lol, i know more about this universe than i would like to admit but it's all limited to the original trilogy

xp We may get some of these answers! If Fett has "gone native," he may just be another weird dude in the desert to the Tuskens, and not worth mentioning (their concerns seem more... immediate). They also may not know that Fett ever wore the armor, if he ditched it soon after escaping the Sarlaac.
― Tim Simms (morrisp), Tuesday, 3 November 2020 20:19 (three years ago) link
are we meant to assume that the sand dragon ate the sarlaac, as mando suggested, and that was Jabba's sarlaac and that somewhere betwixt lips and hips boba got out, got stripped of his armor and is now living as a ronin amidst the sand dunes?
― Tuomas, Tuesday, 3 November 2020 20:20 (three years ago) link
Yeah wait, I missed that part. Of course it's a different Sarlaac.
― Tim Simms (morrisp), Tuesday, 3 November 2020 20:22 (three years ago) link
gotta eat more than one sarlaac to get by my friend
― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Tuesday, 3 November 2020 20:22 (three years ago) link
(the script does a nice job of introducing the idea of multiple Sarlaacs with a throwaway line)

I liked when the raiders held up the egg at the end when they were harvesting the meat
― calstars, Tuesday, 3 November 2020 20:31 (three years ago) link
sand dwellers love eggs

i think three days of spoiler tags is appropriate; how's the thread feel about that?
― Fuck the NRA (ulysses),
I kind think if you don't want spoilers don't open the thread till you've watched the episode, but maybe that's a bit harsh.

Not an egg, though:

I mean sure an EASTER egg haha wait please don't kill me
I guess there are so many levels of in-universe references, callbacks, etc., that it's miserly of me to complain about the low-hanging ones that I do "get." That's just what the show is, for better or worse (but I hope the Obi-Wan series doesn't do the same thing!).
― Tim Simms (morrisp), Tuesday, 3 November 2020 21:14 (three years ago) link
I feel like the Krayt Pearl is a good example of an easter egg done right - a definite nod to the hardcore fans but doesn't distract at all from the storytelling and doesn't change the viewing experience one iota if you don't get it.

that's an unfortunate typo

jesus, wow. sorry folks.
― soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 3 November 2020 21:39 (three years ago) link
put in a mod request to hopefully fix that.
― soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 3 November 2020 21:40 (three years ago) link
I don't think any of the easter eggs have been too glaring in this - even if you didn't twig who that was at the end episode one, a mysterious scary looking bloke tracking Mando is still a decent enough cliffhanger.

we've only had spoiler tags for about 3 weeks, it's cool to use 'em for things that are a bit ambigious imo

on another distant hilltop a second shadowy figure is observing the first shadowy figure observing the mandalorian
he turns to the camera
it is Jeremy Bulloch

Baby Yoda's obsession with eating pickled eggs is the best thing ever, obviously.

I loved this episode except for the saved at the last minute from out of nowhere resolution to the spider problem.

I like the concept art with the nightmare eyes on the octispiders

I liked how they used both the droid and the X-wings as callbacks to the prison ship episode, each in a completely different way.

Opening three-minute scene of this one was so exactly what I want from this show I almost cried

It was kind of a weird episode, but I enjoyed it. (Felt maybe a little more sci-fi than Star Wars.)And yeah, the opening bit was great.

Is repairing a ship in a Star Wars RPG the kind of action that routinely succeeds without even a need for a dice roll?
― Tim Simms (morrisp), Saturday, 7 November 2020 06:49 (three years ago) link
I had similar thoughts. Can you just get from one moon to the other on scrap plus a couple of engines? Really?
― sound of scampo talk to me (El Tomboto), Saturday, 7 November 2020 07:14 (three years ago) link
mr veg remarked that mando is a pretty shit pilot, he crashes a ship almost every episode
― terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 7 November 2020 07:27 (three years ago) link
it’s charming how spaceships in SW are like old beater cars... but even when one is hella wrecked, a brief shower of sparks seems to restore the structural integrity to blast into & through space.
― Tim Simms (morrisp), Saturday, 7 November 2020 07:31 (three years ago) link
Counter: Mando js a phenomenal pilot, he keeps all his passengers alive despite being forced to crash his vessel repeatedly

― licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Saturday, 7 November 2020 08:57 (three years ago) link
I did think it was a tiny bit odd that the main joke in this episode was “my baby eats your babies, ha ha!”

Did you know? The Spiders in #Mandalorian are called Krykna and first appeared as concept art from Ralph McQuarrie for ESB, and we used in Star Wars Rebels. #ThisIsTheWay pic.twitter.com/DXOAgbyUTq— StarWarsSteveo (@SteveoWars) November 6, 2020
