Tracer, my friend who shared that method with me just told me he now uses one of these and swears by it. My curiosity is piqued!

I've only ever done the inverted method with the Aeropress. The other way frankly looks more difficult to me. I'd be worried about trying to seat the plunger when the tube is already full of hot water and coffee grounds. Even doing the inverted way, I knocked it over once, and hot water and coffee grounds went all over the counter, got inside my electronic scale, which gave me a scare for about a day until it dried out and started working again.

I have no idea what changed – or, indeed, if anything changed at all – but my last two attempts yielded much better results, using the default method.

Life is too short NOT to do all that you can to ensure a superior cof

I know I badmouthed the World Aeropress Championship recipes, but the 2017 from Paulina Miczka is now my gospel

we don't talk much about here about how we take our cof. i'm forcing myself to drink it black because i'm trying to eliminate sugar as best i can, and i don't like any other sweeteners, natural or otherwise. no cream/milk/soy/oat/almond etc
cream/sugar for you guys?
― rip van wanko, Wednesday, 21 October 2020 12:14 (three years ago) link
the only time i have milk is if i'm ordering a flat white or a machiatto. at home it is always, always black.
― Li'l Brexit (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 21 October 2020 12:27 (three years ago) link
do you sweeten your espresso drinks TH?
― rip van wanko, Wednesday, 21 October 2020 12:37 (three years ago) link
Substitute cappuccino for flat white and this is me.
― pomenitul, Wednesday, 21 October 2020 12:46 (three years ago) link
if i'm at a snooty 3rd-wave coffee shop, no. if i'm at a caff, yes.

i take my coffee w a fairly good glug of cream - most often no sugar, but sometimes just a touch of sugar if it’s not a very nice batch of beans
― terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 21 October 2020 17:02 (three years ago) link
lattes though, i hardly ever have sugar unless it’s a little raw sugar sprinkled on top
― terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 21 October 2020 17:03 (three years ago) link
sometimes half n half sometimes black sometimes a lil sugar depending
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 October 2020 17:03 (three years ago) link
if you can get just the right amount of sugar where it brings out the natural sweetness of the brew without tasting like sugar thats very nice

For hot coffee, I always drink it black. If its iced or cold brew, I usually add whole milk.
― o. nate, Wednesday, 21 October 2020 17:41 (three years ago) link
Same here. Black if hot, tiny splash of whole milk and a tsp of simple syrup if iced.
― beard papa, Wednesday, 21 October 2020 17:45 (three years ago) link
milk in coffee is weird to me, gotta be that half + half

― lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 October 2020 18:08 (three years ago) link
Anything from 1% to whole milk works for me. I'll do half and half if no options but it's a little too rich.

Sometimes I drink too much coffee just because it's there and it's something to have, and then I wind up getting irritable. I had to really practice mindfulness today when I started getting edgy, that I shouldn't drink more and try to focus on regulating my mood instead. It worked but it took a few hours for the already excess caffeine to leave my system.

I will say that the AeroPress is my preferred method when I am camping.
I have been thinking about the few months when we used an old school percolator, kind of want to get a small one to make cups in the afternoon.
Oh, and a good shop finally opened near me, and they make a decent Americano, which I'm so excited about.

I am a bit lost without it. I have a decent mill grinder for backup but it's so hard for me to figure out how much to grind, how long to grind, etc. I used to just turn the dial to 5 and I knew that was a full press pot.

Sunbeam Cafe Series here - definitely recommend when the healing starts. Sorry for your loss man alive (I've always adored your display name too).

I mean, idk maybe I should try to fix it - it still kind of goes but the motor is kind of whirring up and down inconsistently and the grind is coming out with lots of bean pieces. Maybe there's still something that can be done.

Sounds like something might be stuck between the burrs, forcing them apart. Are you comfortable with disassembly and cleaning?

If it doesn't require me to purchase any additional tools I'd give it a shot. Otherwise not worth it.

My Capresso grinder is still going strong even as usage has gone from weekends only to every day since March. It must be going on 7 or 8 years. Knock on wood.
― o. nate, Wednesday, 18 November 2020 01:29 (three years ago) link
Oh yeah you can put another 100k miles on it easy. Mine (assuming it can't be fixed, which I'm not assuming) lasted 14 years of daily use and I did basically nothing to maintain it. I barely even clean it.
