Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job - Christ Almighty this show is funny.

His lyrics are so unwaveringly matter of fact that when he started making non-comedy music I think almost everyone was looking for his trademark drydecker parody underneath it somewhere. And part of it is the production as Hadrian said. The upfront vocals somewhat resemble how his comedy songs are mixed in Awesome show etc. So combined with the commonplace lyrics there's nothing transcendent. Just straightforward song arrangements and subject matter with a plain-speaking approach.

yeah I remember watching the video for "Work From Home" on youtube and it seemed like all the comments at that time were from adult swim fans who didnt quite get it, like "lololol this is hilarious, tim is the master of fucked up surreal satire, this is perfect!"

Yes, everyone wanted to feel like they were in on it with him; as fans they totally "get it".

as a fan I'm ready to be disappointed by Moonbase 8 next month. between that, Space Force, and that new netflix doc series about the Challenger explosion, I feel like America is poised to be burnt out on astronaut comedy

Didn't expect the Challenger doc to be hilarious, but I haven't watched it yet.

first episode is on YouTube. it's pretty good though it clearly seems like one of those pilot episodes that gives you no real clue what the show is gonna be like. reminded me a bit of Bedtime Stories actually

i watched the first four episodes of Moonbase and I think it's terrible.

first two and same tbh

only saw the first and it seemed they were all playing it a bit too straight

it's more of a slow-burn low-key character-driven thing like Baskets, but the characters just aren't there. Tim's xian father-of-12 guy was decent, and I think the only time I laughed was when he had his face stomped on by the interim 4th crew member after he tried to consummate their unspoken relationship after praying on it, but John was just John and Fred kinda bugs. I finished it last night and was mostly bored, but ymmv depending on how much you like dehydrated food jokes. It was nice to see Alia Shawkat get some work.

btw not sure if this or the On Cinema thread is the designated thread for Office Hours talk, but replacing Doug "smoke drugs first thing in the morning" Pound with Megan Koester was a solid move for that enterprise
