New Zealand just voted against legalising cannabis by 53.1% to 46.1%

nate woolls, Friday, 30 October 2020 01:58 (three years ago) link

damn NZ, that's like, literally the first thing i heard about NZ that wasn't cool

Another referendum held at the same time to legalise euthanasia passed 65.2% yes to 33.8% no

nate woolls, Friday, 30 October 2020 02:08 (three years ago) link

NJ most likely going to pass

(•̪●) (carne asada), Friday, 30 October 2020 02:09 (three years ago) link

Seeing reports it should pass in all states voting on it this time around.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 30 October 2020 02:11 (three years ago) link

I held off on renewing my med card here in AZ with the expectation it'll be fully legalized. Didn't make sense to pay $500 for 2 yr card if it won't be needed in January.

i’m many years clean and sober and i voted ‘yes’ to legalising cannabis in nz so i don’t see why everyone else couldn’t, i’m surprised and annoyed

estela, Friday, 30 October 2020 03:51 (three years ago) link

estela you have a vote in nz?!?!

estela, Friday, 30 October 2020 04:09 (three years ago) link

haha, i'm always oblivious of these basic details! but that's so cool. and it's impossible for me to imagine what that was like, then, but it warms my heart.

just another 3-pinnochio post by (Karl Malone), Friday, 30 October 2020 04:19 (three years ago) link

"that's so cool" twice in 20 minutes, lol. this is basically my default opinion when new zealand and cannabis politics collide

I drove an hour on rural freeway between two cities in michigan and it gave me flashbacks of college when I would be terrified of getting pulled over with weed in the, but this time there were at least six giant billboards offering MICHIGAN'S FINEST CANNABIS NEXT EXIT and it still feels so surreal to me.

Friend of mine produced this box of weed and weed-adjacent... items. Gummies, vape canisters or whatever they're called, actual weed etc. It was pretty hysterical after all the things we went through back in the day to buy earth bud. He took the day off work and went to Ann Arbor. (we live in Cleveland)

Yeah I was going to ask, what’s the count of states here? Like, how many are left to finally legalize things across the board?

Honestly wonder how long Idaho, Kansas and Nebraska will hold out.

Seems like drugs did really well on the ballot last night, maybe they should run for president.

xp when I lived on the wa/id border half the plates in the parking lot of the weed stores would have idaho plates, and the kansas people I know regularly travel over the border to colorado. I have no idea if they'll keep it illegal to prove some moral point or just give up after constantly losing money to other states.

Here in MN a really fun dynamic has emerged where there are two distinct pot-legalization parties that have achieved “major party” status, and their vote-siphoning presence on the ballot is the only thing preventing Democrats from gaining the state senate and actually legalizing it. Good job dudes!

W33d is legal in DC iirc

(•̪●) (carne asada), Friday, 19 March 2021 13:37 (three years ago) link

yeah that's legitimately shitty, hope they reverse course now that it's a story

it's still illegal here but they opened up a Delta 8 dispensary recently, where you can buy weed which is I think just hemp with some stuff sprayed on it. it works but it's kinda weak. reminds me of the shit that went around in high school. still, it's priced appropriately - they sell 1g prerolls for $10 which is more than enough for me

frogbs, Friday, 19 March 2021 14:37 (three years ago) link

A reminder that technically, you can’t “purchase” marijuana in DC because of Congressional interference, but you can purchase something else and receive marijuana as a “gift.” https://t.co/Ss5vb8E9ZJ

— Jane Coaston (@janecoaston) March 19, 2021

yeah i remember going to a place that had "gifts" when you buy a lighter or sticker

(•̪●) (carne asada), Friday, 19 March 2021 15:05 (three years ago) link

A premium experience, like smoking dab wax, meant purchasing a premium gift. She had two options. “I kid you not, the flag options were a Black Lives Matter flag or an All Lives Matter flag. They sold both. I just didn’t know what to do,” Grimaldi says. The dabs came on a one-flag-per-hit basis, and Grimaldi was with a friend, “so I bought two of the Black Lives Matter flags.” The blatant appropriation of diametrically-opposed movements rubbed Grimaldi in a weird way. “Then I had a dab hit and had no more questions,” she says.

lol wut

That is so fucked.

The people I deal with nominally sell a "digital subscription", but as far as I can there is no actual subscription. Maybe I should switch to someone who gives me socks.

It appears the grey market delivery service is in full swing for suburban New Jersey, as my coworker who I knew smoked on occasions started telling me about how he found a guy on IG that delivers regularly to him now.

A deal to legalize recreational marijuana in New York was crafted with the hope of making amends in communities affected by the war on drugs. Millions of dollars in tax revenue from cannabis sales would be reinvested in minority communities each year. https://t.co/vz0RUHmnRz pic.twitter.com/T7xq3zeWBW

Am I correct in thinking it's pretty unusual for states to legalize it via the legislature?

Mr. Cacciatore (Moodles), Thursday, 25 March 2021 17:38 (three years ago) link

yeah, they tried that here in NJ but Murphy couldn't wrangle the dem majority to get their crap together. Ended up on going on the ballot and passed no problem.

(•̪●) (carne asada), Thursday, 25 March 2021 18:00 (three years ago) link

Illinois passed it via legislature, and at the time it was the most progressive in the country, as far as steering tax money back to the communities who are targeted in the war on drugs
