With the first image north end of the Pont Napoleon.

Or actually, from the Ile Simon that the Pont Napoleon passes over.
― Voulez-vous un coup d'etat, ce soir? (Sanpaku), Thursday, 1 October 2020 22:57 (three years ago) link
Oui exactement. Tower in the first pic just looks like a 70s block with a weird pitched roof added to match surrounding buildings.

Ah, blast, I missed that! I had even stripped the gps data from the exif. Edited now to remove the credit. Not my photo btw - apologies to the photographer for nabbing the image for entertainment purposes.

Thanks for the tip off and not revealing the answer ledge. I'm sure someone will get it in the more traditional manner before too long.

It's not Colombo and it's not in India. Does indeed look dope though and I hope to go there at some point.

Bamako?
― Alternative Ulsterbus, Saturday, 3 October 2020 02:05 (three years ago) link
Or maybe I'm just interested in the way the Niger river flows to the desert.
― Alternative Ulsterbus, Saturday, 3 October 2020 02:22 (three years ago) link
Not Bamako.
A couple of the guesses more so than the other, but you're all very far away thus far.
― brain (krakow), Saturday, 3 October 2020 10:25 (three years ago) link
building in the bottom right is the thing to look at here, I think. Architecture looks maybe Turkish, or central Asian, though the plants look more tropical.

Suspect its provincial Indonesia, but I've yet to find a match.

managua ?
― budo jeru, Saturday, 3 October 2020 23:55 (three years ago) link
Indonesia is very far away.
It's been a few days now, so I'll say that it's not Managua, but that is much closer than other guesses so far.

Paramaribo?

Ciudad BolÃvar?
― or something, Sunday, 4 October 2020 11:24 (three years ago) link
Actually looks quite like Georgetown, low buildings and lots of trees there.
― 好 now 烧烤 (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Sunday, 4 October 2020 11:27 (three years ago) link
It's remarkable how newer residential / small business architecture has converged to a single style throughout the middle income tropics. Before cinder blocks, rust painted galvanized steel roofing, and rooftop tanks for water, it would have been possible to narrow down to a region just from foreground structures.
― Sanpaku, Sunday, 4 October 2020 14:43 (three years ago) link
These newer ones are all good guesses, but not right. I'll try to find an additional non-revealing photo tonight.
― brain (krakow), Sunday, 4 October 2020 15:46 (three years ago) link

Yes! You've got it nate woolls, it is Cienfuegos.
I was meant to be going there next spring, but not now, for obvious reasons.
― brain (krakow), Monday, 5 October 2020 09:40 (three years ago) link
I just googled "grey building with red dome" and it was the 4th image result
― nate woolls, Monday, 5 October 2020 09:55 (three years ago) link
Ha. I guess it is striking, but that's impressive.
The second image is a view of Parque José Martà and I believe the "grey building with red dome" in question is the Palacio de Gobierno, the regional government headquarters.
