i didn't eat it, but i did pinch off a bit of cheese and it was the classic home run inn quality we've all come to expect.

the foil was laid down before the pizza entered the oven. over the years, a part of my brain has grown to keep an eye on the rest of it, preparing for the worst but hoping for the best. in this case, the worst happened, but it would have been even worse without the aluminum foil. (you could say the pizza's plop was...foiled? sorry)

i did, though, definitely take a minute to run and get my phone and take a couple pics before addressing the situation

I should note that my interior AK rankings are from ten years or so ago, when climate change was just starting to take hold. March is supposed to be perfect winter weather, April is sunny winter weather gradually giving way to the beginnings of thaw, February is cold but with some really nice days. But now it's all mixed up and you never know what you're going to get in the spring.

Major French Wine Regions

Burgundy - Most thrilling and transcendent wine moments to be had here
Bordeaux - So much good stuff, even a lot of the cheaper wine is great, more variety than one might think. Sauterne is amazing.
Champagne - For me, some of the highest highs.
Southern Rhone - Chateauneuf du Pape, nuff said.
Northern Rhone - Don't drink as much as I'd like. Good Cornas ain't cheap. Condrieu can be amazing
Alsace - So much amazing high-acid wine and plenty good Pinot Noir and bubbles as well
Loire Valley - tempted to rank higher. Tons of variety, riveting whites and I love Cab Franc.
Beaujolais - many Burgundy producers buying land here. Gamay can be wonderful
Provence - some of the best rose in the world. The reds are often powerful.
Languedoc - good sparkling, good reds
Southwest - I like French Malbec, don't drink it often. Cool, often funky and interesting whites.
Corsica - need to try more from here, mostly drank roses and liked them.

I don't know anything about wine, but when I was in France I drank a lot of Brouilly, which I guess is Beaujolais? I really liked it.

Ooh I love a good Brouilly! You'd probably like Fleurie, too.

I was already doing this in my head for North Carolina since our seasons are changing right on the equinox/solstice the last few years. Autumn and Spring temperatures are perfect, but only the former is marred by the threat of hurricanes (so far). Escaping the psychically crushing late winter of March up north was reason enough to relocate, though the last weeks of summer hold a similar weight in the south.

I'm all about the region of Bordeaux (especially Saint-Émilion), Côtes-du-Rhône (the classic blends found in Chateauneuf but also the Grenache-Syrah blends, excellent stuff at excellent price). I'm actually unfamiliar with the Bourgogne which is nearest where I live, I've tasted very good things from the Côte-d'Or but they also seem very expensive. I refuse to put more than 15-20 euros for a bottle.

Returning from Provence this summer, my new idea as a "foody" is to get into olive oil - seems as worthy than getting into wine.

Then again we just had our wettest summer and our coldest May. I don't dislike winter, but the months can be greyish. March is not really bad, but you just can't wait for Spring to arrive soon enough.

May is when things thaw. So it's just a lot of mud and rivers of snowmelt running down your driveway, and all the snow slides off the roof in a huge lump all at once and then lies around the yard getting dirtier and dirtier. Which wouldn't be that bad except it takes forever and you never know when it's going to start and when it's going to end. Some years all that starts in April and it's actually decent by mid-May, but some years it snows in May and doesn't really start to melt properly until around Memorial Day. And of course by that time the skiing is done, the river isn't safe to go on, and you're sick of winter and just want it to be over.

I just hated winter in Guangzhou, firstly there's no heating anywhere, so the few weeks of actual cold weather you get are unbearable, then there's the weird cold-but-humid days where the condensation runs down all the walls and across the floor, feels like you are living in some kind of miasma, it's impossible to dry clothes, you hang them up and they get wetter, then start growing mold.

No toaster oven or microwave?

i just got a new kettle and was gifted an intensely powerful NINJA blender that sounds like a generator and actually slides across the countertop as it powerfully blends my...smoothie? i recently lost a lot of my kitchen gear so my list is meager:

1. coffee grinder (burr)
2. microwave
3. NINJA
4. kettle
5. basic ass toaster

Used daily: coffee grinder, kettle, toaster oven, microwave
Weekly: waffle iron, food processor
Monthly or less often: knife sharpener, hand mixer, blender, immersion blender

oh and microwave somewhere in the middle

I suspect some are interchangeable, depending on personal experience, but consider this a working 'Farmyard bastard' scale - in order of most intimidating/dangerous to least. Admittedly, I've not worked on a farm but, as an effete countryside flaneur, I have walked through more than a few.

No toaster oven or microwave?

Oh I was gonna post a small commentary but I didn't know if this was just pure solipsism or what ha

I haven't owned a microwave in a long time, I do not like how it makes food taste. I reheat my food in a pot or a pan with a splash of water or oil when applicable
I have never owned a toaster oven or an air fryer (and I'm not especially needful of one)
I have never owned a pressure cooker or a hot pot or a slow cooker (and if I had a larger kitchen I would likely get one)
I have never owned a stand mixer but I intend to get one in the event that my pasta maker cacks out (one with the pasta-making attachment)
My food processor is my least-used accessory (next to the waffle-iron) because I seldom need more food processed than what my immersion blender can do for me

I have owned a juicer and am not inclined to get a new one, juice gets old fast and cleaning them is not fun

Also I love cows but am terrified of bulls, my dad's farm was hired out for a grazing herd and if the bull was nearby it was a day of indoor playtime

cows are too docile to be malicious but yeah if they step on you or wander through a weak fenceline you are kinda fucked

birds in general could all go in sub 1 category under geese, i hate most birds & poultry

Canada geese are gross awful fuckers but I love birds-as-pets

I mostly use the microwave for making popcorn and melting butter, in addition to reheating leftovers. There are better ways to reheat most things, but sometimes convenience and avoiding the need to wash another pan wins out.

Cows can be hella malicious if they're protecting a calf.

When a styrofoam container with Chinese or Vietnamese food in it has arrived at my house and its temperature has decreased in transit, then I find myself wishing I owned a microwave. That's really the only context I ever miss out on one.

Popcorn I make in a stock pot! it's great because you can make a LOT and I never feel like a single Jiffy Pop or an Orville bag is enough for the entire movie

I have one of those HOTPOP microwave poppers. The thing works great. There is a limit to how much you can make at once, but it only takes about 3 minutes, so you can always just make a second batch.

Rice cooker and instant pot are 2 I can do without because I cook rice on the stove and have a stove-top pressure cooker.

I used to do that, but the convenience of setting the rice and beans a-cooking without further attention frees up headspace for cooking the burrito fillings, or pilaf/chickpeas/kabobs, etc

Frequency of use rankings would be different from "how valuable it is in making finished products better" rankings, so this is sort of a combo ranking of both:
1- elec. kettle
2- (burr) coffee grinder
3- microwave
4- blender/food processor (2 tools that use the same motor)
