OK - is the rant at the end of "twinkle" a keith david monologue? (the dude in men at work, the thing, they live, etc.)

i'm guessing not but it really sounds like him and this album IS pretty bonkers.

Whoa, anybody going to this at the Merriweather Post Pavilion?

"WPGC Welcomes the Summer Spirit Festival With Erykah Badu, Chrisette Michelle
Raphael Saadiq, Mike Epps, Chuck Brown, The Foreign Exchange and more!"

3 of my favorite R&B acts from 2008 on one bill. Could be great.

― Moreno, Tuesday, 30 June 2009

I want to go but I think I might be out-of-town for work that day in August.

Indeed. And still no sight of Return of the Ankh *sigh*. Not that I should have expected her to follow through on it any time soon, but a boy can hope, right?

Latest word is it will be released next February, but I know better than to hope now. Lucky for me, the first volume has replay value unto eternity.

lex pretend, Friday, 11 December 2009 16:20 (fourteen years ago) link

haha love how casually this is slipped in at the end -

Badu finished by stating that the third album in the New Amerykah series would be titled Lowdown, Low Underground and would be sung in the persona of her alias Loretta Brown, a woman that’s “from the ’50s but acts like she’s from the ’40s - the 2040’s.”

janelle monáe i love you but you better get your album out quick smart if you don't want ms badu to render it completely irrelevant.

Not much to add here. 2010 is gonna be a strong year for music. But I feel like I've been saying this every year for the past few years.

k3vin k., Friday, 11 December 2009 20:14 (fourteen years ago) link

oh it's just a track-by-track? progress i suppose, but we've been trolled too many times by release announcements that never happened :(

k3vin k., Friday, 11 December 2009 20:16 (fourteen years ago) link

LA CANCION MAS PRETENCIOSA DEL MUNDO... (The Reverend), Saturday, 12 December 2009 07:54 (fourteen years ago) link

It's less wild-ass than the first one; it ranges pretty widely while staying pretty resolutely R&B. Kind of Mama's Gun refracted through Pt. 1. Lots of piano and bass, a good amount of studio treatment but super approachable--the old fans who lost her w/Pt. 1 will like this a lot, I think. Last few songs get really torchy. A lyric that stood out: "I'm on my front porch rockin'/Like Lightnin' Hopkins." I think the above-linked preview says it well.

im now imagining a load of odd similies and hip hop quotes on this album.

titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Saturday, 12 December 2009 10:14 (fourteen years ago) link

(that hopkins one is a bit crap, though im sure it sounds good)

titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Saturday, 12 December 2009 10:15 (fourteen years ago) link

the old fans who lost her w/Pt. 1 will like this a lot, I think

Not gonna lie. This tempered my enthusiasm just a teeny tiny bit since I think Pt. 1 is her best album yet. But since Mama's Gun is right up there as runner-up, I guess this sounds awesome.

really senile old crap shit (Eric H.), Saturday, 12 December 2009 14:36 (fourteen years ago) link

well I think this was always planned as the most accessible album in the series (like, "Honey" was supposed to be on this album, which is why it was only a bonus track when it was bumped to the first album)

some dude, Saturday, 12 December 2009 15:15 (fourteen years ago) link

an album of "honey"s would be the best thing ever probably

k3vin k., Saturday, 12 December 2009 15:44 (fourteen years ago) link

crazy about the wayne track maybe being dropped because of the leak. THANKS INTERNET.
