 23.56% share.

But golf courses.

None of that is surprising, tbh.

― lukas, Thursday, 3 December 2020 22:37 (three years ago) link
A friend posted a video from the Oakland hills today and yeah, it's bone-dry. Distressing to say the least.

(I was there from 2008-2015, and in California two years after that, so remember the Bay being extraordinarily dry from 2012-2015...and then it was like a hose opened up for a year or two, if my memory serves correctly).

Yeah here's hoping the skies open up again. But uh ...https://www.cbsnews.com/news/climate-change-drought-california-western-united-states-study/(I found another link saying "worst in 400 years" but I went for the more apocalyptic take)

I don't think it's particularly warm but yes it's very dry and it's forecasted to be another La Niña this winter.
We awoke from a phone call from our brother/sister in law down in Orange County saying they were under mandatory fire evacuation in DECEMBER which is incredibly unusual.

Heh as if the majority of people in San Francisco city limits at any given time have any need to think about the majestic beige home to the Sun Valley Mall that is Concord, let alone pronounce the name of said shining beacon of the suburban dream
― sarahell, Saturday, 19 December 2020 21:31 (three years ago) link
I mean, Concord is hardly the bastion of culture and classy consumer goods that is Walnut Creek -- sometimes I aspire to live in Walnut Creek

Metallica had a house in El Cerrito, and a nondescript one at that.
― Andy the Grasshopper, Monday, 21 December 2020 23:54 (three years ago) link
When Don Joyce died I helped Internet Archive empty out his storage space and got some free swag for it. That was either in EC or Richmond, I think. It was a trip to see all the random NL stuff they had stored away in a section of a huge nondescript warehouse.

El Cerrito rules. Fogerty's from there. The Mel-O-Dee is the best karaoke spot I've been to. A hop, skip and a jump from Albany Bowl, the Hotsy Totsy and the amazing taco truck that was always parked outside.

I won't argue with that... there was a big opposition to the In'n'Out burger being built, with plenty of pearl-clutching about "Oakland-type people" coming over to dine there.
