Frank Bough, bejumpered soothing grandma's TV host who at the age of FIFTY FIVE got sacked over a coke 'n' hookers newspaper sting operation.

To be fair he did look much older https://i.imgur.com/Qu0z2Q8.jpg

Going to be that guy and ask, who will complete the triple?

Spiral "Scratch" Starecase (James Redd and the Blecchs), Wednesday, 28 October 2020 15:42 (three years ago) link

Aw. That guy is so good. I saw him play a show once and mid-set he opened up his shirt to show the giant heart-shaped scar where he recently had heart surgery.

Also, shot someone in the face for allegedly picking a fight with him a few years ago.

and, amazingly, still dropping pretty good music! there's a case to be made that no musical artist in the recording era has been as productive or maintained such a high level quality over the course of so long a career.

looking forward to the Cannon & Little Show at Skegness. Sorry too soon, another comedy duo mercilessly halved by the Rona.

calzino, Thursday, 29 October 2020 10:20 (three years ago) link

I saw Bobby in the 70's doing Jack and the Beanstalk at Bradford Alhambra. Which i enjoyed much more than when my parents took me back to the same venue for The Dubliners.

calzino, Thursday, 29 October 2020 10:21 (three years ago) link

also got memories of watching Boys In Blue at the Cinema and laughing loudly at the bit where he jumps onto a cowpat.

calzino, Thursday, 29 October 2020 10:29 (three years ago) link

The only time I saw him in person was in a hotel lobby checking out in the morning, complaining that someone on reception had crank called him in the night.

Two Meter Peter (Ste), Thursday, 29 October 2020 10:30 (three years ago) link

omg I watched that at the cinema too!! haha watching it on YT now

Two Meter Peter (Ste), Thursday, 29 October 2020 10:31 (three years ago) link

I was once on a long coach trip where the 'entertainment' was a video screening of Boys in Blue. It was the last film directed by Val Guest, who also made The Day the Earth Caught Fire, the first two Quatermass films, Expresso Bongo, Confessions of a Window Cleaner etc etc. I believe Boys in Blue is a revamping of the Will Hay comedy Ask a Policeman, which Guest co-wrote.

The Boys in Blue, a seminal “there’s nothing else in, I suppose this’ll do” VHS rental choice of my childhood

I can remember a friend when I was a kid coming back from his holiday in Blackpool wearing some "Rock on Tommy" braces, they were the height of fashion!

calzino, Thursday, 29 October 2020 13:55 (three years ago) link

Never a fan of them as a kid but they were good in panto in Hull a few years back, they seem like decent lads really.

big man on scampus (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 29 October 2020 14:08 (three years ago) link

I definitely did the "rock on Tommy" thing a bunch as a kid, though I was too young really to have watched the TV show. Tommy Cannon's a born-again, isn't he? I thought that was what broke up their partnership in the first place.

After re-watching Boys in Blue today I've realised that I misremembered this one because I always thought there was a person going around pretending to be the headless horseman, and I had a pretty vivid image in my mind of it. Turns out there isn't (they just mention it as a myth) and in my childhood just decided to make it up.

Two Meter Peter (Ste), Thursday, 29 October 2020 16:14 (three years ago) link

btw I'm pretty gutted about it.

My folks went to see C&B at the Floral Pavilion in New Brighton - early '90s, maybe? First half: rock on, you really 'ate me, you've got me skin, etc. Second half: praise Jesus. They walked out.
