trump got very bad coverage from the debate, but the assumption should be that this is a temporary polling bounce. debate bounces don't tend to last, but let me know if it's still around in a week. (it might be! i'm saying don't get excited yet.)

It could just be projection on my part, but I get the feeling that everybody is just so sick of his shit to a historic degree. Like, I had a guitar lesson today, and my teacher confessed he spent half the day yesterday just walking around yelling "motherfucker!"

my brother in law's entire family, who live in North Carolina and have all been Trump supporters this entire time, are totally done with his ass and ready to vote Biden because they feel like they've been taken for chumps.

There is a new McConnell add which goes into how much money he has raised for drug addiction help in KY that ends with him smiling into some laptop looking pretty much like Mr. Burns. It's pretty much prime meme ready.

I believe that, among people who watched the debate, Trump made a notably horrible impression and almost certainly lost votes.

There was none of the transgressive "bad boy" quality to his theatrics the other night. He came off like a sneering, condescending bully.

Or even worse like a drunken, abusive father.

He totally pwned Biden's dead son, though. Like a real alpha male.

A new poll shows the Democrat up by 12 in Iowa.

trump's debate performance was bad, but the really the only consistent thing about his polling has been: when he is in the news a lot (saying things, not coverage of things he may have done in the past, e.g. russia, etc.) his polling goes down, and then slowly creeps back up as he is less in the news and swing voters forget how much they physically despise his person.

most people who aren't in his base hate him more when they see him! that explains 80% of polling movements over the past 3.5 years IMO.

Not sure if anyone posted this earlier. Typical alarmist headline, but most of the piece I found reassuring...sort of: there's a circularity at work that isn't.

So we could be headed for a vicious cycle where Trump increasingly gives up on trying to persuade or turn out voters and voters increasingly give up on him. But from a polling standpoint, this is one of the clearer elections to diagnose: Biden isn’t home-free, but he’s in a strong position. Nonetheless, the outlook for what’s actually in store for America has rarely been more cloudy.

I'm pleased to read about planning:

Some House seats might count a lot more than others in this chaotic campaign season.

Take Michigan’s 3rd Congressional District, where Joe Biden is expected to visit Friday. Though Biden’s trip to Grand Rapids will boost his bid to claim a state President Trump narrowly won four years ago, Hillary Scholten hopes the former vice president can help her win a Western Michigan district that Democrats have not held in 28 years.

And, if successful in elevating Scholten, Biden’s trip could serve as a backstop for his own presidential bid.

A Scholten victory would likely give Democrats eight of Michigan’s 14 seats in the House, helping House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s newly stated goal of blocking Trump from a last-gasp effort to remain in the White House if he does not win the November election.

It’s all very complicated, but there is a remote chance that neither Trump nor Biden will be a clear winner in the electoral college.
