if a weapon has lower attack but attacks twice, is it actually higher attack?

against an enemy with no defense, yes. vs high enough defense the single bigger hit might do more damage than two smaller ones

i dont remember exactly how defense works in this game but thats generally how it goes for multi-hit attacks in these games

post mordegon reveal hits a bit too close to home rn. interesting how this game and some zelda games seem to steal from each other. or maybe they share an ur text i don't know.

anyway, wandering around villages where people are all broken and depressed just not what I need in a bedtime story atm.

FF6 did it before OoT and this, i'm sure there's far older instances of it out there though that i'm blanking on

theres like an entire third act of the story hidden behind what looks like postgame content, if that's the point you're at now. i never finished it because i was ready to move on and it was too substantial

Anyone played the Switch version of this?

I've never played a JRPG but tempted by this as it's so pretty-looking.

Enjoyed the demo but the stop-start nature of the battles got annoying. I guess that's normal for RPGs, but I'm not really used to the playing style? Is that gonna be a problem, or do the fights get more fun and tactical as the game goes on?

the switch version is good. you can turn the battle speed up so they go more quickly, and you can avoid most random encounters if you want. the fights do get more tactical as the game goes on, but it's an extremely beginner-friendly rpg.

I've been playing on the Switch lite - enjoying it, though I've paused for a while.

You can also mostly get through the game without grinding (unless you count doing side quests as grinding, which I don't, esp in a game where 'questing' is kind of the point). I seem to recall my only need for grinding was to collect specific item drops for late-game crafting.

grinding has never been necessary in jrpgs, you were just bad at the combat when you were a kid

I, too, am in the taking-a-break phase of this game. It is very fun on its own and interesting as one of the proto-BoTWs out there.

Definitive Edition currently $20 for PS4 at Best Buy. I should just stop waiting for the Switch version to go down further and pull the trigger...

Oh, they snuck the Definitive Edition out onto other consoles at the end of 2020!

Been dutifully plugging away at the Switch version for several weeks now. Not totally maxed out gear wise but close enough. Just got the most powerful great sword in the game last night. Only a few more things I want to wrap up before taking the final boss. I've thoroughly enjoyed it, scratched an old school kinda itch I didn't know I had. Gonna be a little bittersweet finally putting this thing to rest. Spent a damn long time with it all told.

Different strokes, but I played this on the Draconian mode with stronger monsters. Think the difficulty level was just right with that on.

when you have a party of nine people, and then you kill one of those monsters that you can ride on, and it just shows your main character riding the monster, do you think that represents each member of your party riding on their own monster, or all nine of you sitting on one monster together?

this is a good game but it could use a wider range of music
