If there’s enough interest I might be able to run The Cramps poll. Halloween season seems like a good fit for them.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 15 October 2020 14:20 (three years ago) link

I would vote in a Cramps poll. Also, since I’m here, Fugazi and a comprehensive NWA + related solo albums polls I would participate in (if they haven’t already been done, I hope?).

rattle, Thursday, 15 October 2020 14:40 (three years ago) link

I'd definitely submit a Cramps ballot!

rattle: seems Fugazi and NWA+ haven't been done and are not yet in the "to do" list in the first post. How would you feel about doing the numbers for those? :)

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Thursday, 15 October 2020 15:28 (three years ago) link

i would also submit a cramps ballot. my partner is a cramps megafan, while i am only a strongfan, so i'd like an opportunity to up my cramps game!

Nag! that’s a “neg” from me. Voting and commenting on is far as I’m willing to go....2nd thought, and, yeah: I won’t.

rattle, Thursday, 15 October 2020 16:42 (three years ago) link

N.W.A and related would be timely this week too, but Cramps at Halloween is a great idea.

I'll be thrilled when there's a generalist "best of 2010's" thread. Maybe it'd be better a year or two from now, though, to better let that decade settle in.

Rod Steel (musicfanatic), Wednesday, 21 October 2020 22:56 (three years ago) link

someone (can't remember who) had said they'd run it around July this year but that fell through obviously

Nick Cave/Bad Seeds/Birthday Party/et al - charlie h

Is charlie h still about? I wouldn't mind such an incentive to absorb more his 21st century material...

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Sunday, 8 November 2020 03:58 (three years ago) link

I'm about. I'm happy to do this one finally, but would prefer to kick off the voting in about a week's time. anyone keen to jump in before then?

charlie rex, Thursday, 12 November 2020 11:59 (three years ago) link

nick cave poll sounds good

ufo, Thursday, 12 November 2020 12:43 (three years ago) link

Cool! With several hundred tracks under consideration I could probably use a bonus week of thinking time anyway!

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Thursday, 12 November 2020 13:15 (three years ago) link

sweet. I'll get this started by around the 23rd of this month.

charlie rex, Sunday, 15 November 2020 02:43 (three years ago) link

I’m in to help with the images, rollout, whatever I can help with for the decade poll

✖✖✖ (Moka), Saturday, 21 November 2020 18:33 (three years ago) link

nice, i'm very excited for the decade poll! when is it planned for?

ufo, Saturday, 21 November 2020 23:56 (three years ago) link

Noms usually kick off mid-December.

MF DOOM?

Chris L, Sunday, 3 January 2021 12:01 (three years ago) link

Yes! re MF DOOM. Do it!

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Monday, 4 January 2021 03:12 (three years ago) link

maybe wait til the year-end shenanigans are thru, but yes co-sign DOOM

shabbat bloody shabbat (voodoo chili), Monday, 4 January 2021 15:20 (three years ago) link

I could do the DOOM one if a poll runner is needed (yes, after year end shenanigans). I haven't run one before.

maf you one two (maffew12), Sunday, 10 January 2021 16:05 (three years ago) link

Ok so after year end stuff. we're gonna have the MF DOOM one. then can we run the grunge poll or are we still trying to go in order with the list that was posted a year ago in this thread?

a nice controlled drift (Spottie), Friday, 15 January 2021 21:11 (three years ago) link

I think its better to go with the order as it was as people have waited years, but obviously some may want to be bumped down the list as well.

Oor Neechy, Friday, 15 January 2021 21:25 (three years ago) link

I like the idea of the grunge poll coming right after hair metal/hard rock poll though. Maybe we could arrange that?

Oor Neechy, Friday, 15 January 2021 21:26 (three years ago) link

no rush on my part if I'm doing DOOM

maf you one two (maffew12), Friday, 15 January 2021 21:28 (three years ago) link

ILM isn’t so busy that we couldn’t do multiple polls at a time, no?

All cars are bad (Euler), Friday, 15 January 2021 21:30 (three years ago) link

i think anything is open. is bee ok around to update the list? a lot of the users listed to run these arent here anymore

a nice controlled drift (Spottie), Friday, 15 January 2021 21:32 (three years ago) link

a bifurcated process, interesting

Karl Malone, Friday, 15 January 2021 21:42 (three years ago) link

Im on that list under different usernames so it might be the same for others

Oor Neechy, Friday, 15 January 2021 22:44 (three years ago) link

There are almost certainly further folks quietly observing, keen to eventually run things they suggested in, like, 2014. eg. the Nick Cave poll a few weeks ago!

There is no real order specified up top any more. I mean, I ran two in 2020 that were on the list for a matter of months, if that. BUT they were during periods where many weeks had passed without anyone else declaring a wish to proceed.

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Friday, 15 January 2021 23:58 (three years ago) link

this board is a living animal that keeps evolving. DOOM could be next because of the circumstances. this thread sorts of has a handle on the timing, just say you want to run a poll and if no one objects then its a go. i don't like the idea of more than one at a time but i'm only one person. anyways, this is all mute until after the year end polls, this will start up again after that.

i will post an updated list in a few weeks.

Bee OK, Saturday, 16 January 2021 06:08 (three years ago) link

I'm still down to do the no wave poll even though a bunch of stuff has skipped ahead ... I just figured someone would contact me or something and let me know it was my turn ... nbd

sarahell, Saturday, 16 January 2021 06:57 (three years ago) link

DOOM should be asap imo

Maybe it's time to reinstate a running order extending several polls ahead. Might help in getting long-delayed polls firmly back on the agenda AND reduce stagnant periods, which have sometimes been quite protracted recently.

If I was in charge I'd actually just allocate a calendar month for each poll. Possibly starting March 1st, seeing as EOY polls seem to extend through much of Feb. And then a new poll from the 1st of each month. Easy. And no guesswork or waiting around. If a poll-runner was contemplating a weirdly bloated voting period or rollout, they'd know to expect the potential* distraction of the next month's poll, which would start regardless. :)

*very few are interested in every single poll, after all.

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Saturday, 16 January 2021 09:15 (three years ago) link

so you are saying it should read like this?

March: Hard Rock/Hair Metal - gr8080

if gr8080 is still around then he can say i'll do it or ask someone to take his place in running it?

April: Stephin Merritt - Gukbe

i would love another Gukbe poll

Bee OK, Sunday, 17 January 2021 01:26 (three years ago) link

Kinda. You'd presumably still need to negotiate who goes into given slots. I'm just wondering out loud whether an actual date rather than "whenever X and Y has finished" might improve turnaround and reduce stagnant periods.

It sometimes feels like the next poll to go ahead has been dictated a little too much by whoever happens to visit this thread in quiet periods. I mean, I've benefited from this myself, but I happily concede that I probably shouldn't have had the opportunity to run 4 polls in 2 years, typically on short notice, while sarahell and charlie rex (for example) have been waiting far, far longer. And seemingly mainly because I've been attentive to this thread when things have stagnated!

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Sunday, 17 January 2021 02:07 (three years ago) link

the problem has been that a lot of the people who signed up years ago haven't been around so 'everyone just waits their turn' stopped working years ago leading to the current system of people just run one when there's a gap and they want to do it

ufo, Sunday, 17 January 2021 03:13 (three years ago) link

Some names are surely inactive. But there are plenty of recent signs that others really *have* been waiting patiently. The aforementioned No Wave poll was suggested in 2014. Oor Neechy mentions being on the list under multiple aliases. And the last two 2020 single-artist polls had been on the list for absolutely ages: Nick Cave since '14, The Cramps since '16.

Looking back to the original thread it's striking how tight the operation was in the early days. Amazing.
