Ok I've watched three hours of the Doom thing, even though it blows up Firefox's memory usage and makes everything crash. I can't always make it through his super long videos but this is good.

(might have to switch back to Chrome even though I was trying to lesson my Google surveillance)

The FFVI essay is good too, as a poignant midwest portrait of pre-internet childhood being obsessed with Final Fantasy games (relatable, except for me it was the original FF). Did he really go to high school with Subway Jared?!

I am very curious to see how he will spin insight, LOLs, and poignancy from Pac-Man, a game that to my mind, "speaks for itself" even more than Doom. Like what on Earth is there to say about Pac-Man?

I struggled with the doom vid. doom's greatness is somewhat lost in watching gameplay video.

i was ignorant of tim rogers before clicking on this thread a couple of weeks ago, i played doom back in the day and plenty of other fpses but am not a fanboy; anyway decided to start watching this for whatever reason and loved it.

Lol at the Patreon supporter that cancelled their sub because they didn't want to hear Tim talk about games they'd never heard of. Why would you even bother subbing to a Tim Rogers channel if you weren't interested in hearing him ramble on at great length about anything at all, as that basically is all his videos (and the whole appeal of watching them IMO)?

yeah tokimeki memorial is kinda the next most elemental game after tetris, mario, and zelda

it's still zelda though by way of the majora's mask sidequests and general ignorance of the chronology of those two games

ok that was enjoyable on the whole but i think the first hour where he places the game in historical context was the strongest part

well that plus the creeping horror of the 'successful' playthrough. his ruminations afterwards don't really add that much that isn't already expressed there

Is L.A. Noire really as good as his aside implied in this one?

yeah i was surprised to learn he thinks its good, ive only ever heard lukewarm impressions of that game

i kinda hated it!

i always think "l.a. noire is supposed to good, right?" before remembering that i'm primarily thinking about tim rogers raves throughout the years

The one risk with Tim Rogers is he likes a lot of stuff, including NASCAR t-shirts, Conan novels, direct to video martial arts movies…

LA Noire's game mechanic was annoying, you had 3 options when questioning a suspect, forget the terminology but essentially you could believe them, challenge them with proof of their dishonesty, or doubt them without proof. The distinction between the latter two options was close to utterly arbitrary and annoying as hell. The acting,storyline, and writing were all pretty good as far as games go

the one time I bought into tim rogers' contrarian hyping the game was pish

there were definitely things about la noire i liked, in spite of the bad parts, im curious to see him talk abt it for a long time bc he might cover some of those things

like if they removed all of the "game" from it and made it a drive around 1920s simulator i'd maybe love it even more?!

In the context of this TM video at least, he seemed to be championing the interrogation gameplay.

don't think he hypes up games he loves to convince other people to actually play them, usually
