God bless the president and the first lady. If you pray, please pray for their speedy and complete recovery — and for everyone infected, everywhere.

This virus is horrific and merciless — no one would wish its wrath on anyone.

We must get its spread under control. Enough.

Soooooo is Trump going to get a blood transfusion? And maybe tout it as a cure?

If I saw "no one would wish its wrath on anyone" on a true/false test, I would circle false.

If he shits at a press conference we’ll be seeing videos of maga fucks shaking turds out of their pants at target in response to being asked to wear masks

Just got up...stunning. Is this all based on Trump's tweet, or is there corroboration? I know that's awful to say, but how can you not think that?

clemenza, Friday, 2 October 2020 13:16 (three years ago) link

imagine Rachel Maddow praying for Trump after a long day at work hyperventilating about all the lives he's destroyed

what disingenuous horseshit

I definitely understand and sympathize with turning the other cheek and attempting to maintain basic human decency at a time when it's being rapidly siphoned out of us but Trump is where I personally draw the line with that mess. A disproportionate number of people have unnecessarily suffered and died over the past four years because of him. Let the 'vid chips fall where they may.

btw hold your ire for any newscaster or Dempol wishing him a "speedy recovery" or whatever, I know the man is a monster who absolutely deserves to die a painful death from this but come on you know they can't say anything else right now

besides Maddow has terminal Sorkinbrain what do you expect

Even if you limit your scope to the past several days: he apparently knew he'd been exposed as of Wednesday, chose to keep a lid on Hicks's diagnosis, and continued interacting with hundreds of people as if nothing was wrong. He deserves (and has practically begged for) any terrible thing that happens to him.

OrificeMax (Old Lunch), Friday, 2 October 2020 13:31 (three years ago) link

was watching a bit of CNN late last night, was pretty amusing to watch Anderson Cooper (clearly upset at being woken up) talk about 1) can we really report this as news if it's just coming from Trump and 2) if they really knew Hicks was positive on Wednesday it's unfathomable that Trump wasn't tested then and if he was positive it's nearly criminally negligent for him to have done a fundraiser

And see this is where, for me, it's a slightly different case than someone who is an anti-masker and went to a Trump rally and then later on goes to breathe near people.

I never thought "let them get what they deserve" about Trump anti-maskers. Because I know that they aren't just deciding for themselves based on their own risk tolerance - they're deciding for everyone they might breathe near. Effectively overriding those people's right to decide their own risk tolerance. It's fundamentally unfair and selfish.

But for a lot of people willing to get close to that loathsome man, they have chosen it and, deliberately, kept on choosing it. My concern for them, morally, is somewhat diminished.

I make an exception for those who don't have a choice. Minor children, domestic and service workers? They didn't get to buy in to a Trumpian conception of risk, but still he and his acolytes have been breathing on them for months.

apparently he and hicks got it during a big makeout party with the troops and cops

Trump called in to Hannity's show just a few hours before he announced his diagnosis on Twitter. Trump was asked about Hope Hicks and acknowledged he may have contracted covid. Then Trump said it could be because cops and troops want to hug and kiss him. https://t.co/D3SHw3PVDq pic.twitter.com/XwRjhH5ZSX

shout-out to his family (DJP), Friday, 2 October 2020 13:53 (three years ago) link

It's tricky because I am realizing that the degree to which I am a bad person is in a very precise and narrow band.

I am pretty much ok with Trump, Trump enablers, and Trump supporters suffering. Not least because they are responsible for immense amounts of suffering theirownselves. I don't necessarily want them to die, but I confess that part of the reason I want them to live is for them to experience consequences, up to and including awareness of their culpability.

What I do NOT want, and have never wanted, is for innocent folks around them to suffer and/or die.

My feelings about this have layers, like an onion. As for this -

it’s very, very hard when you are with people from the military or for law enforcement, and they come over to you, and they want to hug you, and they want to kiss you, because we really have done a good job for them

- oh god, do we need more "grab em by the pussy" discussion? No. I don't think so.

I’m just going to say what we’re all thinking.

Trump was fine until the debate, where they set up microphones & podiums for him.

Incubation period is usually 2-3 days.

He tests positive a couple of days after the debate.
